Update to query. My great grandfather was
David or Dave N. Buckner. Her was of African American and white...German we think... background. He was originally from MO but lived in Oklahoma much of his life. He married Isadora who may have been known by the last names Horton or Henley, a Freedman listed on the Dawes Freedman roll call, whose birth father was Felix Horton a White man and whose mother was Rose Henley also of OK who may have been black. Isadora and Dave had 9 children the first 3 are also on the Freedman roll call...Earl, Walter and Roy. Walter was my grandfather. I am seeking information on the Buckners, Hortons or Henley's who lived at times in Red Mound and Wewoka OK. I would deeply appreciate any help provided. Please email me at Brenda. Weiss@dtag.com.
Thank you,

Margaret Hutton is James Lewis m. 31 Dec 1865 and not Elisha who m. Matilda MIX 1 May 1879 in Manistee Co., MI.

New inf. found just this week! I find
Elisha living in Macomb Co.1900 but he is married to a Catherine. It is 2nd marriage. Matilda Buckner is living in Wayne Co.1920 in the household of Willett S. Jull and her relationship is listed as sister-in-law. Of course the dates leave some descrepancies but Elisha's mother is listed as CURRENT on the death cert. I found. and he was b. in CAN. The 1920 lists Matilda as b. in WI which agrees with the marriage record.

New inf. always raises more questions but, I hope you can use the inf.

Hi Judy - think that might be Barnabas Kinder Buckner b. 11 Oct 1855 in Carter Co., KY? He died after 1930, probably in Arkansas. I don't know of his being in Louisville, but I also don't have his 1870 or 1880 censuses either, so he could have been there.
I've got a profile at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/2908007/person/-1407406505

If you don't have a current ancestry.com subscription, I can email you more.

-Ben Buckner

Re: John Buckner died ca 1752 Stafford County, VA

Scott - it looks pretty straightforward to me. John died, Elizabeth sold her half, and after that had no interest in it. Susannah inherited the other half, died, and then her aunt Sarah Price inherited the other half. Since the will was written only a few months before probate in 1752, it's rather unlikely that Elizabeth died and then John, in his terminal illness, married a second Elizabeth just in time to die. Since Susannah died in infancy in 1755, it's also pretty likely that her mother was Elizabeth, since she had to be at the very least 3 years old in 1755, and that's verging on the end of "infancy" (7 years under common law). The reason that aunt Sarah inherited the land from the daughter Susannah rather than the mother (or less likely step mother) Elizabeth probably lies in a principle of common law in which real property tended to stick to the paternal bloodline. It's a common law matter though, so to a large extent it was a question of whatever the probate judge felt was most consistent with the principles of common law. If Susannah had died while her father was alive, any real property to which she was entitled would have gone fully to her father, with no interest to the mother. If John didn't specifically devise that property, it would then have gone to his next of kin, his sister, as widows didn't generally inherit a permanent interest in the property in common law. What this does tell you, which may be pretty important, is that by 1756 John had no surviving siblings and none of his other siblings, if they existed, had any surviving heirs other than Sarah (Buckner) Price. Sarah was thus the sole surviving legitimate descendant of their father in 1756.
I'd guess the 10 acres was probably in the slop - maybe the beavers moved.

Ben,

Many researchers always demand a bibliography and multitudes of data source citations, which can present honest problems for everyone involved. Researcher compiler authors are faced with the momentous task of proper location of footnotes and pagination where data matches citation. The point being, whenever an event takes place, the source begins at the place where the event took place; therefore, to cite the physical source location is redundant. If John and Mary married in Jones County everywhere, the source is located therein; Jones County marriage records if such records are extant. If Joe died in Smith County no place, his estate record is located in Smith County estate records, again if the record is extant.

It is not my responsibility to provide proofs and include them if a decision is made to publish data as compiled. If I provide those proofs, the reader or researcher is then wholly dependent on our research … without expending one iota of self-effort to prove his or her family with the exception, purchasing a book.

We agree whenever a … third party public domain source was used, the inclusion of it is expected, and if not included is neglect; however, we seldom depend on any Third Party Sources, and do not use them for any of our primary research. We do not use them because many of such are not reliable, especially those published prior to the mid 1950s. We can cite thousands of purported true historical record accountings that were made up … during the rage when it became fashionable to “do one’s” pedigree in the late 1880s and early 1900s.

