I am familiar with those sources. This is one of my many fascinations with the Budge line. :-D

I agree that Henderson's comments on pages 181-182 are interesting indeed but he only concludes, in his opinion, that this theory is not "improbable". As well, Henderson's cited source, "Genealogie of the Lairds of Toftinggall", only states this theory to be "affirmed" by "common traditon" aka folklore.
Alas, the origin of my most beloved surname remains elusive and mysterious. sigh....
