Hello. I have been trying to find more on William C. Brumley. He was in Saline Kansas in the 1920 census, born abt 1879, possibly Illinois.
He was married to Viola C. Allen with children Everett Brumley, Charles Edward Brumley, and Mary Geneva Brumley.
I believe he married a Hodges, after Viola died sometime in the 1930's. Viola's father was James Allen born abt 1848 in Missouri and Telitha. Telitha was also married to Thomas E. Hodges.
Any help would be appreciated!

Sam Gibbs

We have family buried in Story, Arkansas. Daddy is Lawrence Roy Brumley, JR. son of Lawrence Roy Brumley, SR. and Lottie Hutchison. Hutchison's were from DeQueen, Arkansas. Daddy will be 82 on September 21st. Lottie died in Orange Co. California when Daddy was 3. His father remarried Madge Outler, I believe. They had 4 children: Daniel, Mary,Irma, and Frank. They lived in Lake Village, Arkansas. Later they lived in Hot Springs.

The William Brumley convicted in Tn you write about is not the same person referred to by adarevans. Our ancestor was at Levenworth around 1900 or shortly thereafter for killing a cow in Indian Territory, Oklahoma to feed his family shortly after his wife died of breast cancer. He was caring for the children and had been unable to work as much (he was a blacksmith). After he went to prison the children were "farmed out" to relatives. Some of the details about that I'd prefer to put in a private email. It involves some of the family secret. Because the individuals involved are all deceased I now feel I can tell a limited part of the story, but will do so privately.
While in prison Wm Brumley became acquainted with John B. Craig, who was also convicted of a crime committed in Indian Territory (note: John Craig's crime was more serious than cattle rustling). After prison, John Craig married Wm Brumley's daughter Catherine.
I obtained copies of the mug shots of both William Brumley and John Craig. I also have copies of their prison records, lists of correspondents while incarcerated, and copies of prison medical exam reports. These records can be obtained through the National Archives. I'd offer to send you a copy but right now I have everything packed away and can't get to things easily.
I'll check back on the boards soon to reply to any inquiries.
Carolyn

I had no idea about the treason charge. I am wondering the same about Austin and Augustine being the same person. How do I get a hold of the land grants?

I know that Mary was the administrator of his estate and that she had married John. I have a copies of the court records dating May 1796 and a couple of other for Mary dated 1815 but they are hard to read but the involve son David. I wish I could find a marriage record for Augustine and Mary.

Re: Brumley's of Marion Co., Tn.

The Brumley's first moved to Marion Co, TN in about 1823. Earliest land records show land grants to William Brumley and Barshaba Brumley. Her land grant mentioned John Brumley (their father), but I didn't find any land records for him. He probably died before filing at the courthouse. In addition to William and Barshaba and William's children, John's wife's (Mary) son, Larken by a prior marriage to Augustine Brumley moved to Marion County at the same time. When William and Barshaba and Willis moved to Hardin Co. TN, Larkin remained in Marion Co. His son was Isaac. I believe there is a land record for Isaac or his descendent.
There were other Brumley's that resided in Marion Co later (after Civil War), but I don't believe they are related unless they are descendents of Larkin Brumley.

Hope this helps.

I thought he was in Battle of Kings Mountain, but found that he was tried for Treason in Botetourt County, VA in 1780. Given probation and moved to Greene Co, TN.

I found a mention of Thomas Brumley, Austin Brumley, and Richardson Austin in same sentence in Chaukley's. I wonder if Austin Brumley is NOT Augustine Brumley. They would have been about the same age, though.

Augustine got 3 land grants after the Rev War in Greene Co. TN. After his death in 1796, his widow (Mary) married his brother?cousin John Brumley. I traced her til around 1820. Nothing after that. I think she died in Marion Co, TN.

I just read your note.

W. Perryman married James F. Brumley. He was born in Hunt Co, TX 16 Jul 1855, died 2 Jan 1902 Johnston Co, OK. He was the son of William Marion Brumley and Sarah Kirby (first wife of WMBrumley). I don't have any info on W. Perryman. William Marion Brumley was the younger brother of John Brumley who settled in Montague County, TX in early 1850's. John was murdered during the Civil War. His family left after the war and migrated to Erath Co and Hunt Co.

I don't have any info on H.A. Perryman, but James Alexander Perryman of Lamar Co (Paris) married Amanda Brumley in 1870. She was the sister of my ggrandfather. He died in 1879 of Flux. His father born in Tenn.; mother born in Miss. I don't have their names.

