Hello Sonia and Monica,

My name is Michelle Merancio. I to don't know a lot of my family history. The only information I have is my grand father was Nicholas Merancio and he married Consuelo "Connie" Esparza. They lived in Pamona California and had 6 children.. Loretta Merancio now Becerra, Rebecca Merancio now Van Deventer, Lydia Merancio now Brennan, Rudolfo "Rudy" Merancio, Peter Merancio and George Merancio. Like you I find the spread out over California, Texas, Alabama, Arizona and Georgia. My grandmother was born on April 14, 1926 and died June of 2008. That's about it. Maybe we can help each other out. I just started doing research on the Merancio line so I'm very new to this.

Sincerely , Michelle Merancio Hudson

I was facinated by your post.My great grandmothers name was Rosa Henrietta Buelna y Higuera.I know her grandfather Jose Joaquin Buelna y Tapia was with the Rivera expediton and his wife MARIA Antinia Tapia was a memeber of the Anza EXPEDITION,1776. The later was married by father Serra on may 26 1776, at the royal presidio chapel de monterey, alta california. I like to find the meaning of last names ...and at one faire found a "coat " of arms for buelna that had asort of ancient furnace on it? looked very odd,but interesting.my aunt found a story about someone in our family bringing his horse a mare, he called la rebona? 16 hand grey and had a bobbed tail and mane, and got away...with a couple of stallions dont know when this occurred, but does it ring a bell? hope to hear back MARY R aka very distant cousin, ps ive seen pics of la playa de buelna...very rugged and picturesque.

Hi Linda,
Although we have done a lot or research on the Buelna Family
here in California we have not been able to make the needed connections to the Buelna's still in Mexico. Anistasio Buelna is the first of our line that we know came from Sonora to Alta California in around 1775 with the first of the Spanish explorers ie. Portola, Anza and Rivera. In some of my research I have found information that states the Buelna's were also from Chili or Peru, no proof of that. At this time we are concentrating on our California connections. I know that Rafel Buelna was famous in Mexico and has an airport named for him but other than that I have no information to share with you. If you can connect him to our California line we will have much to share with all.
Sandy :-)

Oh wow, this is so cool. I've always wondered if there were any other Buelna's living in the US. My name is Linda Buelna and all i know is that we're related to Rafael Buelna. My dad was born in Obregon Sonora, and the family that i have out there told me that all the Buelna's in the world are related so that pretty much answers everyone's question about if they might be related. I would also like to know more if anyone has a done a family tree on line or something.

We have family in Arizona and Los Angeles. Has anyone yet published a buelna family tree online? Many people mention having large family trees, but I have had no luck finding a published tree. I have begun a family tree on facebook, and I am interested in all buelna family information.

Hello,
My grandfather was Jesse Buelna Alvarez from Fresno (reedley/parlier), CA. His mother, Ramona Buelna was born in Mexico in 1906 and died in Reedley, CA. We believe that she crossed the border with her family when she was around 15 and her father Manuel Buelna was about 60 (born in 1879 in Sonora, MX).
We can't seem to trace the line back any further. We have heard the family legends about being related to General Buelna, but have no way to tell if they're true or not.
I just recently had a child and i'd love to tell her where her Mexican family is from (when she's old enough to understand, that is).
Is anyone else related to Manuel Buelna?

Marian,
I am so excited to get a response in regards to anything about the Buelna's. Bonifacio Buelna B: 1827 D: 11 Sept. 1902 is my G-G-Grandfather and, as far as I know, the seventh child of Joachin Buelna and Maria Guadalupe Gabriela Rodriguez. What I have in my records is also not documented so please forgive me I am still new at this and am limited in my research ability.

I have Jose Ramon Buelna B: 21 Oct. 1809 as the first child of Joachin Buelna and Maria Rodriguez and the information you have just given me make sense with the marriage date for them.

I welcome any advice and corrections to what information I have along with documentation so that I do not taint the facts for the future. I am so interested in getting as much of my families history together as I can to pass along to my children so I feel it needs to be right.
Is it possible that we could talk more? I am eager to learn every thing I can about the Buelna's.

My Grandfather was only able to tell me that his grand parents were buried in Gonzales and that he was born there. I have found the obituary for Bonifacio Buelna but not for his wife Gertrudis Higuera. When I visited the cemetery I was so disappointed to find a workman had taken a tractor and scraped away markers along with the weeds he didn't want to bother with and that the cemetery records are in shambles. I am still looking for a baptismal record for my grandfather but because I can't get into the records I will probably never have proof of his birth.

