Bryants in Kentucky / California / Indiana / Arizona

Hello,
I'm researching any info on my Grandfather Charles R. (Bud) Bryant and my Grandmother Helen Clarene Bryant. She may have went by Clair or Clare. They have lived in Kentucky, California, Indiana, and possibly Arizona. They had 3 kids that I know of. Linda Bryant, Kay Bryant, and Michael Ray O'Bryant. Charles put the O' on Michael because "he wanted to have a drunken Irishman in the family."

Michael is my real father. I have not seen him since I was in 3rd grade. 30+ years ago. I do know he passed away in Dec. 2007. Charles passed away in 1987 in Arizona I believe.

Kay had a son named Timothy Bryant who is only a few years older than me. He is probably in his mid 40's now.

Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks
Chris

Cullen Bryant,age,58.born.in Fort Sill, Okla., *Super Bowl *NFL's Running back ,with the Los Angeles Rams,

(Oct 2009,),
LOS ANGELES (AP)
Cullen Bryant,He was an outstanding person with great character traits,"

Cullen Bryant, who spent 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams,
was a running back on their 1980 Super Bowl team and fought the NFL's trading rules to remain in town, has died. He was 58.

Unknown to his family, Bryant had been under a doctor's care when he died Tuesday at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., said his sister-in-law, Wanda E. Bryant. She did not supply other details.

Bryant was the Rams' second-round draft pick in 1973. He played with the team until 1982, was with the Seattle Seahawks in 1983 and 1984 and returned to the Rams for his last pro season in 1987.

In 13 NFL seasons, Bryant scored 23 rushing and receiving touchdowns and ran back kickoffs for three others. He ran for 3,264 yards in 849 carries, and caught 148 passes for 1,176 yards.

He ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the 1980 Super Bowl, which the Rams lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-19.

At 6-foot-1 and 234 pounds, he was the biggest player of the time to regularly return kickoffs.

"When Cullen hits those holes, nobody wants to stick their nose in there," teammate Jack Youngblood told the Los Angeles Times in 1979. "Those little 180-pound (defensive backs) just jump on his back when he runs by."

"He was an outstanding person with great character traits," said Chuck Knox, Bryant's coach with both the Rams and Seahawks. "When we asked him to do certain things, he'd do them. He never complained about anything. When he got that big body moving, it was something else, and he had muscles on top of muscles."
*
Born William Cullen Bryant on May 20, 1951, in Fort Sill, Okla., Bryant attended high school in Colorado Springs and played football at Colorado University, where he received consensus All-American recognition.

In 1975, only two years after going to the Rams, Bryant went to federal court to challenge the right of then-NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle to order him off the team. The Rams had signed former Detroit Lions receiver Ron Jessie. Under the "Rozelle Rule" on free agents, the team signing a free agent had to compensate the team that lost the player. If the teams couldn't agree on compensation, the commissioner had the power to award either draft choices or players. He decided Bryant should go to Detroit.

At the behest of Rams owner Carroll Rosenbloom, Bryant went to court in Los Angeles. A judge was unsympathetic to the NFL's position during a hearing, and the league backed off several days later before a ruling could be made.

The Rozelle Rule eventually was modified.

Bryant, who was divorced, is survived by three brothers; two adult sons, William Cullen Jr. and Brandon, and a 13-year-old daughter, Brianna.

Colorado University,"
William Cullen Bryant ,
he received consensus All-American recognition.

Bryants of Bristol, Maine (Lincoln Co.)

I am trying to determine the parents and maternal great- grandparents of Andrew Jackson Jones, born 4 Apr 1823 in Bristol, Maine. I believe his parents were Simeon Jones and Rachel Fuller Bryant and Rachel's parents were Jonathan Bryant and Jane Yates Fuller. My sources are "Vital records of Old Bristol & Nobleboro" and "Maine Families in 1790." However, I can not find a record of Andrew's birth that documents who his parents were.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
Deb Brunt
Albuquerque, NM

Re: Obryant and Flowers near Champaign Co in Ohio

24Missi,

I don't know if I have much you are looking for although the family may belong to Isaiah (son of Austin). If these sound familiar, find out where to get Isaiah's pension file as it may have more family details. Isaiah and my Amos P. Flowers were both in the Civil War and survived being prisoners in Andersonville. I always wondered if Amos married Rebecca because of relationship Amos and Isaiah had during the war or if they knew each other before the war.

What I have is Austin O'Bryan (not the only O'Bryan(t) in the area) who married before 1835 to Mariah/Maria Park/Purkypile. Austin was born 1800-1810 in PA and died before 22 May 1855. Mariah was born 5 Jan 1815 in PA and died 20 Jun 1889 and is buried in Rosedale. Mariah married second James Woodard (b. ca 1810 TN) on 3 Jun 1860 in Champaign Co., OH. Austin and Mariah had a number of children all born in OH:
Tabitha (b. ca 1835);
William (b. ca 1836 m. Margaret Idle children Seymore, Edward, Ellsworth, Alvey, and Harvey);
Rachel (b. ca 1838);
Chancy/Chauncy (b. ca 1840);
Isaiah (b. 4 Feb 1843, survived Andersonville, d. 31 Dec 1920);
and Rebecca (b. ca 1848, m. 21 Oct 1867 Carysville, Champaign Co., OH, Amos P. Flowers who was in Andersonville with her brother, d. 24 Sep 1880 buried in Rosedale -- 4 children Clara E.; Rachel A. Emma Jane, and Male infant died at birth).