Robert BRUMLEY King & Queen VA 1787-1859 (CORRECTION)

Unfortunately once entered into the system, it seems impossible to retract.
In error I once believed this Robert Brumley (1787-1859)son of (John Brumley who d.c.1805 and was taxed on land 8 m NW of K&Q CH.) to be the father of Joseph Temple Brownley, my gggf.
Due to the help of Anne Roach Baker, I discovered the early tax records of K&Q, which led me to a much older Robert Brumley b. bef 1765(1810 census)possibly a brother of John(they lived 1 mile apart).
Robert Brumley died c. 1813(Tax records 1791-1813 on 225 acres 7m NW of K&Q Court House on Axel swamp)), estate in 1833-34 (50 acres)to Harriet Brumley, (b.Oct 30,1799; 2nd w/o Capt. Robert Courtney) & 160 acres (1834 tax record) to her 1/2 brother Joseph Brownley. Joseph's middle name was either Temple or his mother was a Temple, his initial also may have been W. As heirs at law, Harriet's estate (she d.12 Feb 1863)was divided; 1/2 to her 1/2 brother Joseph, and the rest to the 6 children of her deceased 1/2 sister Martha w/o Lewis Jeffries. (Harriet's 110 acres was sold to B.H.Walker and the 16 slaves divided -Chancery records.) With the help of Anne Baker and Vicki Lawrence who is searching the Courtney line I have corrected my files.
Robert Brumley (bef.1765-c.1813) was married at least twice, and in 1810 his household included:
Robert Brumley male 45+(b. bef 1765)
female 26-45 (second wife? bc.1765-1784)
(mother of Martha & possibly Joseph b.June 24,1811)
>?female 16-26 (b.1784-1796)
>?male 10-15 (b.1795-1800)
>?female 10-15(b. 1795-1800)Harriet? b, Oct 30, 1799
?female 0-10 Harriet or child who died young?
female 0-10 (Martha,2 yrs b. 1808
Harriet b. 1799 turned 11 in Oct 1810*
Joseph unborn yet(b.
My grandfather, son of Fatima and William Brumley, also alluded to a horrific family secret and would not talk about it. Also, he had no contact with any of his siblings or extended family. If anyone can give me hints as to what this horrible secret might have been, I'd appreciate it. e-mail me at adarevans@live.com.
this is in reply to your query of Nancy Brumley. She was my husbands great grandmother. She was the mother of my husbands grandfather Harrison Lawson. She died when he was very young and the children was farmed out. I do think there were more than just four children. There were two other wives. I would love to share info and if you have any photos I would love to see copy and would gladly pay for any copies. I have just started this search for my sons since their grandmother Cleo Lawson Crawford just died.

Cindy

Grace, Elijah was my Grand Uncle and I've been working on the Brumley family geneaology. He has two daughters who are still alive whom I need to talk to to update my information. I'm sure they will know his middle name. Also, according to my recolection and records, he died in Feb. 1961 while I was in Jr. High School. I used to go to their house frequently in Greeley, which is also my home town. William Pilot was my Grand Father. Elijah was married to Belva L. Florance of Greeley.

I've found a Patterson Brumley who married Lucinda Denny (b.03/15/1822) on the Stidham Family Tree http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d....

It appears that his father-in-law, John M. Denny, died in Lawrence County, Indiana and was buried in Fayetteville, Indiana.

This is probably the same person. Any more information on the Patterson Brumley is much appreciated.

My grandfather, Robert Ira Brumley (1874-1939, has a half-sister, Martha S. Brumley (1854-1930)listed on the Stidham Family Tree.

I'd like to see if Patterson Brumley connects more closely to my grandfather on the Brumley side. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you---we have been dodging a bit of tropical weather these last few weeks. I live about 1500 miles from Greeley. Greeley was my Dad's hometown. I'm sorry I do not have any wedding announcement. I mostly have census records on the Brumley's, though I do have some funeral home notices for Dad's grandmother, Daisy Bell Martin Brumley. I love collecting photographs. If you have any to share that would be great. Haven't found Elijah's middle name yet either. Will keep looking. Take care. Yours, Debra, great granddaughter of Jesse Aaron Brumley.

Please email me at my account gratron@yahoo.com; I am about to go through the Jones family pictures so will email you some. Are you interested in Elijah's lateral family such as half brothers? Do you know any Brumley relatives who met Elijah and Nannie or are they all deceased? Nannie died in 1951 and Lige in 1954 so it would have to be a pretty old person. Thanks, Grace

I am interested in any information you might have regarding Elijah Jones who married Nancy Elizabeth; he is a brickwall in my research. Did you or any of your relatives "write him down" or put any remarks in letters? Elijah was living in CA when he died but came to Greeley to work on a dam in about 1911, per the historical society. Thanks Grace
