Ellen,
Good to hear from you too. I thought your username sounded familar.
This is one of the many errors in Buckleriana but all in all Wm. and Katherine did very well with what they had to work with at the time. She told me they put thousands of miles and hours into the book. It is a good "starting point" but all needs to be verified.
Robert Buckler, the elder does not have a stone if he is buried in this cemetery and he probably is. At least three unmarked graves are in the row with Catherine's grave.
We have found new information on Catherine Moss. She was former Catherine Cummins who married Thornton Moss, 13 February, 1805 in Bourbon Co., KY.
Her son shows in a court record in Nicholas County. He evidently was the only child.
Here:
Nicholas County, Kentucky
From Order Book C,

Pg. 158 Original Book:
May 1814, Wm. Purnell grdn. to Stephen Moss, inf. of Caty Moss, to learn
art of shoemaker.
AND as for Agigail Ellis new information was found (not by me but it was shared with me and I did verify) that shows Abigail was former Abigail Wiggins who first married Benjamin Ellis. She next married Stephen Buckler (son of Stephen Buckler and Unknown Greene). Look at your records and you will find the surname Ellis more than once in your Buckler file. Now here is where the "tangle" comes in. Benjamin Ellis and Abigail Wiggins' son Richard Ellis married Mariah Buckler the daughter of Robert Buckler and his first wife who is unknown to us at this time. This is the same Robert Buckler who married second Catherine Cummins Moss. Still with me? Then Richard Ellis and Mariah Buckler's son, John Ellis married MARIA Buckler the daughter of Willis Wilson Buckler and Isabella Peyton. You most likely know where he fits.
Try this email...
sabo@utionline.net or shirleybuckler@hotmail.com
Ellen, I haven't been able to host another reunion since the one you attended a few years ago. Both Bob and I have had health problems but are both doing some better. I would love to host another one. We have a large crowd so it takes a lot of coordinating. You are still on our list to notify when and or if we do so.
I will let you know well in advance.
Take care and keep in touch.
Shirley Buckler
Hello Shirley,
It's good to hear from you again. I had lost contact since the Email address I have for you doesn't work anymore. I was trying to find out if there have been any more reunions or if any are planned for this year.

The information I have in my files is different from yours. The multitude of Robert Bucklers makes it hard to distinguish between them. My information is from BUCKLERIANA, 1987, BY William AND Katherine Buckler pp. 60 and 71-72. "ROBERT BUCKLER, Merchant, of Sardis, Kentucky, born 1784; died 11 July 1865. Buried Sardis, Ky. Married 21 Feb 1816 CATHERINE _________MOSS. She was born 1784, died 10 Apr 1866; bur. Sardis, Ky" He was the son of Stephen, the son of the original Robert Buckler and his first wife, who I show as Margaret Meade (Source, A Partial History of the Robert Buckler Family by Robert Moffitt.) She is listed as "Unknown" in BUCKLERIANA.

I am showing the Robert you referred to who was married to Frances Ann Throckmorton, as being the son of Stephen Buckler, Jr., the son of Stephen, brother of the Robert referenced above. He was married to ABIGAIL ELLIS. Page 70, BUCKLERIANA. Page 71, "ROBERT BUCKLER, of Mt. Olivet, Ky., born 1827; died of cholera 18 Aug 1866. Bur. Sardis, Ky. California Gold Rush 1849-51. Married FRANCES ANN THROCKMORTON, dau. of MATTHEW R AND FRANCES M EVERHART; born 23 Jan 1843 in Virginia; died 1821."

Please let me know if this source is incorrect.
Ellen Welker
Hi,
I have been to this cemetery and if Robert Buckler the husband of Catherine Cummins Moss is buried there, then I must have missed his stone and my husband and I went through the cemetery very well. We even checked the broken stones that were piled up to one side.
The Robert Buckler buried in Sardis Cemetery was the son of Stephen Buckler and Abigail Wiggins Ellis. But they all descend from the same Robert Buckler of Dublin, Ireland to St. Mary's Co.,MD to Washington Co., KY.
I show the Robert Buckler found in Sardis Cemetery born abt. 1825 and died 18 August 1866. His wife was Frances Throckmorton, daughter of Matthew Throckmorton and Frances Everhart. Frances Throckmorton Buckler is buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Robertson Co., KY. as is some of her children. There is a long stone with the surname McGinety on one side and Buckler on the other with individual stones for each.
Shirley Buckler

Robert Buckler was the son of Stephen Buckler, Jr., son of Stephen Buckler, son of Robert Buckler, who originally settled in St. Mary's Co., MD from Dublin, Ireland, and his first wife. Catherine was Robert's wife. But I show them both being born in 1784. Could the age 38 be 83? On old tombstones it is sometimes hard to distinguish three's from eight's. My source is "Buckleriana, Notices of the Family Buckler."

I am fairly certain I am related to Grig Buckler. My paternal grandmother was named Mina Buckler and I believe her father was Grig Buckler. Grig was married to Mary and they had 3 sons and at least one daughter (that daughter being my grandmother). My father believes they had another daughter as well but I do not know what her name was. Any information you have on the Bucklers I would be really interested to hear about as I have only just started researching and so have very little information at present.

That's the problem Paul. I don't. I've only just beginning my search. My grandmother has altzheimers now and is little help. I know my grandmother, Olive married Gordon Edgecomb and had my father Ralph. I know that one of the Buckler's in Toronto related to us is Lynn Buckler. Last I heard she had 2 kids maybe around mid 20's now. Sorry but that's all I know so far.

I reside in St. Mary's County, Md. and am a direct descendant of Alexander Buckler. He is my Great Great Grandfather. My Great grandfather is Richard Oliver Buckler, my grandfather is Richard lee Buckler and my father is Lawrence Raley Buckler. I've done some family tree research and cannot go back any further than Alexander. I'm sure that we tie into the Benjamin Buckler line, but have come to a roadblock so far. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a novice at this E-mail system and don't know what my address is. As soon as I can get this info from the LAN administrator, I'll put it on this site.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the pain that you are experiencing. Perhaps by this time, you have found the remedies that you so badly need. I'm also sorry that I can't help with the laser surgery funding. In fact, that is what I need , as well. My surgery is to just get rid of these glasses. Otherwise, I'm in good health.

It is always fascinating to me to find someone with the same name. I'm from St. Mary's County, Md., with family roots that go all the way back to at least an Alexander Buckler, who was born in 1804, or thereabouts. I suspect that I connect with Benjamin Buckler, who came over from England in the 1750's. FYI

That's all for now. Take Care.