Today, the purpose of a bibliography and an incessant list of sources are lost in that, they usually become the proofs cited, replacing personal research to prove a family. What all this boils down to, there are millions of valid hard records in the hands of living persons that own and possess the original documents. They are under no obligation whatsoever to provide a single event data fact to anyone regardless of circumstance and situation. Them who do not agree with these thoughts should think about it, for it is like me asking you to provide me with a copy of your … birth certificate, to include in a book to be published. You call it … invasion of privacy, and we agree. We refuse to invade the privacy of any person living or dead, without the expressed permission of a representative of the person involved if the informative data is not held by an entity that is public domain.

Personal matters and affairs in the Public Domain are public records that anyone can use however they deem fitting; however, the public domain ceases at everyone’s doorstep or office, and wherever their personal information may be in the control of other persons or entities that do not have the right to disclose the information sought. Those of you that do not agree with this about maintaining strict privacy missed the boat. If we locate a record, and then locate someone that allows us the privilege of learning about his or her ancestor, but explicitly denies us the right to disclose his or her or personal identification, and his or her contact information … the decision must be made, by us, to use the data, or to omit it completely.

If we omit the data, the proverbial brick wall stands before all descendants of the family involved that is not included, because no public domain record is extant.

The following quote from page (i) of the Introduction in Buckner Volume I

“We searched for the truth – to honor our ancestors, male and female, for their courage and sacrifices. When solid documentation could not be found, we analyzed the data in hand and surmised connections based on a preponderance of evidence, fully expecting to have to revise some family lines when additional evidence is found. Just as we know there must be errors in this work, we are as certain that there are cousins out there with private sources on their branch of the Buckner family who will correct them when developing their own family record. We welcome all corrections that further reveal the truth about our ancestors.

We are not claiming this work is the last word in Buckner research. We are claiming that, based on the analyses of the records that we have found, this is how our Buckner family came to be in England and how one branch of that family began their American adventure. There is much more work to be done.

We offer you the fruits of our labor, but understand that this is our family record, and it will forever be our family record until … those of you who choose to use portions of it to verify our work … and incorporate the sources and documentation that prove your ancestry. Then, you will have your family record.”

[NOTE: Text separated in the paragraph before this with the word NOTE using … not included in the original Introduction text, and was done to highlight the phrasing used]

End quote

You and one two other persons that bought the books have taken us to task for publishing the two volume set of Buckner Books; however, despite all of our obvious imperfections and a great many errors, the published books are working and more than 800 persons have much different opinions. Moreover, we included DNA Testing; a modern means in our attempt to include genetic records of a type that extends far beyond … hands on onsite and paper records by the thousands now stored in our repository.
You, and the other two disgruntled purchasers of the Buckner Books are demanding total perfection, which is not a realistic notion in our opinion, for nothing is perfect. For you to expect any researcher to locate every single document that pertains to our ancestry is…

If you have corrections that should be made to the two-volume set of Buckner Books, you should publish a book proving all the mistakes that we did make during the compilation of our research.

Do not expect any further responses to any additional posts you make, or either of the other two. Life is too short to argue with perfectionists….

Jim White
OK, Mr. White, the problem I have with your research is not that there are mistakes in it. Everybody makes mistakes. It's better not to have them obviously, but it's not the end of the world. The problem I and a lot of other Buckner researchers have is that _you make things up_. You defend your book by saying that such-and-such records were destroyed, but if you don't have the records, why on earth are you just filling in names, dates, and relationships? Do these things just pop into your head?

Since you won't just be quiet and you keep insisting on "helping" people with this supposed research of yours, I guess it's time for specific examples so people can see your methods at work. One of your central themes is that John Buckner, d. 1695 or so, "the Immigrant," was a son of Gerrard Buckner.

You state that Gerrard Buckner was born in 1603. What's your source for that?

"Gerard married Matilda Rogers on 13 May 1623 in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, England" - again, what's the source?

