This is a very old post, but if you're still monitoring the thread, here's what I know.

What I found says Jacob Lafayette Brumit married Mary Ann Emerson, b 12/07/1857 in Saline, MO, on 10/26/1878. I'm descended from Jacob's sister, Ann Elizabeth Brumit who married George Washington Carr, so I haven't done any research on your line, but there are a lot of Brumits in Saline Co, MO.

Lynn Range Wells

Hi Fred,
I know it's been ages since you posted this, but maybe you're still reading the posts? David Samuel Brumit was my great grandfather (through Bertha Brumit m James Bennett, daughter Anna m Nicholas Corby). I also have photos of David Samuel that I'm happy to share with anyone, I would love to see the one you have and get a copy of it and the military records. I've met you when we were kids and my parents came to TN to visit Mom's parents and family.

Hi Martha! I will email you but in case I do not have an updated email address - I have not been keeping up with ANYONE!!! I am so bad. I am BACK on the genealogy kick. It comes and goes but it is my MOST FAVORITE thing in the world. I will let you know what I find and you can tell your BFF. I may have located his son but have not heard anything yet but don't tell Mimmaw because if nothing comes from it she would have been suspenseful about nothing. I will send you what I found out but so far no luck! Love ya! I will go out on a limb and say I love Doyle too. Tell him. I have been reading about Frank Tapley and Uncle Nig, so, you know, they were characters but no surprises - I have heard all the stories.

I know this thread is quite old, but I sure would like to have a copy of that photo and draft exemption if that is still possible. I am a direct decendant of David Brumit whose name I share. I just started researching the surname and am enjoying the information I have already. I welcome more as it is hard to get more since my family moved away from East Tennessee 20 years ago. Thanks, hope someone is still out there listening.
dbbrumit@earthlink.net

I am also a descendant of David Brumit & Anna N. Moreland. Their son, Phillip, is my 3rd great grandfather. Phillip married Nancy Scott-May 19, 1850 in Washington Co.,TN. Their son, David E. married Tulva Letitia Francis-April 3, 1872, also in Washington Co. Their son, Charles H. married Lorena Ellis-May 24, 1894 in Carter Co.,TN. Their son, Percy Brumit married Anna Mae Crowe-1940 in Carter Co., TN. And finally their son, David Charles, is my father. I haven't been researching long, but sites like this have helped me so much. If anyone has additional info, particularly David's father, Samuel Brumit's parents. I have gathered quite a bit of info if any one is looking.
Thanks!
Amy

There are several of the Brumits bured at Boones Creek Baptist Church. David Brumit lived in Flourville which is where my grandmother was raised.

My grandmother and her sister lived together their whole life. They were Cora Deakins and Addie Brumit. I remember thern talking about Elbert Brumit. they were the daughters of David Brumit. they told a few tales about the Brumits and how they got to America. They were French protestants and escaped from France during the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre when Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes. they fled to Holland, a Protestant nation and were there for a wile. They then came by ship to Virginia. There was a crate they used for the baby on the ship and I still have a piece of it. How the Brumit's got their name: In medieval France, people did not normally have last names and to be given one by the king was an honor. What they did to deserve the last name is lost to history. When the king gave someone a last name he would sometimes make a little joke out of it. According to my grandmother, Brumits have always been tall and thin (she was over 6') and so the king called them little broom or Brumette.

I am also a descendant of David Brumit, and I live in Bluff City, TN. My grandmother's name was Nancy Elizabeth Brumit daughter of Elbert "gun" Brumit and Nancy Ellen France/Francis. I found some info that Samuel Brumits father was Thomas Brumit, grandfather William Brumit, and Great grandfather John Brumit. William and John were born in Brittainy, France. Can you shed any light on this? Also, the name Brumit at one time was spelled Brummett.

I do not know much about David Brumit, but all of my searches for the 'Brummett's lead me back to Washington County around 1800.. THe links I have been following are:
Myself: b 1954 >
Clyde Brummett 1925 Knoxville >
Clarence Brummett 1906 Knoxville >
Tempie Brummett 1880 +/- Knoxville >
Samuel Brummett 1853 Washington Cty >
Larkin Brummett 1825 Washington Cty

But the question is, what is Larkin's parentage? It is a somewhat unusual name... just looking for 'the' link..
Thanks
RCB

I posted my message for an elderly friend that is looking for her brother, not necessarily doing genealogy. I have forwarded your info to her, but she doesn't really know the history. Think you are in the right vicinity though as that part of Texas is close to Dallas where she and siblings were put into orphanages.
good luck,
gayle

This is my family on my mother's side. The best source that I have come across is a professional genealogist and also a family member: Joeseph Brumit of Arizona. You can find his postings everywhere, particulary at genforum.
