Buckhout, Henry - NY to Ontario 1830's

Wanted to update my information.. I am still researching Henry Buckhout who first appears in Percy Twp, Ont. in 1831 with a wife and 2 sons < 16 yrs. I have evidence from subsequent marriages that he was born abt 1800 in NY or NY City to John & Anne (could be Anna?) Buckhout. I believe he could be the son of John & Anna (Appleby) Buckhout.

I am also interested in contacting anyone researching the Buckhout line .. the more likely to find a connection.

Carol

BUCKHOUT, Halsey - Rochester, NY - 1900's

I received the following email from an individual who has Halsey Buckhout memorabilia which he'd like to return to a descendant, if possible:

"Hi Carol,

Many years ago we bought a house in Rochester, NY from the estate of a deceased inventor and sewing machine wizard named Halsey Buckhout. He had died some years before and had left the life use of his house to the two elderly ladies who had taken care of him in his final years. Eventually
they too needed care, and the house at 216 Oxford Street, Rochester, NY, was sold to us. On the mantlepiece, in the dining room, was a large bible that probably belonged to him. There was nothing written inside, as I recall, but there was an old picture of a child on a blanket placed on a large grand
piano who I assume was Halsey. There was also a list of individuals named Miller, sometimes together with their birth dates and death dates. There was also a picture of Teddy Roosevelt and, I believe, William Jennings."

If you think Halsey is your ancestor, please contact me at ceroach@telus.net so I can arrange contact..

Carol

Looking for information on Benjamin B. Buckhout from the area of Ossining NY...Married Phebe T. Birdsall
(b. 12/4/1830 married in NY City 4/21/1852 d. 6/3/1879)
*Phebe Birdsall's father may have been an asst warden at Sing Sing Prison...
children : Frank (b. 2/3/1853, married Eliza Burroughs, d. 11/13/1907 in Palo Alto, Calif)
Edwin (?b.1/14/1855
Lena (?b.3/22/1864
Benjamin B. Buckhout is listed in 1860 "Sing-Sing"(Ossining) town directory with a Flower & Feed store on Main off Church, and a home on Malcom n Ann.

Benjamin B. Buckhout was appoionted Suttler for the 6th NY Volunteer Artillery at Harpers Ferry, Va. on 1/30/1862.

Benjamin B. Buckhout is listed in the 1892 "Sing-Sing" (Ossining) directory as a broker living at 43 William St.

Benjamin B. Buckhout was alive in Nov 1907 and came to Palo Alto California for son Franks funeral-then returned to NY.

Benjamins' eldest son Frank & wife & children left Ossining NY for Chico and later Susanville in Northern California in the 1880's to join the wifes' brother already out west at the time. Frank & Eliza Buckhout had 6 children (3 boys-3 girls)and their decendants produced a California wing of the Buckhout familys who lost contact with the NY families due to Benjamin and Frank parting in the 1880's on bad terms.

I have no birth information or death information for Benjamin B Buckhout, no information on any siblings, nor of who his parents were. Benjamin B Buckhout was my Great Great Grandfather. I would appreciate suggestions for problem solving, and/or information on locating Benjamin B. Buckhouts' links to the earlier NY Buckhout families - hopefully leading back to the 1662 family predecessor Jan Boeckhout.

Buckhout/Buckout, Henry 1800's USA-CDA

I am looking for information on my ancestor Henry Buckhout (spelling seems to vary
in every document! He was born in the USA around 1799/1800, but I do not know where.
He moved to Ontario, Canada sometime in the 1800's and first appears in the 1840 Census
of Cramahe Township, Northumberland County, Ontario. Henry was married twice, first to Nancy
and then to Agnus Miller.

If you have a Henry Buckhout who left the USA and was never heard from again - maybe
he is my ancestor! Please email me with any information.

Thanks --- Carol.
