Are you still looking? I have just begun this search and my great-Grandparents were Carl (Calogero) and Carmela Bruno. Their daughter, Marina, was my grandmother on my mother's side.

I would love to find out more about them. They were married in Lousiana and had one child there and then moved to Chicago and had the rest. Carmela's maiden name was Bacaluca.

Linda Davis

I am sorry, I have not been here for a while. My mother told me a few years ago that my grandfather's name (on my father's side) was Baptiste Bruno. He was married to a Hettis (sp) Baptiste. My grandfather spoke french and believed in Voodo. I recall that from when I was a child. I am wondering if he was from Haiti. His english was not good at all. I know we are related to some Browns on that side of the family, but I don't know of any names. My father's name is Wallace, he has two sisters, Ella Bruno and Alice Bruno and I do not recall his brother's name. Ella had a son, Joseph Bruno and Alice's daughter's name is Patricia. They all lived in Lafayette, La.

There was a brother named Charles, but I'm not sure where he ended up. were to learn that your Charles was Black, I could help you out, though...

Genealogy is certainly one of the most interesting ventures, I do believe.

thanks again,
Juanita

Dear Juanita... I am Nancy Bruno from California... I wrote to you a few days ago and just found your reply.... I need to say this to you .... if you have regrets of my finding out that an Uncle of mine had done such a thing please don't feel badly.... That was long ago and I did not know him. The reason I am writing to you again is this.... After having given my memory awhile to adjust, I DO remember that when my Uncle Charley (Charles Bruno) came from Albuquerquein about 1948 to live with my Father and my Sisters and I in California (My Mother had died in 1946) I actually do remember him saying once that his Brother had killed his wife..... My Uncle Charley often told tall tales and I guess I didn't really put any stock in what he had said. I was about 13 at the time. Unless you are positive that the William you know of was black.... I feel quite certain that Charley was speaking the truth. The reason I had written to you was that I wanted to maybe help you to find out what had happened to Santos's children.... I am sure this must still be painful for the Daughter of Mary who want's to get some answers. I'm pretty good at "detective work".... I think if it were me, I would either go through the Mormon's (the Church of Latter Day Saints) because I am told that they have records on just about EVERYOE or I would contact the Courthouse in Denver and ask them how to go about getting information from the Archives to see if State officials don't have a record of where those children were placed. Again, I say, I am not upset over that information, I only feel badly for the people whose lives were effected by it. Let me know if you want my help. My best to you....... Nan

ah, well...I think you might have contacted me but I've been very busy! So here's how it goes: My William Bruno is not related to Dominic and Teresa. Because of ...???... the family always said he was Italian, and he's even listed as Italian in one census. But he wasn't. His father was Black and his mother Mexican. He married Santos Romero (daughter of Rafael Romero and Maria Aragon). I've taken a totally different turn with this family. Now I'm looking for any Black Bruno families in New Mexico and Southern Colorado.

I know they married into the Beckham family, and I have a few prison mugshots (yes, a few...). I found my William's grave in Canon City, and I connected with some very old family members. Thanks for your interest, though. I wish I had found more to pass on to you!

Juanita

Dear Juanita... I have read the two responses you have received in your search for information about the Bruno family... namely, William. I can not make any sense out of what the other two responses said but.... If you are sure of the information that: Dominic and Teresa Bruno were the parents of William, John, Lawrence, Charles, Andrew, Johanna and lastly, Louis Bruno.... then I am a relative of that family.. DEFINATELY. If you have changed hour course and found that the above mentioned family is not the one you were looking for... well then... I guess I can't help. I am Nancy Bruno (my Maiden name) ... daughter of Andrew Bruno, Niece of Charles, Louis, Johanna... etc etc etc. If you want to talk with me, I'd be delighted. If, in fact, we are talking about the same BRUNO clan, then on behalf of our family, let me apologize for such a tragedy that my Uncle William (whom I never met) brought down upon you.I have never heard that story before. Maybe we might be able to dig deeper and get more information about this if we put our heads together..... Please respond, I saw your message because I am also looking for more information on the Immigration of Dominic (or Dominick) and Teresa (or Theresa) I can not be sure which spellings are correct. I have lived in California all of my life and now live in La Mirada, CAlifornia. my email address is oldfremontian@aol.com .... sincerely hope to hear from you.
Hi, I have no certain dob for the Anthony I am searching for, all I know is he was living in Manhattan with my grandmother and they had a daughter Anita, around 1918. They split after that, I am presuming, as grandmother then married another man. I am searching out this particular Bruno for his daughter Anita but I have so little info. There is a story that he was a limo driver (listed that in the 1920 census) for a wealthy family. Can't think, don't have it right here.

