You might search a little more. Not sure of the lineage, but it sounds like a few Buchta's may have made it to that area. My Great Uncle Herman (Born of Herman Buchta) and my grandfather Charles (Chuck) Buchta hailed from the area. I still have cousins back there, and I know Stephanie was attempting to get more information on her grandfather and his father.

Sadly, our branch of this tree is dying out. My father Roger passed in 1975; my daughter, Raven, won't carry on the name. But Stephanie's is thriving if you can track her down.

Your "Lena C." Schubert is Caroline C. Schubert b: 19Oct1886, MO. She was the dau of Frederick Edward Schubert b: 1860 and Anna Elizabeth Flessa b: 1856. Your Aunt Laura Sedonia Buchta must have got the name Sedonia from "Lena's" sister Sedonia Elizabeth Schubert, her Aunt. It looks like we are distantly realated.

Have you looked at the Poznan Project marriage data1820-1889? Be sure to read the surname variations also. You can search just one last name or both bride and groom names. Sometimes parents are listed also. Find it on the Ancestry reference list or Google Poznan Project. Please tell other genealogists about it as it is seldom mentioned on the message boards.

Eleanore Buchta

Eleanore M. Buchta, 104, of Watertown, passed away on Friday evening, Feb. 8, 2008, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with the Rev. Terry Larson of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Watertown.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials, if desired, may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Marquardt Memorial Manor.

The former Eleanore Marie Meyer was born on Dec. 30, 1903, in Watertown, daughter of Fred and Olga (Neitzel) Meyer. On Sept. 23, 1925, she married Roy J. Buchta in Rockford, Ill.

Eleanore had been employed for many years at Mid-State Shoe Company in Watertown. She enjoyed quilting, birthday club, bowling, fishing and homemaking.

Eleanore loved to be with relatives and friends. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Ethel) Buchta of Watertown; two grandchildren, Steven Buchta of Watertown and Jennifer (John) Looser of Oconomowoc; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Alyssa Looser.

Eleanore was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy on Jan. 15, 1972; a grandson in infancy; a sister, Lucille (Leland) Buchta; and a brother, Marvin (Doris) Meyer.

That's too cool! I don't have much info on your mom or her siblings. I believe Bernadette was a nun? I think I have a wedding photo of Martin with either your mom or your other aunt. I'll try and attach it here. I have a few other photos you might be interested in, plus some of people I don't know. They might be of my great grandfather Albert's wife's family (Francis Brown). If so you probably wouldn't know who they are either.

My Buchta family doesn't live in MN anymore, but the names of those who did are George Buchta, Emile (Otto) Buchta, Martin Buchta, Albert Buchta, & Martha Buchta.

Katherine Buchta [Chermak] died at 68 in 1947. Mary died in 1957. Matilda [Tillie] never married, died 1961 or 63. Elizabeth was Mrs. Lapsansky, dod unknown. I did/do not know anything about Anthony.
Albert died in 1941 at 88. According to a card I had his wife Katherine died in 1920, circumstance and locale unknown.
Do u have any other info?

Rudolph V. Buchta was my grandfather. He had eight children with Mary Drastata:

1. Rudolph Joseph, who fathered Vincent Joseph, Leslie Ann, and Michael Patrick (myself).

2. Gracie Buchta, mother of Angie, Christopher, and Melanie

3. Richard Buchta, no children, now deceased.

4. Clarice Buchta, mother of Melissa

5. Sally Buchta, mother of Stephanie

6. Gerald Buchta, father of David and Brian

7. Stephen Buchta, father of Bryce

8. Gregory Buchta, now a father, although I forget his child's name!

Rudolph Joseph Buchta died in January of 1986, if my memory is correct. Mary passed away last week on June 20th, 2008.

Johann Buchta b.27.8.1861 and married Oktavia Boriczko on 19.3.1920 in Kapfenburg in Austria. Johann's parents were a Josef Buchta and Antonia Husak but I do not have details of them. I know a lot of their relatives went to USA. Johann was born in Dankowitz in Czechoslovakia. My email is out of order at present so please reply on ancestry board for the time being.

