Surnames: Buchwald and Alkalay from Sarajevo
There were!!! My greataunt, Leontine Alkalay, from Sarajevo, married Ferdinand Buchwald, the son of a Rabbi, around 1900 in Sarajevo. Their only child, a son, Rudi married Zita Bisicki, possibly from Sarajevo or Zagreb. They had a daughter, Mirica (Miriam). They were last seen in Zagreb when the war broke out. They never returned. Rudi was apparently shot somwhere by the Nazis and Zita and the child Mirica were supposedly taken to some saltmines where they were murdered. Leontine Buchwald survived the war. She was hidden in my mother's appartment for several years. She died after the war, sometime between 1948 and 1952 and is buried in the Jewish part of the cemetery in Zagreb (Mirogoj)
