I have no information for you but I am searching possibly for Sarah's daughter Susan. She would have been my great grandmother. She was adopted (I believe) by the Buckalew family (William T. and Sarah J.) of Preston County WV. She was born around 1867 and married James Irvin Lowry. One of their daughters Mildred Gertrude was my grandmother. Do you have any information about who Susan's birth parents might be?

I'm the youngest daughter of Bill Buckalew (Toby's uncle). We've been wondering what happened to Toby, Bart and Aunt Carmen and would love to communicate with them. I do know where his father David is so I hope he reads this and contacts me. I am just beginning to trace my family history and find this all so very cool.

The Buccleuch family was part of the Scott clan. The original crest (coat-of-arms supporting stuff) was a little risque, included a lady w/ one exposed breast. Motto was "AMO", Latin for "I love" LOL. If you haven't seen it I think this Buckalew sight has the coat of arms, lots of good stuff there: www.geocities.com/~buckalew.

This is not my family. I'm helping someone else. Wanted to provide what I've found.

Samuel BUCKALEW married Katie (at geocities it lists her as maiden name BANKS). They had Bula Lee 8 Aug 1908. They can be found at:
1910 Texas (Liberty, 6th Prec) E.D. 86, Sheet (scratched out-possibly 110) Line 54 his brother Howard and mother Mary are on the same page also. Mrs. Celia BUCKALEW is living with Mary as a daughter and Carra is listed as a granddaughter. Both in the 1900 and 1910 census Celia is listed as having 1 child-apparently Carra.

Mary BUCKLEW with Sealey Hagwood, Samuel, Howard and Corrie Bucklew in 1900 Texas (San Jacinto, Evergreen Twp) E.D. 1, Sheet 14, Line 27

1920 Texas (Montgomery, 8th Prec) E.D. 115, Sheet 5, Line 67
Sam BUCKLEW has family, mother and 1/2 sister Celia Hagwood living with him.

Howard is on line 79 of the same page

Between them-Carra is surname BEESON. Ida-can't read surname-appears to be the daughter of Mary listed at geocities.

Samuel, 2nd wife Delia and Jesse Howard BUCKALEW are buried in the Morgan Cemetery, Montgomery County, TX.

Listed in: County Line Cemetery, Montgomery County, TX is:
Mary BUCKALEW born 18 Dec 1841 died 1 Mar 1924
Note to the side-made by granson

The 1900 census lists her birth as Sept 1841. It would be interesting to know who gave that information. Also, if she was exhumed. Is she actually buried in MS or TX.

Bula Lee BUCKALEW married Melvin Allen WHITMIRE. IF you use Rootsweb archives search-they had their children in Liberty County and Montgomery County, TX (8 in all). Bula also appears as Beulah.
Garrett Buckelew was not born in Edgefield, South Carolina about 1750 because his father Richard Buckelew was living in Loudoun County, Virginia at about that time. The earliest date we have for Richard in Virginia is 1749 and since Garrett was on the Tithe list for 1762, this means he must have been born around 1745 because you had to be 16 years old to be on this list. This being true, Garrett was probably born in Middlesex County, New Jersey before his father Richard moved to Virginia. Also Richard Buckelew was probably not born around 1716 because if this were true, he would have been 66 years old in 1782 when he died while serving in the British Militia. You only had to serve in the British Militia from the age of 16 through 60.

I'm sorry it has been so long since you posted and I haven't got in touch with you.

I have been told that John went by "Pete Buckaloo" becauce he got into some kind of trouble. So that would explain the spelling difference. I am trying to find out all I can about John's ancestry. I haven't found anything about his parents or where they came from. I would appreciate any info you have.

Thank you for the info and story about John. It seems more personal when there are stories about the people in our histories. Thanks again and I will wait for your reply.

Sincerely,
Delores

I am not sure if I can help-

I am the granddaughter-in-law of Loretta (Bucklaew) Scolton who was born in 1919 in Jamestown, NY, which is only 1/2 hour drive from Erie, PA.

I happen to be on the web searching for the birth location of Enoch Bucklaew (somewhere in Philadelphia) at Loretta's request when I came upon your message here. I am told that Bucklaew is also spelled Buckalew by different family members.

Loretta had several sisters/brothers- and I'm not sure if Agnes was one of them, but I will ask her when I see her this Saturday.

I know Loretta and her sister Dorothy will be so very surprised to know that so much of their family information is accessible on the internet.

Re: John Buckalew m. Eva Fazenbaker

I believe we have a match. I have 10 children listed for Eva and John Buckalew - of the 3 girls (Delilah, Grace and Lessie) you mention, I dont' have Delilah. Here's the list I have - Mary, Martha, May, Icrey, Lilee, Anne, George, Grace, Lessie, and William Conrad (my husband's ancestor). My husband's name is also William Conrad. Could Lilee be a nickname for Delilah??? There is always some confusion (I confess!) - for instance I have Grace marrying Asa Wilson. But in the obit for Eva Fazenbaker Buckalew (buried 1/27/1930) Grace's name is listed as Grace Williamson of Ellenboro, W Va in 1930. You mention she married a Knox - perhaps she did both! Also John William Buckalew was married before Eva - to an unknown lady - and they had 3 children - James, Maggie and Becky.

Hi, I'm doing research on the Buckalew family/name and have come across some great information. But I have a couple questions:
1. Is the name French, Dutch, Scottish, or what?
2. My boyfriend and his family are Buckalews and they are in GA. If anyone needs information about Robert and Frances Buckalew in GA, please let me know.
3. Also, I was wondering if anyone has any Buckalew websites other than Les Buckalews?
Thanks!
Gretchen Deitze

I hope this info helps someone.

My name is Dan Watson
My Mother's Maiden name was Sarah Lillian Fisher,
her mother's married name was Spicy Ann (Buckalew) Fisher,
Spicy Ann's fathers name was Jonathan Albert Buckalew,
his fathers name was, Elias Buckalew.

My brother David Rollo Watson, just passed this information to me he got it from the Mormon Chuch and the 1840 census? The comments in the census says that "Spicy" (not sure which Spicy?) was working for the family, it says she was full blooded Cherokee Indian? Has anyone seen the hand written census?

Bart married "Mamie" Loper. They both came from Washington Co. Alabama. I believe "Mamie's" father was Edward Loper. I have found many Edward Lopers, but can't find her. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Practically all of my family has died and I have no information, other than what I have found. Thanks a million. Linda Buckalew Lott

Hi,

My father was Thomas F. Buckalew, born in Ohio in 1912. His father was William Garrett Buckalew. If you have any info I would appreciate it!

I belong to Clan Scott, they have a lot of info on Buckalews. Buckalew is a sept of the Scott Clan. The current chieftan is Lord Buccleuch (the spelling of our surname before it was Americanized!)