And finally, your "proof":
"Proof: 11 Jun 1634, Accomack County, Virginia. Gerard Buckner, his wife Matilda, sons William & John, Daniel Cugley and his wife Hannah, Hannah's two sons by her first
husband Thomas & John Savage, and eight employess of Daniel Cugley embarked from Liverpool England aboard sailing ship, Windsong, Roger Smith master April 27, 1634. In addition to the sixteen passengers, the Windsong was laden with ordinance bound for Virginia. The Windsong landed at the Eastern Shore of Accawmacke Island June 11, 1634... the point of landing was inside Smith's Island Bay on the eastern shore opposite modern day Kiptopeke. The ordinance was offloaded at Accomack."

Wow - pretty specific stuff. Now, if I understand this right, you're saying that you have some sort of passenger manifest here, which strangely goes into detail about which husband a passenger's various sons were by. Where is that from exactly?

The thing is, it turns out there are real records pertaining to Gerrard Buckner, most of which completely contradict what you have here. Particularly, there's the 1662 will in which he leaves everything to various cousins, siblings, an aunt, and his mother, who you incidentally claim to have died in 1631, but out of the 26 people mentioned in the will, no wife. No children either. It doesn't mention a single thing about Virginia, as it was probated in London, which is only natural for "Gerrard Bucknor of London, Marchant and taylor." There certainly are a few records indicating business connections to Virginia, but if he immigrated close to 30 years before he wrote the will, why was he living "in the House situate in Bush Lane." (http://www.buckbd.com/genea/gbucknorwill.html)

You want to prove me wrong, then cite your sources, _real_ sources, not the mythical secret vault at the Sorbonne where you claim the Richard Buchner marriage record to be. That's all you need to do.

They were:-

William, Ambrose, Robert, Catherine, Malinda, Hiram, Simeon, Benjamin, Philip, Milton, Priscilla, Elizabeth, Emily, Adeline, Eliphalet, Thomas, Virginia, Mary Louisa, Helena and Richard.

Regardless, the published Buckner Books in two volumes books show ancestry to the progenitor, and we have DNA tests on several males of Thomas and Hannah's family that confirms and validates their immigrant ancestor.

Jim White

Tom - Not that I know of. Over toward Louisville, that's more likely to be Aylette Buckner and his kin. There's a chance that the immigrant Patrick Buckner had more than one son (from the late 1780s Wilkes Co., NC census I suspect there were at least 2 daughters whose names I don't know) or that his son Patrick had some sons that I haven't found. Most of the pertinent info is under http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/2908007/person/-1803381026
I've always been kind of curious where all those Texas Buckners came from, but I haven't looked into it much myself.

BUCKNER Families

I am researching my Buckner side of the family. I have traced them in the U.S. from Arkansas to Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. I do not have proof of the line in England but several sources have suggested England somewhere near Nottingham.
Some of the names are Elijah Buckner, Issac Buckner, John Buckner and Jesse Buckner.

Any information will be very helpful.
I have been looking at the "Buckner's" from southern ill., David Buckner was listed in the 1850 census that he came from South Carolina and his wife Nancy Newton came from Ketucky, their son James Deason Buckner was listed as being born in Ketucky. Would really like to heard from you if you have anything on David, James, Leonard and or Delilah Buckner. Can not find the first name of Delilah's husband.
Nancy Newton is connected with Joseph Newton from Ketucky.
Will share anything I have with you.

Jim,

Thank you for the reply.

I would like further information before I can agree John Buckner (d 1752) of Stafford County, VA married twice. I have ordered copies of the original deeds to review them instead of just abstracts.

Nonetheless, either way, it may not effect the descendancy but it may effect the ancestry of Elizbeth Hubbard, Elizabeth Buckner and the John Bucknershe connections within their family groups.

John Buckner #323 Buckner Volume I (BVI), p165, 204, 243
John Buckner #354 BVI, p185, 264

Elizabeth Buckner #319 BVI, p164, 240
Elizabeth Hubbard #273 BVI, p148, 204.

Are these people the same? What connections need to be corrected? Will Elizabeth Fowke need to be added to the geneaology?

Thanks
Scott

Hello Everyone,

I am posting these to the list again. I am trying to identify/isolate the Buckner families in colonial Stafford County, VA. Has anyone attempted using Deed Mapper to sort out the land deeds and grants for the Buckner family?

What is the impact on the estate since Elizabeth Buckner sold her interest (and all her right) in the 40 acres. Would she have any further interest in her one half (or any) of John's estate? (What happened to the remaining 10 acres of land?) The wording of the last document gives me concern. I believe the original documents need to be transcribed in their entirety and possibly reviewed by a real estate/probate attorney.