You can contact me at sandysheddy@gmail.com I am so looking forward to hearing from you.

Sandy :-)

Sandy,

I am reading with interest the Buelna website. I have researched this family for about 30 years. In your list of children of Antonia Buelna and Maria Antonia Tapia you have Maria Antonia Francisca Ramona as the daughter. I have found a Maria Antonia listed with this family on websites but have never been able to document it as fact. I have more on this. There were two Maria Antonia's. One married Espinosa and one Buitron.

Maria Antonia Francisca Romona was the daughter of the son of the above family, Jose Joaquin who married Maria Guadalupe Gabriela Rodriquez. Maria Antonia Francisca Romona married Prudencio Espinosa and had a large family, she was a sister to my great grandmother.

Here is the documentation I have.
FHC Microfilm 0913308 CA, Monterey, Soledad Church Records, Entry # 1299: Maria Antonia Francisca Ramona Buelna child of Soldier of RAZON – On March 11 1807 at Mission Soledad Maria Antonia Francisca Ramona Buelna a child of 5 days was baptized the legitmate child of Joaquin Buelna and Maria Guadalope Rodriguez his wife. The Godparents Cabo Miguel Espinosa and his wife Gabriela Higuera. Fr. Florencio Ybanez (Ibanez)

It is interesting to note that the padrinos were the parents of her future husband Prudencio Espinosa.

Marian Wyman Works

Its amazing to read about names and locations that I had heard about growing up, especially the most known of coarse, General Rafael Buelna and Mocorito Sinaloa. About 11 years ago, my beloved grandfather (Manuel Buelna of Nogales Sonora) and I underwent the task of putting together our family history tree that only went back 5-6 generations, but looked pretty extensive. I recall some of the names being linked to Sinaloa and others to Mexico City, as it seams their service in the military took them there. In more recent years family members resided in Nogales and Hermosillo Sonora. Unfortunately, the entire collection of family history I had compiled was lost and not too long ago I also lost my grandfather.

So when I read your postings I felt there might be some sort of link... After all, my grandfather always said "si son Buelna, lo seguro es que sean parientes". Do you have any mention of a Jesus Buelna or Manuela Buelna (from Sinaloa and later Sonora) in your records? This would definately allow me to create a starting point once again.

I appreciate any information you can provide!

Regards,
LDA Buelna
I've been researching for about 8-10yrs. So, it would be great to hear from you. Take care.
Melissa

Hello Manuel,
I am a descendent of Manuel Buelna. He's my g.g. grandfather. He is the brother of General Rafael Buelna. It sounds like we are related. I haven't really had that much luck finding info on the Buelna name. Just yesterday, I found a sister of Manuel. Her name is Carmen and was married to Enrique Ruiz, but he passed away before she came to the U. S. If you can get back to me with any more info that you found or how you found it we would be really grateful. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hello,
So sorry it's taken so long for me to reply to your posting. I have been studing the Buelna family for about the last five years and I'm afraid that most of the information I have dates before 1860 and nothing much in Mexico. I would hope that you could get more information about your G-G-Grandmother from the Church records in Mocorito. If there is a connection any kind please feel free to contact me at my email address: sandysheddy@gmail.com.

Hello Clay,
I am excited to hear from you and would like to know more about your Dias-Buelna connection. If you could give me more information like dates and places perhaps I can make a good connection for you. The Buelna's had many children and they were interconnected to many of the California Families from San Diego to San Francisco. I don't have much on them before they came to California from Lower California but still have a lot of work ahead of me.
Please feel free to contact me at my email address: sandysheddy@gmail.com.
Hello Manuel & Sandra,
I found both your posts interesting. My great-great grandmother was Ma. Tiburcia Buelna. She married my great-great grandfather Jose Dolores Mejia in Mocorito, Sinaloa in 1862. With the exception of this information, I have not been able to track down any other information on Tiburcia. My grandmother did tell me that Tiburcia, like Jose Ramon, had been born in Mocorito, Sinaloa. Based on this information I guess that Tiburcia was born sometime in the 1840's

Rafael I would really appreciate if you would ask your father for any additional information he may have. I do know that my father Carlos Roberto Buelna gained his last name from his mother. I'm not to sure what his mother's name is but I believe it is Magdalena Buelna (Merancio)?

Hello Moisés.

