I realize that you posted your inquiry several years ago. I was just made aware of your post today.

I am the son of Nicholas Lee Couchot and Ruth A. Dumford. Nicholas Lee Couchot (my father) and Glenora Couchot were brother & sister. Glenora Couchot was my Aunt. Glenora Couchot married Irvin Buell. They had one sun, named Robert (Bobbie). They moved to Jacksonville, Florida when their son was about 5 years old. He grew up and married a woman named Ruth (something). They lived in Jacksonville, Florida. Glenora and her husband both died there in Jacksonville of old age. They had one son, named Robert (Bobbie, also). He committed suicide when he was about 20. His parents divorced and his father died shortly after that of cancer.

If you'l like more details, write to me. I had a legal name change from Darryl N. Couchot to Darryl C. Nicholas when I was about 32 years old. I am currently 68 years old.

My Email is: <a href="http://www.colorbat@colorbat.com" target="_blank">www.colorbat@colorbat.com

Violet Buel

Now a Cloistered Nun

In Corpus Christi Monastery of the Sisters of St. Dominic at Hunt’s Point, New York city, on the 17th instant, Mrs. George Merriam Hyde, a widow, daughter of the late Oliver Prince Buel, made her solemn profession and will henceforth be known as Sister Mary of the Tabernacle. The community at Hunt’s Point is strictly cloistered, Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament being its specific note, and the ceremony of the 17th instant marked the aspirant’s permanent retirement from the world.
Among the conditions of life which Sister Mary of the Tabernacle has chosen are an almost perpetual fast, never eating any meat, long hours of prayer, severe silence except for an hour or so of “recreation” daily, lying on a hard board, extentuated by the thinnest of mattresses, and other severe flouts to natural inclinations.

Mrs. Hyde, or Violet Buel, was a convert to Catholicity, as was her entire family. Through her mother’s family, the MacDougalls, she has many affiliations with the army. Her maternal grandfather was General Charles MacDougall. Her mother married Lieutenant Colonel David Hillhouse Buel. Her uncle is Captain MacDougall. Mrs. Buel’s second husband was the late Oliver Prince Buel, the ninth and youngest son of David Buel, Jr., Troy, N.Y., first Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Renssalaer county, and of Harriet Hillhouse, of the Connecticut family of that name. At the time of his death Oliver Prince Buel was senior partner in the firm of Buel, Toncey & Whiting, counsel to the United States Insurance Company.

Mrs. Buel and her two children became Catholics. Her son, Rev. David Hillhouse Buel, S.J., recently completed a most successful term as president of Georgetown University. He is now stationed at St. Joseph’s College, Philadelphia.

(From "Our Parish Register," St. Columba's and St. Patrick's [NY].
October 1908
I have no further information.)
Buel-Norton connections

Hello. I am tracing two Buel's that married Norton's (my mother's branch of my tree).

Jonathan Buel Jr. b. WFT Est. 1729-1755 in Goshen, Litchfield, CT. died 14 Feb 1847 in Goshen. Married Marana Norton on 20 Nov 1774 in Goshen.

Timothy Buel. b. WFT Est 1732-1758. d. WFT Est. 1782-1846. Married Olive Norton on 13 Nov 1777.

Thru Ancestry.com I tracked Peter and Jonathan Norton. But Jonathan Norton b. Abt 1690 has no Spouse or children listed. Agewise Jonathan could fit as the father to these guys (esp. to Jr.) but I don't have the evidence.

Does anyone have that connection.

Samuel Buell b. 28 Sep 1641, Windsor, Hartford, CT thrid wife was Mary Griswold who's 1st husband was Obadiah Wilcox and the Wilcox and Wilcoxson's have numerous connections with the Norton's so all of these families were in the same areas.

I can be contacted at MIGHTYHAHN@aol.com

Thanks,
Jerry Hahn

Henry Buel(l) died 1895, Dallas Co., TX

We are searching for information on Henry P Buell. According to his death notice posted in the December 12, 1895, Dallas Daily Times Herald issue it says that he was born 1839 in Utica, NY and that he lived at 160 Cochran Street, Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas.

We believe that his wife at his death was Fannie and that he had at least 2 children, Ed and Lillian.

Ed (b 1886) married Pearl Inman and Lillian (b 1891) married Arthur Karger.

It is possible that the Henry P Buell that was living in Edgar Co., IL in 1870 with wife Elizabeth is the same person. The ages and birth location are correct.

Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Nikki,

Just a point of interest. My son is Thomas Buel B 1982 in Hillsboro, IL. Which is no help to you. However, my surname Buel was changed from Buol in the early twentieth century, I'm not sure why. My father was Clarence Buel, grandfather was Anton Buel and my great grandfather was Florian von Buol from Davos Switzerland. He immigrated to Missouri in 1848.