Thanks
Scott Kendall

In Name of God Amen I John Buckner of Saint Paul's Parish in County of Stafford being sick but of perfect sense do make this my Last Will and testament.

Jim,

I wish the caveat was shared on the Buckner list before many of us shelled out the $120++ on the Buckner Volumes.

I know much research will have some errors and speculation. I was hoping for a better written and sourced genealogy not a software generated report.

As for the Cornwell data, do you have a record or source. They are researchers who are conducting an exhaustive search of all Cornwell records and have not found this record. Is it in a private family collection?

As for me not being related to the Buckner family, that is your opinion. I have heard you have done this before when you are upset or your research is challenged, you simply cut them out by making a false claim.

Scott

John Buckner (d bef 1733) and John Buckner (d 1752)

Jim,

As you have stated, "A caution to other Stafford County researchers: There are two manuscripts of the St. Paul’s Parish Register. William Armstrong Crozier transcribed both and both contain errors. The lady that published the data for the Stafford County Genweb website did her best to transcribe the original records but apparently they are in such bad condition she had no choice but to use Crozier’s transcriptions for Genweb."

Per your website, "John Buckner b. 1791, son of John Buckner & Ann Ballard - married Elizabeth Hubbard b. 1711 in York County Virginia 1731. This John Buckner died late 1732 or very early 1733 in Stafford County, Virginia. His widow, Elizabeth Hubbard Buckner, remarried ... Zachariah Brazier b. 1710 of Essex County Virginia on November 12, 1733. This marriage record is recorded in the St. Paul Parish Registry of Stafford County, Virginia. Many people know about this marriage, but are using the date of November 12, 1753, and some people are using the date of November 12, 1759 - both of which are incorrect. The clincher for this proof is, Elizabeth Hubbard Buckner Brazier died with a Will in place - The will was probated and proven April 3, Prince William County, Virginia." According to this statement Elizabeth Hubbard Buckner Brazier never died therefore John Buckner was only married once not twice.

The St. Paul's Parish register entries are listed twice once under the groom's name and again under the bride's. It is clear one of the transcribed entries you are using is in error due to their "such bad condition." For you to state one entry as erroneous but use the same entry to support another conclusion is simply bad genealogy.

So you are standing by the new claim: John Buckner (c1691-bef 1733) married 1)Elizabeth Hubbard (c1711-1797) and 2)Elizabeth Fowke (1727-1797) and Zachariah Brazier married the same women after John Buckner's deaths (plural) and it wasn't John Buckner (d 1752) who married Elizabeth Hubbard and Elizabeth Fowke?. The problem is one John Buckner you have dying before 1733 and the other one you state died in 1752. Was he risen from the dead, married, fathered a child and then died again nearly 20 years later?

Any researcher worth their weight will see the facts and know there are major flaws in your hypothesis: that the John Buckners presented are same and both of his widows married Zachariah Brazier even though you stated one of John's "widows" died before he did.

I try to adhere to some research standards and will not base my genealogy on so-called private family manuscripts and family legends or stories. As I have said before "Genealogy without sources is Mythology".

Jim,

I will wait to make further comments on the marriages of John Buckner after I have reviewed copies of the original documents.

I am very interested in what the marriage controversy has questioned.

According to Buckner Volume 1, John Buckner (c1691-bef 12 Nov 1733) married Elizabeth Hubbard in 1731. He was the son of John Buckner and Ann Ballard. She married 2)Zacharias Brazier.

John Buckner (c1702-c10 Oct 1752) married Elizabeth Buckner. This John was the son of Thomas Buckner and Elizabeth Fitzhugh.

But now, since we have learned John Buckner who died in 1752 married Elizabeth Fowke (and per your conclusion, his second wife), his first being Elizabeth Hubbard, which John Buckner is he?

How can a man who died before November 1733 father a child in 1751? Are these two men supposed to be "merged"? If so, what happens to the relationship with Elizabeth Buckner and how does John fit into the Buckner/Colgate equation?

Who are the parents of John Buckner who married Elizabeth Hubbard and did he die before Nov 1733 or in 1752?

