I posted the original message under mash59. After many years of research I have found much information about my g.g.grandfather Stephen Buchan who was born in Mexico and who came to Australia and lived at Nymboida.
His brother Robert drowned at Etonsville , also a cousin in the same spot on the river.
Stephen and Robert were sons of John Hitchcock Buchan, son of Captain David Buchan, 1818 Arctic Voyage leader.

My father, James Bucan (variant Buchan) Thomas was born 4/22/1937 and died Jan 2008, born on the same day as his grandfather, maybe greatgrandfather? James Bucan/Buchan Thomas. My father's father was Edward Thomas, who resided in Bronx, NY. I was told Edward sailed clipper ships as a boy with his father Thomas to the orient. James the senior was originaly from Wales, rest of the Thomas family moved out to Ohio, lost touch. Elizabeth Thomas

Hello! I am the daughter of the man (Mike Brown) who posted about being adopted. I would love to find out more about your uncles who lived in Michigan. Even an approximate age/birth date would help us match up whether they could possibly be related! I am new to this type of research, and there seem to be so many Buchan's, everywhere... Thanks so much for this "hint" at least - hope to hear from you soon!

Hello, I found the graves at Eatonsville by pure coincidence whilst water skiing on the Clarence River. I noticed the large headstones overlooking the river bank near the old crossing. The graves are in the Mlyneford cemetery near Grafton NSW Australia. I checked with my grandmother who was in her 90's and she thought they were two brothers. But it appears they were cousins. and they drowned whilst crossing the River but they died 5 years apart one in 1860 and one in 1865. if you send me your email address I will send photos of the graves. Also I have a copy of the history of the Buchans done by Marg Ashby ( my 2nd cousin who I didn't know existed until I was given a copy of her research by Robert Buchan who I met by pure chance.Robert was the mayor of St George in Queensland Australia at the time. My email address is roysboy@tpg.com.au

He was married to Charlotte Jones, daughter of Jeremiah Jones, our gr grandfather. We have some interesting information, and would like to share your information. e.g. I read that it was his nephew who drowned, age 19 in 1865, but don't know the realtionship of the other boy, Robert, who drowned at Eatonsville.

I was adopted at birth and have only just found out who my Grand Father was, Wesley Lawrence Buchan. My grand Mother divorced my grand father when my mom was only 4 yrs of age. All the info I have is from ancestry.com. I have only met 3 Buchan's on line and they have no info on the family, the live in Florida and I live in Oregon. I hope you can help me. I go by my birth name in my family tree, Lorri Anne Butler. Any help would be appreciated..............Lori

Hi,
I've just read your posts - I am also a cousin, of sorts - my grandmother was Sarah May Blackadder, youngest child of James' brother William & Sarah May Allison. William married Cora Alice Buchan after Sarah May died following the birth of my grandmother.

I have traced the Blackadders back to William & Anna Poole, but have not yet found William in Scotland - Stirling, according to death notices, etc. - not that I've really tried, as yet. I have spent some time trying to discover how he made his way to Australia, but haven't had any luck there either. Anna came out on the Bussorah Merchant in 1833, but I haven't found William yet, who must have come out at around the same time.

Have any of you traced him back to Scotland, &/or the ship he emigrated on?

Thanks
Kim

I am descended from Alexander S. Buchan (1815-1902). He was born in NY state, and either died in Wisconsin or Iowa, or possibly in Illinois. I cannot find his wife, or parents, and have no idea where in NY his family is from. One relative says we are related to the Pearre family (possibly Perry/Parry), who are supposedly his ancestors. I can find no evidence. Does anyone have any information on this particular branch of this Buchan family? Thanks in advance.
bkb

Hello all,

I just joined ancestry.ca and am happy I did!

A number of years ago (approximatly 25 I think) my mother wrote a great uncle of mine for information about my family to help me in a school project I was undertaking. What she recieved was a 4 page account of the family story with some very interesting tidbits and a hand drawn family tree going as far back as the 1700's. I thought I would post in case anyone wants to have a look at it, I hope to have it online and open for viewing within the next few days.

James Buchan

Hi My name is Royce Wilson,my great Grandmother was Minna Buchan from Nymboida NSW Australia. Her father was my G G Grandfather I have a copy of the Buchan History from the search for the north west passage, the silver mines in mexico. I also have found the headstones of the two Buchan cousins who drowned at Eatonswill as it was named in 1860 and 1865 when they drowned. I made contact with Marg Ashby,( an unknown cousin ) and took her out to view the graves which are in the Mylneford cemetery across the river (Clarence) from Eatonsville (name changed from Eatonswille). Before this though by pure coinsidence I met Robert Buchan in Saint George Queensland, he gave me a copy of the history of the Buchans from the early days in Scotland to Mexico to Australia down to my Grandmother Kitty Frost who's nmother was Minna Buchan. Contact me if I can be of any help. roysboy@tpg.com.au Minna is buried aprox. 500 yards from where we live. Nymboida is 26 miles from here. Grafton. NSW Australia. Bye Royce..

William Buchan of Edinburgh born 1805 married Margaret Henderson

Hi my g-g-g-grandfather was William Buchan who sailed on the Duncan to Australia in 1838 with his wife Margaret. He ended up living in Camden and was a stonemason working on many of the town's building and church (he designed the church font). I am wondering whether anyone can help me with information on his father as I would love to trace the Buchan line back further and need some concrete information. My grandfather was Noel Davis known as "Buck" but his middle name was "Buchan" after his grandmother Jane Buchan daugher of William and Margaret. It seems a mystery to what became of William as there are lots of reports about Margaret running her own business and being a well respected member of the community in Camden while raising 9 children but no mention later on of what became of William. William is not buried next to Margaret at the church I visited in Camden. Curious as to what became of my ancestor.

His father was John Hitchcock Buchan. Stephen was his Godfather. A Professor of Hispanic languages who is doing a lot of research into JHB and the Mexican silver/gold mines has the BDM in Spanish and is proving very interesting. Stephen on his wedding certificate has filled in Stephen on the wrong line and the LDS have incorrectly transcribed it.