My name is Manuel Buelna. I am resident in Lund, Sweden since 1981. My father is the son of General Rafael Buelna Tenorio, from Mocorito Sinaloa. Please write to me: manuel.buelna@malmo.se I can send you my particular family tree. General Rafael Buelna was the son of Pedro Buelna Pérez and Pedro Buelna was son of José Miguel Buelna. All from Mocorito. I guess José Miguel was born by 1810? And Don Pedro Buelna around 1830?. I believe the first Buelnas in Sinaloa established themselves as founders. Some of them were with Vázquez de Coronado's expedtition to Kanasas (From Compostela to Kansas and back) The expedition stayed at San Miguel de Culiacán and three Buelnas enrolled themselves in the expedition. Some other Buelnas went by sea to California and founded the Presidio of Monterey, near San Francisco. It could be very interesting knowing who were the parents of José Miguel Buelna born in about 1790? And so on. I believe the first Buelna came from Spain in about 1540? But I do not know it certainly. You can probably help me if you investigate it in Mocorito. Best greetings from Sweden.
Manuel Buelna
Hello Sandra!
So nice hearing from you. I am sure very interested to come in contact with you. I have been in the village Buelna, Spain asking for information about the main root of the family, but the surname Buelna does not exist in Spain. There were some solders from Spain, obviously brothers that served Coronado and installed themselves in Sinaloa after the campaign. They came from BUELNA. I believe they started to use their place of birth as surname when they established themselves in Sinaloa. I still have some relatives Buelna, alive in Sinaloa.
Please contact me! Write to: manuel.buelna@malmo.se
For many years ago I went to San Francisco, California and found in the telephone book a lot of Buelnas. I knew all Buelnas are coming from the same family, but I found it impolite to call somebody you do not know at all.
It could be wonderful to know the Buelna family that founded California, long before the Anglos conquest and annexed the Alta California in 1848. Tell me more about you.
Best greetings from Lund, Sweden. Manuel Buelna
PS. Alcalde in Spanish is Major, juez is judge.
How do you do Sonia?

My name is Manuel Buelna, I'm 52 years old and live in the City of Lund in Southern Sweden since 1981. I was born in Mexico City. Since my sure name is as you see BUELNA I have been investigating the history of my family name. There are two places in Northern Spain whith the name Buelna. I have visited them several times. Thre is a valley called Valle de Buelna in Cantabria, and since the valley has got that name, there are several towns with that name, among others a big town called Los Corrales de Buelna or San Felices de Buelna, not far away from Santander and very near to Altamira or Santillana del Mar (both historical places).

North west of Los Corrales de Buelna, now on the coast of ASTURIAS, there is a very smal village called BUELNA, and since the village is laying by the sea there is a place called Playa de Buelna.

In Northern Spain there are many places with the end NA as in PAMPLONA, SANTILLANA or Barcelona etc. so Buelna follows that logic. the end NA means place but no one knows exactly what BUEL could mean.

The very first Buelnas in the American continent came from Spain in about 1540. We beleive that three brothers with an other sure name than Buelna came to Sinaloa, Mexico as soilders when Francisco Vázquez de Coronado made some expeditiones in North America from San Miguel de Culiacán to Kansas.

Because they came from a village called Buelna in Northern Spain the trhee brothers where known as for exemple Miguel Pérez from Buelna. Therefore they started to use Buelna as a sure name. No one in Spain uses it as a sure name.

They seteled down permanently in The Mocorito Valley in Sinaloa, but now we konw that in 1600 when the Spanish Crown decided to expand and colonize the North Wwest part of Mexico (nowadays California). One generation after some Buelna, as well in the Spanish Army colonized Sonora and even California. Buelna is one of the first European inhabitants registred in Monterey, California.

What I know is that today there are many Buelna familes living in Californa, Baja Californa, Sonora, Arizona, Sinaloa and Mexico City.

My father used to tell me that if some one is a Buelna, is somehow a relative and can be sure she oer he is a descendent of one of the three brothers that came froms Spain in about 1540.

I hope you can find your brothers and sisters. I believe my father is right and both you and me are somehow relatives, I cannot tell you how... Grand father's something...

Saludos
Manuel Buelna
That is interesting you mention Rafael Buelna. The word in my family we are also related to that blood line of Buelna. I have been born and raised in Orange County California. I've been told my father's lineage is near the yaki river. Hence yaki blood. I don't know if that is the correct spelling or not. but I wonder if we could be related.