Scott

This may or may not be some of my lineage.
William Buckner m. Anna Mustain.
The reason I had thought my lineage must be somehow
attached. My gr-gr-gr grandfather was John Buckner b.1765
married Nancy (Patsy) Taylor in Campbell County, Va.
They lived in Rowan County, NC. I felt that possibly they
went to John's home to be married. It was a long way
to travel in those days. They later moved back to
Western North Carolina where they raised their family.
James Agleston Buckner was their oldest child and my
gr gr grandfather. He was born 1806. I have more information that I will gladly share if you think this
is part of your fammiy.

Re: Virginia Buckner Family Immigrants

Don't waste your money on it. There are hardly any references provided, even for the most problematic and contentious families. Most of the time, he just expects you to figure out the sources for yourself or take his word for it that they exist - the problem is that a lot of the claims are directly contradicted by other easily available sources, and there's nothing in the book to explain how most of the conclusions were reached in the face of this contradictory evidence. The only value I see in it is that it transcribes a few early wills that are hard to find, but otherwise, it's so unreliable that you can't use it for anything. I've personally wasted quite a bit of money trying to confirm what appear to be non-existant sources in the book, so it's no good for leads. Crozier's Buckners of Virginia has a lot of problems, but this book doesn't even come close to the quality of Crozier. Sorry to have to say it, but I can't in good conscience let this go on a public message board without saying in anything.

Ben Buckner

Re: John Buckner died ca 1752 Stafford County, VA

Hello Scott,

I have removed both of my posts on Rootsweb that you responded to because the evidence that you provided (which in all of our research we had not found) proves without a doubt that John Buckner had married twice. The record that caused the light to flash for me follows:

Quote:

“At court held Stafford County 13th April 1756 this deed feoffment from Elizabeth Buckner with livery & seizing thereon being proved...admitted to record.
P 119-122 This indenture made 10th and 12th October 1756 between Thomas Price and Sarah Price his wife of Stafford County of the one part and Francis Hooe of said county...in consideration forty pounds current money of Virginia…by deed of lease & release sold tract 50 acres in St Pauls parish part of 100 acres conveyed by deed to John Buckner by Richard Foote attorney for [Samuel] Hayward which being recorded in County Stafford and by said Susannah dying an infant in the year 1755 the said Sarah Price wife of Thomas Price being sister to the said John Buckner and only heir to his daughter Susannah Buckner said Thomas Price and Sarah his wife now claim land bounded...southerly on Machodack beaver dams belonging to said Francis Hooe easterly on land of Mr John Washington northerly lands of Mr Baldwyn Dade & said John Washington westerly on land of Mr John Alexander Junr.
Signed Thomas Price, Sarah 'mark' Price In the presence of Richard Hooe, John Alexander Jr. Zacharias Lewis

At court held for Stafford County 12th October 1756 Thomas Price and Sarah his wife (she being first privately examined and voluntarily consenting thereto) acknowledged deeds…admitted to record”

End Quote.

The above document shows that the widow of John Buckner was not the mother of Susan. If Elizabeth Fowke had been Susan’s mother, she would have inherited all of John’s estate, and all of Susan’s estate when Susan died. Therefore, it is quite obvious that the words, “only heir” above means that her mother was dead at this time. Confusion arose from the fact that John Buckner married two women named Elizabeth and there was no indication whatsoever that this was the case until we studied the record you provided.

Sarah Buckner, who married Thomas Price, identified as the lone surviving heir of Susan Buckner perfectly rules out Elizabeth Fowke as mother of Susan Buckner, since Elizabeth Fowke’s death at a much later date is fully documented.

In Volume I of the Buckner Book:

Please turn to page 123, person 244 – Thomas Buckner and his wife, Elizabeth Fitzhugh, were the parents of John & Sarah Buckner, their only two surviving children, and co-heirs of their parents (their mother died before their son John in the same year).

Please turn to page 185, person 354 – John Buckner who married 1st, Elizabeth Hubbard, who we now realize died before he did. We did not know that he remarried Elizabeth Fowke, daughter of Chandler Fowke and his wife, Mary Fossaker. Chandler’s parents were Gerard Fowke (son of the Immigrant) and his wife, Susan Burdett – Chandler’s father died before January 20, 1734 Port Tobacco, Charles County Maryland, with a will in place that is lock-proof, and gave the plantation in Virginia, “where he now lives” to his son Chandler Fowke; the plantation located in Stafford County.