Isaiah (son of Austin) married 26 Feb 1867 Champaign Co., OH to Mary Kite (d. bef 1880). They had 5 children: John T. (b. Apr 1867); Charles C. (b. ca 1869); Mariah C. (b. ca 1871); Benjamin Frank (b. ca 1873); and Laura B. (b. ca 1876).
Isaiah married second Mrs. Hannah Brown on 7 Sep 1881 Champaign Co., OH (I do not have her maiden name). In the 1900 census Hannah is listed as having 1 surviving child who is not in the house so it is not clear which marriage it was from.
Isaiah married third Emma Catherine Piper (b. 7 Jun 1877 and d. aft 1920) on 5 May 1915 Champaign Co., OH. In Isaiah's house are step children Golda and Pearl Bowman.

In 1880 Isaiah's mother is keeping house for him as he is between wives.

Isaiah's civil war pension file is not at the National Archives as it is too recent (likely due to the last wife filing for pension). I don't recall where it is kept.

Isaiah's children as best I can figure out trying to chase them through the census years -- if the stones have dates you might have a better chance on sorting out the family:

John T. (b. Apr 1867 may be the may you list buried in Rosedale) may be the man living in Johnson Twp., Champaign Co., OH in 1910 with a wife Anna (b. ca 1877); son Robert J. (b. ca 1908); and daughter Ruth (b. ca 1909).

Charles C. (b. ca 1869) is living with father in 1910 and there is a "grandchild" of Isaiah's in the house "Leona Fern" age 5, presumably Charles'.

Benjamin Frank (son of Isaiah) married Emma (b. Aug 1879) and they have children: Carola M. (b. Nov 1898); Lettie B. (b. May 1900 and apparently died before 1910); Esta (b. ca 1902) and Lucile (b. ca 1904). Emma and two daughters and Frank are living with Isaiah in 1900.

I have nothing on the daughters.

Keep me posted,

BTW, Mariah Woodard's stone is near a tree in the Rosedale cemetery. It is grey square pillar not far from Amos P. Flower's reddish stone. Mariah's is hard to read but when facing it (and the front of the cemetery) you can see Amos'.

There is a lady in the area who has more on the Perkypiles.

Yes at Rosedale are my relations on one stone is Charles Obryant 1865-1938 wife Emaline Obryant 1861-1929 (should be my great grandparents) Then another single stone has Obryant family with John 1867-1937, Anna (maybe his wife), Ruth, Leona, Robert(is my mother's dad), and Franklin.
Another stone has William OBryant(is my uncle). Another stone has Jeanne Gravitt(Obryant-is my mom's sister) and Edward Gravitt (my uncle). Possibility on other Obryants here who married Flowers and Pine family may be related. This is a small Cemetary and back in these times it could be very likely these are also relations of mine. My Obryant ancestors lived in the small areas surrounding. I currently live in Logan county am interested to find any info on my past ancestors. Thanks, Missy

If you are trying to do just the NC part of the research I will not be much help but I might be able to help a little bit in between. John H. BRIANT / BRYANT b: abt 1805 NC is listed on US Census in 1830 - Humphries Co. TN., 1840 Hickman Co., KY, 1850 Carroll Co. TN.. He died in Carroll Co. TN. in 1857. They belonged to a church in McKenzie TN. His widow and children sold the land there and moved to Arkansas in 1858. His oldest son William Josiah BRYANT or William Joshua BRYANT died in Hood Co. TX. abt 1893 or at least that is the last year he paid taxes but could have died the year prior I suppose. His 2nd wife Donnie (mispelled Nannie by some) later married a Butler. Some of John H. BRIANT / BRYANT's children apparently stayed in Arkansas, some came to Texas and some are still to be found.
I hope this helps.
William Bryant (1660)

In my Bryant family research I gor back as far as William (1660) married to Ann. Recently, after logging on to other Bryant researchers sites, it apppears that Williams parents were Thomas Bryant and Tabitha Wright, but I cannot find any confirmation that this is correct. Some FT sites show Thomas and Tabitha born in USA and others in UK, but in all cases the subsequent ancestors details are the same, although born in differesnt countries. Can anyone confirm that Thomas and Tabitha were MY William's parents.

Geoff Bryant.

I am looking for info on Peter Bryant who married Mary Cornwall and for Roger Bryant who married Ruth Hahn. I have no dates but Iam guessing 1850's for Roger and early 1800's for Peter and I believe they all died in Kentucky.