Re: looking for manifest ship list - Nicolo BRUNO 1904

I just did a search here on Ancestry.com for Nicolò Bruno, and found the ship manifest with his arrival on 19 Oct 1904 (they left via Naples on the ship SS Patria). He was 12 years old, and traveled with his Uncle, age 32. The handwriting is difficult for me to decipher, but the Uncle's first name is Dionisio and the last name is either Scoutrisco, Scoutricio, or something close to that. The Uncle is listed on line 16, and Nicolò is listed on line 19.

Dionisio's destination was his cousin's, but I cannot decipher the cousin's name. Nicolò's destination is to his father, Francesco Paolo Bruno.

Interestingly, on line 26 is Donato Bruno, age 41, occupation is shown as shoemaker. He is from Trapani, and his destination is to his brother - Francesco Paolo Bruno.

If you have an Ancestry membership that includes Immigration records, you can see the manifest:
http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbi...

Re: Name change

My maiden name is Bruno. My paternal grandfather was always known to me as Joseph, yet he was born in Italy where his name was really Giuseppe. I knew exactly what day he arrived in the US, but I had just about given up hope of ever finding his name on a ship's manifest... and then I found it -- as Giuseppe Bruni. I naturally assumed (and you know what they say about that!) that someone must have misunderstood him when he said his name... But, it didn't take long after that to find out that his name at birth in Italy was Giuseppe Bruni. He changed it to Bruno sometime within three years of arriving here, and it was made official when he was naturalized. I now have a copy of his birth record from Italy, as well as a copy of his naturalization papers.

So, try checking Bruni!

No, it seems that our family trees are not the same. My grandfather was born Giuseppe Bruni in Villa Santo Stefano, Italy, and came to the US in 1909 at the age of 17. He came straight to Wilkes-Barre, PA. He changed his last name from Bruni to Bruno by the time he married my grandmother, Theresa Melf, in 1912, and when he was naturalized his last name was formally, officially, changed to Bruno. The Carmella in my family tree was Theresa Melf's mother - Carmella Angarole.

Bruno, Luchetta, Cianco, Cribari--looking for the missing link

I have lots of names but I am missing 2 links. I believe my great grandmother was Mary Bruno probably born sometime in the 1830's. She married a Luchetta. They had a son Domenico born 1855) who was my grandfather. My grandfather came to the US with his cousin Domenico Bruno born 1870.

Missing link 1.....who were Mary Bruno's siblings and parents? I know that Domenico Bruno traveled back and forth from Italy and Brazil and New Orleans and have come up with names such as Anthony Bruno (1936) lived in PA., Nicolo Bruno (1841), Luigi Bruno (1837). Does anyone know how any of these are related to Mary Bruno who married Luchetta? Are the above listed Brunos siblings? I know there is a relation to Anthony somehow...just not sure if they were siblings or not. The Domenico Bruno that came over with my grandfather once would have been a son of Mary's brother. Looking for who that is.

Missing link 2.....Which Luchetta did Mary Bruno marry? They had my grandfather Domenico but I am sure he had siblings. I am lead to believe that there may be a connection between Alexander (Alehandro) Luchetta (1856), Maria Luchetta (married to Fransesco Cianco), Salvatore (went to Colorado had son Gabriel), Pasquale, Guiseppe, and Gaetano. Does anyone know if any of the above are siblings or how they are related? Most of these were born around the same time as my grandfather, a coincidence? maybe. Alexanders's father is Paulo Luchetta....does anyone know who Paulo married? Was it Mary Bruno?

Any insight into these questions or suppositions would be greatly appreciated. I have a huge tree, but can't quite link it....all these people above have surnames in my family too...there has to be a link.

I am also looking for information on my grandmother Filomena Cribari (1881). Some of her family went to California and others I believe, Canada ( some Italy, of course). I am looking for her siblings and parents.