Next, please turn to page 240, person 319. There you find Elizabeth Buckner who married John as his first wife … please read the date we show for her death, After October 12, 1756. That is the last fact we could locate concerning Elizabeth Buckner, who at the time we thought was Sarah’s mother and we now know was Elizabeth Fowke, and second wife of John Buckner. Yes, we included John’s will in the book, but the Fitzhugh, Fowke, Buckner as well as many other families had very close interrelations including marriages, and lawsuits. The fact of witnesses being Chandler Fowke, Anne Fowke & John Buckner never raised any warning flags, as the parents of Elizabeth Fowke were deceased, and the witnesses were peers of John & Elizabeth.

So, to repeat the conclusion that I arrived at from seeing the full quote of the document that you provided, Scott, Elizabeth Fowke cannot be the mother of Susan Buckner as Sarah Buckner Price is identified as the lone surviving heir.

The one factor that did not change, our ignorance of John Buckner’s two marriages did not affect any potential or possible descendants of the families involved.

A caution to other Stafford County researchers: There are two manuscripts of the St. Paul’s Parish Register. William Armstrong Crozier transcribed both and both contain errors. The lady that published the data for the Stafford County Genweb website did her best to transcribe the original records but apparently they are in such bad condition she had no choice but to use Crozier’s transcriptions for Genweb.

Perhaps you will not assume so much in the future, and not make accusations whereas it is evident that your interpretation of the facts involved was flawed causing your leap to conclusions that would were not correct.

Jim White

Re: Virginia Buckner Family Immigrants

Our thank you to Mr. Ben Buckner,

We respect his opinion pertaining to the subject of the Buckner Books; however, our Buckner family settled in Gloucester County Virginia, and there were many of them in Caroline County when it first formed from Essex, King and Queen, King William Counties in 1728. Many of our Buckner families were also residents of Stafford County. There is less than a handful of hard record proofs extant for Gloucester County and our Buckner immigrant families, the exception being Original Land Patents - Gloucester County Virginia is one of the worst of the burned out counties in Virginia. Our Buckner families also lived in the following Virginia Counties … as proved from the Virginia Library System Online Website shortly before this response posted.

Burned out Virginia Counties

Gloucester: created in 1651, all county court records were destroyed by an 1820 fire, and most of the records created after that date, were destroyed in Richmond on 3 April 1865. Six, minute books from the nineteenth century and two surveyor's record books survive.

Dinwiddie: created in 1752, county court records prior to 1833 were destroyed in 1865. One plat book, one order book, and one judgment book survive

King and Queen: created in 1691, county court records were lost in fires in 1828 and 1865. One plat book and three mid-nineteenth century Superior Court record books survive.

Prince George: created in 1703, most county court records were burned during the Civil War. A few record books survived and, proving that there is always hope, the volume in which deeds and wills were recorded between 1710 and 1713 was found within the last decade.

Caroline: created in 1728, most records prior to 1836 were destroyed during the Civil War. Some deeds and wills are recorded in extant Chancery Papers, and a considerable number of order books and loose papers survive.

Fairfax: created in 1742, original wills and deeds as well as many other loose papers were destroyed during the Civil War; deed books for twenty-six of the fifty-six years between 1763 and 1819 are missing.

Stafford: created in 1664, many pre-Civil War county court records were lost to vandalism during the war. Scattered years of deeds, wills, and orders have survived, as has an old General Index.

It should be evident that our research was seriously hampered by no extant records in the very places of our Buckner family residence locations in Virginia, which is we know first hand is a most difficult circumstance to overcome.
---------------
In 2006 Mr. Ben Buckner made the following post on this forum....

“Re: Rowan Co. Buckners
tarchon1 (View posts) Posted: 18 Dec 2006 10:16PM

Classification: Query
Surnames: Buckner
See http://www.buckbd.com/genea/buckner.html

The Buckners of Rowan Co., KY are for the most part descended from Patrick Buckner (http://buckbd.com/genea/pbuckbio.html) - where your GGF fits in, I don't know. Lotta John Buckners around.

-Ben Buckner (Morehead State '90)”
------------------
I believe that many researchers would certainly appreciate knowing when Rowan County North Carolina was a part of Kentucky...?