My grandfather buchta comes from poland, he says the name is bohemian, and it means 'little cake'. I have acctually seen a christmas cake in which was made in czech republic which looks like stollen called buchta!!

Amazing: I think you'd be referring to my Grandfather, Charles Buchta. His son, my father Roger, died when I was 3.

Delma, his wife, lived until about 1992. Now, the survivors are myself, Chuck, and my aunt Sherry.

Add to my clan: my wife, Katarina Buchta, and our daughters: Raven Buchta and Kissaundra Moreno (step-daughter, my wife's maiden name).

Hope this catches somebody's eye... it's interesting to think I might be able to answer that age old question " Buchta... Is that German?"

For anyone who can help me with my daughter's lineage.
Christianne Buchta and her 3 sons, Gottlieb, August and Eugene Buchta arrived in America on November 19, 1881 on the SS Vaderland. Eugene Buchta passed away on November 18, 1881 and i'm unsure where his body is buried - whether on land or at sea.

I'm also unsure of Christianne Buchta's spouse, or if Buchta was her maiden name. I have no other information other than in 1881 Christanne was 27 years old. Gottlieb was 6 years, August was 3 years and Eugene was 3 mos old.
Gottlieb settled in the New Haven County area and is buried in the Guilford Connecticut Cemetary on Boston Street. Gottlieb went by the more common name of "Jacob" while living in Connecticut.

Any information that anyone can offer would be most appreciated. My email address is Cropper@sunvalley.net . I've associated with a few people reguarding the Buchta family, but haven't found that missing link yet. I hope you can help me. Many thanks in advance.

My Amalia (Emily, Emma) Buchta b.26 Aug 1869 d.6 Apr 1932 married George Horst. They had 3 boys. Ray, who resided in Osceola, Nebraska at the time of his mothers death. Ralph, who resided in Boston at the time of his mothers death & Owen, who resided in Osceola, Nebraska by the time of his mothers death. Seems I read an obituary on her.
Notes include :
Referred to as Emily in her obituary and as Emma on her son, Owen's, picture.
Death date could be 1936, as hand writen on her obituary.
Attended Quercus Grove Elementary School, in Madison Co. Illinois.
The only thing I know of George, is he died before 1910.

I know my great Grandparents are from Germany, but not sure where. When I moved here I learned that the name may originate from the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. I know a family called Buchta in Bolton, Lanacashire, England. Not sure if from Krakow but can check.
The head of the family is Zygmund, born late 1910s or early 20s married to an English lady called Betty - two children: Kevin and ?.

My Aunt Laura Sedonia Buchta Thompson's parents were John Jacob and Lena C. Schubert Buchta. I don't have any information on John Jacob or Lena, except they had at least three other children: Katherine who married a Knernshield (sp?), a daughter who is still living near Russellville and a son (deceased) who I can't think of right at this moment. My aunt just passed away this year. There are several grandchildren (one of whom is my cousin) who might be able to help you. My uncle (living) is also very good at family history. I am searching for any info on my Great-grandfather's
family. His name was Stanislaw Buchta, he came to the U.S.
along with two more brother's that we know of their names were
Adam Buchta and Johann Buchta. Adam and Stanley lived in Chicago,
Illinois for awhile and then moved to Minneapolis, MN, were not sure
what happened to Johann, the last bit of info we found was a paper to
join the Army in 1918 he was still in Chicago then, we found that sometimes
they used the last name of Boyd. Their father's name was John Buchta and their
mother's name was Anna Wanat. They had relatives in Chicago by the names of
Bebak, Ryska, Gembala and Toporek. Would love any info! thanks!!!

My grandfather was Johann Buchta who was from Dankowitz (im Mehrer) in Czechoslovakia. He went to Austria to live. He was a gunsmith. He apparently had two brothers who emigrated to USA we do not know their names. Johann was born in 1861 and died around 1940 in Kapfenburg, Austria.
