THOMAS FRANCIS BUCKLEY

I am looking for information on Thomas Francis Buckley who was born around 1842, the son of Thomas and Margaret Buckley. He was later a member of the United States War Veterans' Association of Sydney, Australia as well as another organization known as the "Not Under 70 Club". Thomas Francis Buckley died at 96 years of age at his home at 4 Henry Street, Lidcombe, New South Wales, Australia on June 10, 1937. His funeral service was conducted at St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Lidcombe. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about your Buckleys but perhaps Hammond married twice? I thought it seemed unlikely for there to be two stonemasons named Hammond Buckley. Maybe the first wife died?

My G G Grandfather John Buckley born abt 1834 in Dukinfield/Stalybridge England, married Margaret Dunn a widow (Nee Graby)on 21st August 1864 in Manchester, England.
The marriage certificate states John's father as Hammond Buckley, a stone mason by trade.
I can only find only one Hammond, a stone mason, in the census, his wife is Ann. I know this is not the one I am looking for, and have now hit a brick wall.
Any info would be gratefully received.

p. 223 of Lancaster, Coos Co., NH town records: Mr. John Bradley and Mrs. Sarah Buckley married at Portsmouth, NH Saturday evening 7 August 1790 Third Church of Congregationalist, Portsmouth.

Would anyone have any clues as to her parents? Or if she was the widow of a Mr. Buckley?

Maxine V. Buckley, 85, of Morning Sun, formerly of Muscatine, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Morning Sun Care Center.

Services will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Brooks of Providence Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Geo. M. Wittich-
Lewis Funeral Home.

She was born March 22, 1915, in Fremont Neb. the daughter of Charles and Mable Pinckney Buckley.

She moved to Muscatine in the late 1960s. After attending nurses training in Clinton, she worked at the Lutheran Homes as an LPN until retiring.

Survivors include an aunt, Jessie Stark of Phillips, Neb.; several cousins, Charles and Verna Buckley of Muscatine, Don and Helen Buckley of Blue Grass, Ray and Thelma Whittaker of Columbus Junction, Robert and Myrna Sell of Aledo, Ill; and many other cousins that live outside the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1931, in Muscatine, the daughter of Eddie and Lela Callaway Brown. She married Charles M. Buckley on April 15, 1961, in Muscatine.

She was a Girl Scout assistant leader for many years.

She lived in various places around the Midwest moving back to Muscatine in 1972.

Stanley Eugene Buckley, 68, Tarpon Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Newport Richey Hospital of leukemia with complications.

He was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of George McKinley and Lois Pinckney Buckley. He married Judith Wheeler Aug. 16, 1957. He later married his wife, Barbara.

He worked for many years at the Muscatine Journal as a pressman. Most people will remember him as the last director of the Weed Park Zoo. For several years following, he worked for Bosch Pest Control. The Weed Park rose garden and other city gardens still display the beauty of his love for roses. He served many years as a Boy Scout leader in a troop at the Salvation Army.

Survivors include four sons, Mark, Michael and wife Sarah and Barton, all of Muscatine, and Brett and wife Teletha of St. James, Mo.; six daughters, Julie Griffith and husband Gary of Vienna, Mo., Jane Martin and husband Timothy, Jill DeVore and husband Tony and Jackie Davis, all of Muscatine, Jessica Brock and husband Raymond of Omaha, Neb., and Ashley Buckley of Tarpon Springs; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles of Muscatine, Donovan of Blue Grass and Joseph of LaGrange, Wyo.; and four sisters, Ida Ottaviano and husband John of Nacogdoches, Texas, Ruth Robertson and husband Larry of Grinnell, Thelma Whittaker and husband Raymond of Columbus City and Myrna and husband Robert of Aledo, Ill.

Charles Mckinley Buckley, 77, of Muscatine, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at the Muscatine Care Center.

He was involved in the trucking industry for over 50 years and began hauling livestock in high school, working his way to owning trucks, which were leased by various companies.

I know how frustating that can be.. Our line of Buckley's from Cork did have a Timothy that stayed in Ireland while his brothers came to Connecticut..Father was John and Mother was a Mahoney.. Good luck and we shall see if we connect at some point down the line

Unfortunately no. The parish marriage register only indicated that the grooms fathers name was Buckley-no first name and the witnesses were Thomas O Conner and John Walsh.The brides fathers name was not recorded either.

Hi, my Grandmother was Nancy D'Arcy ( nee Buckley) and lived ar 7 Harbour Hill, Cobh, Co. Cork. To this day the House still has the name Buckley over the main window as it was a paint and builders providers for many years around the turn of the last century.
Perhaps your grandmother was an aunt, as all her siblings are accounted for - Her brother John was a priest who contracted malaria in Africa and died young, Kate was a Head Mistress in a local school and died in 1979, Enda ( Sister Angela) was a sister of the infant jesus - also a missionary, in Malasia for many years, before returning to Ireland in the 80's and finally Jane ( sister Peter) was a Carmelite in Tallow Co. Waterford where she was enclosed from her early twenties.I hope this helps in some way.
The only information I have about my great grandfathers siblings was that a number of them died in their teens as there was a terrible epidemic after world war 1.

I am actually a distant relative of Jack Buckley--I wish I would have stumbled upon this post 5 years ago! He taught me how to draw as a young girl and I am actually doing research on him for a presentation and I stumbled upon this post. I have some information on Henry H Buckley, Jacob L Buckley, and William Buckley who moved to Shelby, Iowa from Fulton Co., PA in about 1870. They were Civil War vets.