I am absolutely sure that Patrick McBuckner (Buckner) never left any descendants in Rowan County Kentucky, and even more certain that he left no descendants in Rowan County North Carolina. Mr. Ben Buckner gave his website as a direct reference to the lady that queried him about "English Buckners from Rowan County North Carolina." In the lady's query, she specifically identified one surname as ... Eggleston ... surname that became a second given name that descended in the specific family of John Aggleston Buckner; however, the surname was corrupted to ... Aggleston ... from the original ... Eggleston. That took place in Rowan County North Carolina, and we are privy to extant bible records that prove the lineages of that particular family as published.

Because of lack of records lost to fire and two destructive wars specific to Virginia, we opted to use DNA Testing as one definitive method to validate the lineages compiled in the books. As of this date, the books have successfully helped connect more than 800 Buckner families to the proper Buckner Immigrant family. One thing we are sure of, during our research we did not conflate any Virginia Buckner immigrants with the hundreds of later immigrants with same surname, but of different ethnic European.

We make no claims whatsoever about the accuracy of the lineages presented in the two-volume set of Buckner Books, knowing in advance ... we are human, and humans make mistakes. Therefore, the books were published with the intent, as presented the lineages is our research, and any connections made using the books as the source ... remains our research until such time … descendants prove the presented families based on his and her own research and volition after which, the record becomes his or her record.

Again, thank you Ben Buckner.

Jim White

Scott,

Inheritance laws in effect, in Virginia, insured that the assets of a man would follow the law.

If, Elizabeth Fowke were the mother of Susan or Susanna, she Elizabeth Fowke Buckner, would have inherited all of everything of her husband, and her daughter, if he did not provide stipulations as was laid out in his will, which everyone knows how it reads. The problem, it appears that John remarried Elizabeth Fowke as his 2nd wife. Whether he updated his will before he died need also be considered. According to his will, John Buckner bequeathed to his wife ½ of his estate, and the remainder to his daughter Susan. However, if Elizabeth Fowke were the mother of Susan or Susanna, she would then have received all of the property, personal and real, and any receivables of John Buckner, and their daughter Susan.

Question: Why would Sarah Buckner Price make the statement that validated her as the Sole Heir of Susan Buckner, if in fact, Elizabeth Fowke was the mother of Susan Buckner? Evidently, the court accepted her proofs that she, Sarah Buckner Price, was in reality the Only Living Heir of Susan, the daughter of John Buckner. If Elizabeth Fowke had been the mother of Susan Buckner, Sarah would not have had any claim to any of Susan Buckner’s estate.

Proof, will be found in the Estate Division awarded by the court, which according to our research is not extant in Stafford County Virginia archives. Thereof, without being privy to the record of estate division, anything further is speculation.

If Susan Buckner Price could prove that John Buckner had not updated his will after his marriage to Elizabeth Fowke, then it could have been different. However, based on the date John Buckner wrote his will, I believe that he did so, and it was part of a marriage contract made immediately before he married Elizabeth Fowke, and that date would be July 24, 1752.

Elizabeth Fowke Buckner received the 1/2 of all property of John Buckner, according to law, as that is the amount stipulated by his will, although normally allotted by courts would have been 1/3 for the widow dower share. She would not have inherited any part of Susan’s share of John Buckner’s estate because of the stipulations included in his will. I think it reasonable that John updated his will – If so therefore, it is logical to assume that Elizabeth Fowke Buckner received her half, and Sarah Bucker Price thence received all of Susan’s half of John Buckner’s estate.

The one fact that we cannot establish now – If John Buckner updated his will because of birth of his daughter Susan, recorded in the Saint Paul Parish Stafford County Virginia Registry book as being, September 1, 1751, or as part of a prenuptial contract for his marriage to Elizabeth Fowke.

Go ahead and work the land records, and I wish you lots of luck….

The only facts that needs changing so far as the published books in print, is as follows:

1 – Show the death date of Elizabeth Hubbard, John Buckner’s 1st wife as … Before July 24, 1752.
2 – Add Elizabeth Fowke as the 2nd wife of John Buckner who died 1752
3 – Prove the marriage date of Elizabeth Fowke and John Buckner to before Bef 10 Oct 1752.
4 – Use the marriage date of November 12, 1759 for Elizabeth Fowke Buckner and Zachariah Brazier (surname should read Brasseur).

