I have a Beni Buda that lived in Rohod, Szabolcs county Hungary. He was born in 1868 and was married to my great great aunt either on my Sebok or Varga family side. I haven't been able to pin point that part yet. It showed that he came thru Ellis Island and was staying with his brother-in-law Daniel Sebok which is my maternal great grandfather, in Dec 1910 and stayed in Pennsylvania before going back to Rohod.

Hi,
I'm trying to trace my husband's family. I have Auguste Theodore Buda (1911-1979), son of Auguste Theodore Buda, son of Auguste Theodore Buda. Originally from New Caledonia. This is as much information as I have at this time.

Auguste Theodore Buda (1911-1979) had a sister called Madeline (d. 2005), and they immigrated to Australia around the end of WW2. They may have had a brother called Stefan, who immigrated with them.

If anyone has any information on these people, or a hint as to where to look for them, I would be greatly appreciative.

Regards,
Leyla

Trying to track down the family of Henry Buda (1925-1999). He had many brothers some of which I know (Stanley, Adam, John). He also had two sisters Adele and Jean. I'm not sure who they married.

They were involved in the bakery business and had Buda Bakers in Bayonne and Staten Island.

Parents are Marcela Gromek (I think) and William Buda (I think). I know both passed away very young

Is there anyway I can get my hands on the documents you wrote about? This name has been a point of confusion and contention for me for some time due to its phonetic association with the Eastern religion and the obvious connections to Hungary.

Useful tidbit from Lanage171 about Charles, Catherine, daughter Catherine, George and Henry
Added by lanagel71 on 27 Apr 2007

The only things I know about this family is that they were in route to America in 1846 because Philip Dormire wrote a story about how he and his wife passed each other in route to America. Charles, Catherine, daughter Catherine that died at 19, son George that died at 3 and Henry that died at 30 are all buried in Skinnerville Cemetary in Williamsville Township in Amhurs County New York. The tombstone are in German (although I have them translated). Neither Charles or Catherin left wills and a Hattie Eberly petitioned the court for division of the assets. Mis Hattie signs her name with an X so I don't know if her name is even correct. No Hattie in this family tree though that I have. In the petition Charles is referred to as Petr and Peter is referred to as Peter Jr.? Buda is spelled Budoe but on the tombs it is spelled Buda. On the tombs Catherine is spelled Katharina and Charles is spelled Carl, ( German for Charles). THey have to be the same people though because all of the decendents names and dates line up, plus this petition has been passed down through the family.
I have lots of Buda info but I would not know if it is the same line without more info. I have a Charles who married Christina Theilbolt they had 13 children 10 of which were boys and would have carried the name. Also a George who married a Catherine Deitrick they have 5 children (2 boys). George and Charles were born in NY. Charles eventually went to OHio. George and family may have stayed in NY. But several of the daughters ended up in Michigan. THe daughter that married into what was to become my family are all in Michigan.

Buda from Arad, Hungary / Romania

I am hoping to find some information about Sarah Buda from Maderat. She was born around 1860. She married Ion (John) Ziter, Zsitar, or Jitaru, (the spelling changed several times). The family spoke of a Sam Buda. I found one in New York around 1910 that was from Romania, but don't know if it's the same one. Any connections out there? Thanks.

Terry -- I haven't a clue as to where in Poland. You have more info than we did. Buda seems to be a name that is all over Europe, including Austria, Italy, Czechoslovakia . . . In Polish it translates to something like "guard house" or some type of kiosk. My Grandparents never seemed to want to talk about the "old country".

I do have a 1900 census that shows Frank as a 23 year old son of Paul and Pollonia. I will send that JPEG image to your e-mail.

I was unaware of the 2 sisters -- Do you have any information on them? Do you have any photos of the Budas? Death Dates for Paul or Pollonia?

You are correct the family name is Hungarian, but much earlier than 1800's. The name means "of the house of Buda", Buda being the brother of Attila the Hun. The family is apparently directly descended from Buda's daughter. My father actually has a complete family history, written by a Budahazy who was a lawyer and managed to chase a substantial part of the family history through legal documents.