If these are the ones you are interested in, let me know and I will send you more (back to about 1628 in Ireland)

Ita, Rose, Michael and John are the children of Therese -
Anthony (Tony) Hart lived near Liverpool (other side of the Mersey) and passed away a few years ago.

Albertson, is a town in Nassau County, New York (Long Island). My Aunt Josie (Costello) Strath lived there for a time.

Marie Costello Buckley is my 1st cousin, daughter of John (Jack) Costello and Anne Foran. Her brothers, Harry and Jack are both deceased.
Nellie Hart is my father's sister (Nicholas Costello) whose sole surviving child is Rita Hart, Crosby UK. I am regular communication with Rita. She recently began using email.
Both Marie and John Buckley are deceased.
I visited Therese Heverin in Crosby in 1992, she passed away a few years later.

Probably too early for you. I have a Nora (Honora) BUCKLEY bn c1870 ?Cork. Went to States on the WAESLAND 1897 bound for Philadelphia with father Cornelius. They said they were visiting Cornelius' brother Timothy. Cornelius returned alone before 1901 census but I've no idea what happened to Nora.

Your post stated that James BUCKLEY's father was from Westmeath. This is the first time I have run across any Buckley's from Westmeath.

My 2nd great-grandfather was Michael BUCKLEY and his obituary stated he was from Westmeath. Unfortunately, no info about town or parents. Michael emigrated abt 1841 and was in Newtown, Fairfield County, Connecticut during the 1840s. He married Mary MURPHY and had 3 sons- John Michael, Henry and Joseph- before moving to Sauk County, Wisconsin in 1851.

Would appreciate any info on ANY Buckleys from Westmeath. Thanks.

I'm aware of an Ernest BUCKLEY b1892 Shaw ...he married my father in laws Aunt Mary BOOTHROYD.

Ernest and Mary had two sons ... Fred and ERic who were both killed in action during the second world war

Ernest died in 3 february 1953 ... some time after that Mary stayed with my FiL and did so until her death in 1982 at the age of 94 ...

I don't know anymore at the moment ...but if we are on the same Ernest I'm sure I could find out more from my FiL .

Can't tell you an awful lot more than I have already ... but if you need specifics I can still speak to my In laws who knew him.

He married Mary BOOTHROYD on the 4th June 1914 at Shaw Parish Church.

They had two children Fred and Eric BUCKLEY born 1916 and 1917 respectively ....

Both died on active service during the second world war..

Family history says he had a long standing affair .... from which I'm led to believe there were children... how many and to whom I have no idea ...

On his death Ernest left Mary with crippling debts at the skip factory... it was suggested it may have been due to looking after two homes ... she refused to declare herself bankrupt and had to sell her home and the factory to repay the debtors who came looking ... she ended up penniless and homeless ...

Her only remaining family was her nephew Albert ( my Father in Law) he and his wife offered to take her in sometime around 1953 ...she stayed until her death in 1982 aged 94

I knew her well and she was a very independent lady but she never mentioned Ernest

If you are related to the same Ernest then that can only be through his affair ... my research for Ernest suggests his father was Richard BUCKLEY b 1869 Crompton

I got around to having a word with my Brother in law this week ...he has done quite a bit of digging on his side of the family ...from which "Auntie Mary" hails ...

Yes Ernest did have a birthmark / disfigurement of some kind ...Martin wasn't sure exactly what ... he knew him only slightly ...but his older brother Mike used to go out in the car with him ...so he knew him quite well.

Martin was at their house on Farrar St Shaw when Ernest died ... Alice & Albert my in laws were also there.

I will speak again to Albert when I get a moment to see if there anything else constructive to add.

Mary's father Jabez BOOTHROYD was a local "Character" and not some one you would want to cross from all accounts ... that said Martin finds it hard to believe that in a village the size of Shaw it wasn't known about.

Martin recalls a tale that Albert told ...He was standing Home guard duty just prior to his call up to the Navy at the Shaw / Rochdale border when he waved down a car ( not many about in those days ) ...it was ernest with presumabably your great grandmother Sarah ... Ernest was reported to have uttered the immortal words " You haven't seen me ... right" and carried on his way .

I have put together a bit of improvised info regarding Ernests parents and grand parents if its of any use to you ... but you will need to verify it via Birth and marriage certificate

Many thanks once again. I was going to say I am ashamed to I think this is who I'm related to and looking for, but saddened is more appropriate.
My grandma Ethel(Jan 1907- 1988) did have an affair and subsequently gave birth to my dad, Jack (May 1934 - Sep 2001)
I think this is Ernest.
I spoke to my great uncle Jim Burgess who was about 11 or 12 at the time and from what he remembers the details seem to fit.

Dad never spoke of this. From conversations I have had with my mum, I think this tormented him throughout his life. But what you have told me from your side saddens me even more.
One interesting fact that uncle Jim mentioned was that Ethel's affair had started out through a friendship built on her taking pity on Ernest as he had some sort of disfigurement to his face. Now there's a clue if ever there was one! Would you be able to verify this?
Can I just add that I hope that digging up the past like this isn't causing too much stress to your father in law.

Neither side of my family could tell me much about Ernest. Not sure if they genuinely couldn't or didn't want to.....

I am looking for birth info re Timothy Buckley who was born abt 1815 in Cork Ireland.Tim married Ellen Glassid 26 Feb 1838 at Ballyhea Cork.The children were born Ballyhea and the family appears on the 1851 census living in London.
Anyone have any info re this family?