The record as it ends changes nothing genealogy wise, and it corrects the marriage date of Elizabeth Fowke Buckner and Zachariah Brazier to the proper date. In essence the record as now stands does not alter the genealogical ancestors or descendants of any family.

Jim White

Scott,

John Buckner, son of John Buckner and Ann Ballard married Elizabeth Hubbard, daughter of Robert Hubbard and Jane Buckner 1731 thereabouts, at least before his widow married Zachariah Brazier. John died before the famed lawsuit filed against the widow of his brother William - Patience Colgate Buckner Elliott (Elliott was her second husband), and it is known John Buckner did not appear with his siblings in 1732 when the first hearing was held in Maryland.

1.	Zachariah Brazier married 1st, Elizabeth Hubbard, daughter of Robert Hubbard and Jane Buckner November 12, 1733, who was the widow of John Buckner of Stafford County Virginia (remember the dual marriages of Zachariah Brazier to two women named Elizabeth Buckner, and both of them were widows of John Buckner males.

Sorry you can’t hear because I am done typing and responding to long messages. If the proofs changed the genealogy, it would be different, but they do not.

Everyone knows exactly where you are going with this, but to think a Slave Lady named Nan, and concerning two different estates probated more than 20 years apart is ludicrous, as nearly every slave owner had a Lady Slave named … Nan.

Prove the land records.

Jim White
Scott,

This is it. I simply cannot continue responding to every long-winded post you make. I physically just can't do it; therefore, the following is the Quote from the front matter of Buckner Volume I. Nobody is perfect, and we don’t claim to be perfect, and told the buyers and readers that, straight on, without any deception on our part. Thus far, of the several hundred sets now in the hands of Buckner families and allied and collateral families, you are the only person that has kicked sand in not only my face, and several other dedicated researchers who assisted me in researching our Buckner Family. See, all of them lived with Crozier’s Buckners of Virginia for more than 100 years without ever connecting to the correct Buckner Immigrant Family.

To the Readers

“We are human; we do make mistakes, and we know there are probably mistakes in the book you hold in your hands. We have been most diligent in our effort to assimilate many thousands of hours of hard-core genealogical research into an accurate history of the Buckner Family. However, we are dealing with subject matter beginning nearly six hundred years ago and it is most difficult to wear the shoes of our ancestors. This, by itself, can cause misinterpretation of the facts we found. We cannot now fully understand our ancestors, their living conditions and places in life in England or the opportunities they perceived awaiting them in Virginia, which resulted in these adventurous people from all walks of life to leave their homes, embark upon travel fraught with danger and begin a new life in a new world.

Furthermore, our initial focus was to prove our direct line Buckner ancestors; in this effort we amassed a great many records while attempting to sort six generations of the Buckner Family born in England and identify the immigrants to Virginia. In the process, we collected information about other Buckner lines and this book, Buckner Descendant Generations, grew from all of these records. However, some of these records have not been subjected to the same intense scrutiny used on our direct line. Therefore, errors may have crept in on some of the other Buckner lines. Should anyone elect to incorporate data from this book into their personal family record, they should do so only after independently validating our research.”

------------------------------End Subject

Concerning your Cornwell ancestor, John Cornwell, who married Mary Ann Browne; his father was … mariner Peyton Burston Cornwell < note – NOT BRUCETON> - and, Peyton Burston Cornwell died at sea off the coast of North Carolina or Virginia September 11, 1766.

You sir, are not even related to any of the Buckner family in any way whatsoever, unless it occurred after Generation Twelve.

Jim White

Ben, would you be related to Benjamin P. Buckner who was mayor of Houston in 1845-1846. That Ben was a brother to my great-great grandfather, sons of Thomas Buckner and Hannah Burton of Louisville, Kentucky, who had 20 children in all.

Tom Buckner of Texas

I am not sure if this is the same James Allen Buckner that I am trying to research as well. He is my 2nd great grandfather. His daughter is Bertha Buckner (my great grandmother). If it is the same family, I have his wife's family info, at least some of it. I would love to know if this is the same person because there is a huge hole in my family tree. contact me at: citizenxzero1@yahoo.com
