I've been researching for a Philip Brian/O'Bryan, which is found spelled many different ways. The oldest research found on this family, states that Mathias Bryan, Brian, O'Bryan, wasthe son of Philip. My Philip received a RevolutionaryLand Grant in 1791 for services in the MD line and ends up in Nelson Co., KY by 1799. I wonder if this could be my people?????

Thanks,

N Brunn arriving 1896 at 30 is not my grandfather.
Clifton Hill is him but I didn't know his actual address there. He was living with the Svendsen family/person in Clifton Hill apparently at some time after his wifes death or maybe when he came back to Melbourne in the 1950's. He lived in Renmark, South Australia in the 1950's but as a squatter on the Murray River.
He was Captain of the Ketch Gertrude (which the family has a painting of) and this was wrecked and sunk in Port Phillip Bay, and also Captain of the Ketchs Defender and Woolamai.
3 Kilby Terrace is correct although I did not know he was a sailmaker this early or that he was there in 1924. He and his wife Julie Etta nee Martin b1891 d1923 were living with her parents Andrew and Susan Martin during some of their marriage between 4.8.1914 and her death on 2.2.1923.
At the time of her death they were at 60 Bright St, South Yarra
It is possible it was not Galveston as his only surviving daughter is in her 90's and knows very little of him as he put all his children in an orphange when they were all under 5 and had only limited contact with them in their adult life up till his death in 1975 in Melbourne. My Mother told me he had a family also in Texas but little else did she know. Perhaps it could be another city but it would have to have a port. Are there any other docks in Texas?
His ship arrived in Sydney 21.11.1908 from America (no city mentioned on his naturalisation papers.
Sven arrived in Melbourne on the Peregrine 10.12.1909 from Denmark but I have not located this ship in any records on line.
Sven is his brother and he died in 1950 in Melbourne.
As an aside, although they went by the name Brunn his legal Danish name (which I have only just learnt) is Svendsen "Brunn" being tacked on around 1870 or so. However, all their papers are under the name Brunn/Brun in Australia. I do not know when or where Niels passed his Master Mariner certificate. He apparently sailed the world and I have since learnt he may have had another family in Tahiti. (Lived the sailors life to the full). After Julietta's death he again had another family in Melbourne but they did not marry as far as we know. We think her name was Pritchard and they had 3 children - this according to my Mother who met them when she was a young woman of about 18-21.
His mothers name was Mette Henrickson/Henrikson and his father was Soren Christian Svendsen "Brunn".
Other than the above I know only of his family in Denmark.
You have already given me some information I did not have so thank you and hope maybe you can find out some more. Very much appreciated
The name Niels or Niel Brun/n is fairly common, as are Nils Brun/n and Neil Brun/n. I found a lot of names that might fit, but none are exact matches to the information you have provided.

In 1896, there is an N Brunn arriving in Sydney, Australia, as an unassisted immigrant passenger, from a port called Santos. He was aboard the ship Hertha, which originated in Skelskor, Denmark. He was age 30 in 1896.

I found a Neil Christian Brunn in the Australian registered voter rolls, in Batman, Clifton Hill, Australia in 1931, living on 6th Street, registered as a seaman.

In 1914, what may be the same person is in Melbourne Ports, Victoria, and the listing states: ketch 'Gertrude' (this is the ship), Little Dock, seaman. Next listing in the book is for a Sven Brunn, also a seaman, living on King Street.

In 1919 there is a listing for what appears to be the same person, in Melbourne Ports, Victoria, at 3 Kilby Terrace, but here he is listed as a sailmaker, no ship name listed. He is at this same address in 1924.

Nothing for a Niels Christian Brunn or similar in Texas, in the USA, that seems to fit.

Still looking for Litana or Sitana in the ship lists I have access to.

Hi, I don't know if you still do look-ups and not sure if you can help. My grandfather Niels Christian Brunn, (Master Mariner) apparently had a woman and children (not sure if married or not) in Galveston Texas pre Nov 1908. She could have been Mexican. He was born in Skagen Denmark 6.3.1883. He arrived in Sydney, Australia in November, 1908 from America according to Naturalisation document - cannot identify ship name but could be any variation on Litana i.e. Sitana, etc. He would have worked on ships in Galveston. Appreciate any help offered. Thankyou, Linda

Re: Mary Brunn

Found a Mary McCollum, age 72, listed as the wife of Madison McCollum, age 68 (hard to read in original record and so is birthdate itself) in the Lincoln Cty, Minnesota census for 1900. There is also a John McCollum and family, residing next door to them.

Found several Jasper McCollums but no sign of her linked to him and the ages and locations seemed off to me.

Just a note: if Mary was truly a native American, in the earlier census records she may either not be listed (sometimes men only were listed, or landowners only pre-1870 and 1880) and then sometimes, any persons of color, or Indians, or "foreigners or aliens" were indicated not by name, but by a number showing how many persons of this type were residing in the home. They could not vote or own land, and therefore may not have been represented in the earliest records.

Do you know her tribal affiliation or any other info on her? She may not be related to Sacajawea but may in fact be Native American and if you know any other info that could help ID her that would help me a lot.

This Mary is listed as a white female in the census and was apparently born in Tennessee.

Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I don't think this is the person I'm looking for. First, the birthdate/age is wrong. I'm certain of her birthdate. Second, I've since discovered that the spelling of the last name is Brumm, not Brunn. Again, thanks so much for responding.

Bob Sherwood