All these families probably originated around the same towns...Bucita, San Fili...

hi. i'm not sure if you are still looking for information about your great uncle, but i can tell you that my dad, Nick Bruno, is always being mistaken for a relative of a Nicolo Bruno in Monroe, LA. We lived there for three years and often heard about this shoe shop. We live in Hammond, LA now and in fact, dad had been asked about his kin to this man just the other day. We supposedly aren't related to this man, but my great- grandfather was Nicola Bruno who came over in the early 1900s directly from Palermo and stayed in New Orleans until he married his wife, who was also a Bruno, but a different family. I will be going on a school trip this june to italy and i would love to know if i still have family in that part of the world. My grand-father, Steve, son of Nicola, sent over his wife, Annie's, wedding dress to one of their cousins after they were married, but never got it back. if that rings a bell with anyone, please let me know.

Your uncle is on the Ellis Island manifest for the ship Attivita arrival on March 28 1904 but you wont find him by name because for some reason he not in thier data bank correctly.
Instead look for this name-Bruno,Nito Giuseppe and pull up the manifest.
His name is on the actual manifest but not on the text version. It follows Nitos name. Also he is 17 at the time but it doesnt say trapani-get a map of sicily and check the towns that surround-dont use a genealogy site to look at the map-get a map that show ALL the small towns within the area that is dated for the time your relative was there. You mwould be surprised at the changes you find in the 2 typs.
I am looking for Bruno relatives related to Cialone,Cialoni,Clementi,Clemente and Di Clemente.Have any of these Names?

Not sure but perhaps this might be a help to you. My ancestors include Bruno's from Bari.

Here is what I know about my Bruno's. All of them came from Cassano Delle Murge which is in Bari. Domenico Bruno born about 1819 married Rosa DeBellis who was born 12-13-1826. They had at least one child, Maria Francesca Bruno, who was born in 1846. She married Giovanni Michele Centrullo who was born in 1840. They had 11 children, one of whom is my paternal Grandmother who emigrated to the USA in 1913. Perhaps your Nick Bruno is from this family. Do you know his approximate date of birth?

Hope this helps.

Allan

Hi, I'm searching for info for my grandfather Nicolas (Nickolas?) Bruno. His birth date was Jun 26, 1887 and I believe he was from Bari. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

and now I have more information. I'm 99.9% sure that my William is still the William listed below BUT:

He had a sister named Maggie that married a Beckem. She identified herself as Black on all the census.

I found the prison record for William - he was Black or Black/some other ethnicity mixed.

He died in prison but was buried outside the prison in a plot purchased by his niece, Mary Downing (nee Beckam).

His other brothers, as they got older, enumerated themselves as White, Mulatto and Black. Depends on the record.

Does anyone know anything about this family? Instead of the mystery being somewhat solved, now it's become very interesting.

thanks in advance for anything,
Juanita

to New Mexico. 1900 Federal Census for New Mexico info:

Domink Bruno 41 IT IT IT IMM 1882
Toresa Bruno 35 IT IT IT
William Bruno 18 IT IT IT
Lawrence Bruno 15 NM IT IT
John Bruno 12
Charley Bruno 7
Andrew Bruno 5
Johanna Bruno 2

Charly and Andrew MIGHT have been born in Kansas.
William married Santos Romero in 1910 and murdered her in 1917 in Denver CO. He died in prison.

any information would be appreciated. William's family became somewhat estranged after the murder, children were scattered to the wind, so know one really knows a whole lot about them. Family rumor was that there was French in the family somewhere.

thanks for ANYTHING.
Juanita
ah, but it gets even better!

Seems that William Bruno was probably born in 1878 in Santa Rita New Mexico to Charles and Alvina (Albina) Bruno. Charles was born in MO ~1847 and Albina was born about 1858 in Chihuahua Mexico. In the 1880 Santa Rita census they had an oldest daughter named Margurite (1876) and William, who was 2. Charles is listed as Black, with his parents being from Kentucky. Alvina is listed as White, with her parents being from Chihuahua. They then had several more children, including a son named Benjamin (who died in Denver, CO).

So now I'm looking for Charles Bruno, b 1847 in MO, with parents from Kentucky...or anyone that might be related to him.

thanks
Juanita

My father, John Bruno had siblings, Tony, Mike, Joe, Leonard,Pat,Pete and Frances, but they were born in Wy. and moved to Ca. Also, Tony was in the Army so now I figure not one in the same, as your Anthony would not have lived long enough.
Their parents were Nick and Rosa and I am still researching to find my great grandparents. I think Nick was from Bari, Italy and came here as a single man. Slowly getting somewhere
