ROSARIO "RUSS" BUFALINO | not related - for board info

ROSARIO "RUSS" BUFALINO
04/03/16

Passed away peacefully 11/14/2011 in the company of his family.

He was born in PA and was one of ten children born of Italian immigrants. Russ later moved to New York City and also lived in Detroit. He met and married his sweetheart Navelda. They raised two children before his wife passed away in 1975.

A few years later he met and married Martha Flatley, both members of the NAIM society, a group for Catholic widows and widowers. They shared many interests, both being avid bridge players and dancers. Martha passed away in 2009. Russ always said he was fortunate to have had two marriages over thirty years with two wonderful women.

Russ loved to cook, especially anything Italian. His passion became his livelihood. Russ loved the YMCA pool and all the people he met there through the years. He also had many friends at his regular spot in McDonalds.

Russ is survived by his two children, Russell (Pam) and Angela Negrete (Ron). He will be missed by his grandsons Michael and Todd and two great-grandsons. Russ is also survived by his sisters Charlotte and Helen. He will also be missed by his "step" family, the Flatleys.

Please join us in celebration of Russ's life Friday, November 18, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18400 Kinzie St., Northridge, CA 91325. A reception will immediately follow in the parish hall.
Published in Los Angeles Daily News on November 17, 2011

I am Stephen Galle. My mother is Anne Bufalino of Meadville, PA, her father was Angelo Bufalino of Pittson, who later moved to Meadville, PA and then Cambridge springs. Angelos father was Rosario Bufalino born in Montedoro in 1873, although I question the date, who later moved to Pittson. His father was Calogero Bufalino and his mother was Calogera Tullmello, both of Montedoro. In the late 70s my mother was doing some geanology and we travelled to Pittston where she interviewd quite a few relatives, additionally she got a tree from her Uncle Charlie, who was an attorney. She is supposed to start diceminating the info she gathered next week for me.

To all Bufalino's. I am Stephen Galle, from Meadville. My mother is Anne Bufalino. Her father was Angelo Bufalino who later moved from Pittson to Cambridge springs. He is the son of Rosario Bufalino and Vincenza Baiera. and Rosario was the son of Callogero Bufalino and Callogera Tulmello.

While the tree I have started last month is quite extensive and filled with citations it does get confusing with all the siblings having similiar names.

Look at the tree I have started, I would love any feedback or correspondence. My mom has quite a bit of information and notes that she took back in 1979 on a trip to pittston about family history and relations, but I have yet to download this as I currently live in Europe now.

Hello,
I just saw this mail from 2004! I don't know how I missed it!

I think that we are either related or that our families lived near each other.

I know so little about my father's mother's side. She was Girolamo Milazzo and married Frank Pace or Francesco. Not sure what name my grandfather went by. He was a miner in Montedoro, I think because he became a coal miner in Pittston. I hoe you get this!

Anita Pace

TO: Bufalino family members
I’m Dr. Kenneth J. Stoll from Notre Dame University. I am researching for a book on Rosario Alberto Bufalino who was a mob boss in NE Pennyslvania. I want to title it, “The Gentle Don”. I would like to talk to any living relatives who remember him. He was born in Montedoro, Italy in 1903, and died in Lucurne, PA on September 24, 1994. He lived in Kingston and Pittston PA, his family went to Buffalo, NY when they moved here from Italy. I will be respectful to any family member and to his memory. I would just like to interview anyone still living that remembers him or is a relative. Can anyone out there help me? Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
We are cousins. I believe your grandfather, Charles, passed away in 2010. My father, Charles, son of Nicolo, was 1st cousin to William Bufalino, the Detroit attorney. Bill, son of Salvatore, had a brother, Charles ( married Gaetana, who was Santo Volpe daughter), who was perhaps your grandfather. Bill and Charles had additional siblings Caroline, Mary (never married), Pauline (married Tulumello), Adeline, Gene, and Angelo (Yabo). Nicolo and Salvatore Bufalino had brother Rosario, (Russell) whose children were Charlie (an M.D.) Sam, Caroline and Joe. My grandfather Nicolo, had children Charles, Sam, Pauline, Julia, Mary, and Angelo. I am a physician, 50ish, located on West coast, contact me if you wish additional family lore or have some to share.

Thank you so much. Charles Bufalino's grandfather and my grandfather were brothers and I knew of him but had never met him. I knew some of his father's siblings. If I am correct, I believe that Bill and Gene and Yabo Bufalino, whom I knew, were his uncles and Pauline(Tulumello) was his aunt, among others. My father, also named Charles Bufalino (wife, Salvatrice "Kay" Alaimo),1915 - 1984, and his father, also Charles, were first cousins and I believe they were raised as children in the same "Bufalino" building on Railroad Street in Pittston. I appreciated this information very much and if you are a family member or friend, I would be happy to be in contact and exchange other family information that I have.

Hi,
My name is Ronald Refice and I live in Northeastern, Pa. Both grandparents were born and raised in Patrica, Italy. My grandfather was Giuseppe Refice, and my grandmother was Linda Bufalini. I have been looking for relatives. Havn't found any yet. My understanding from my father was that Patrica is a very small town in the mountains SE of Rome. He visited there in the 60's but couldn't connect with anyone. Would be happy to hear from you.
Angelo was my Uncle. He took portraits of my brother and I also. His wife, Margie, used to do the oil coloring on the portraits, as I recall. There was a sister, Mary, who never married. My parents lived in California and Mary and Angelo lived there for short periods of time. If you have a family coat of arms, that would be fun to see.
Yes, we are certainly cousins. Yabo's dad and my grandfather were brothers. And your grandfather,Rosario, was the third brother. So your dad and my dad, Charles, were 1st cousins. I know nothing of your family at all, but would love to have an opportunity to become acquainted and tell you a little about our branch of the family. I believe that the three Bufalino brothers also left sisters behind in Montedoro, so we also have family there, some of whom I have visited. If you have any interest in being in contact outside this public forum, please email me at JBLibaw@aol.com. THank you for replying.
I think that my sister and I might have stayed with your family when Yabo took us to Pittston. Angelo did portraits of both of us and Mary made us little ceramic egg cups (mine still sits on my stove!). I vaguely remember going swimming at a pool while there and Yabo took us up to Charlie's little retreat which was actually a caboose if I remember correctly. I think somewhere I have a copy of our coat of arms which Charlie had hanging on a wall in his home. Wow, I haven't thought of that is ages! Now I have to pick my brain to see if I can remember where I put it.

Cousin Yabo took my sister and me back east and then to New York City to see the premiere of Cleopatra when I was 9 years old. He was always a character and much loved at our house!

My grandfather did live in Pittston as did my dad & uncles. If he moved to Erie I can not say as he passed before I was born. My grandmother Vincenza was a Baiera and lived in Meadville I don't know about my grandfather's brothers though.

Dear Russ, Sorry, I just replied to you without realizing that you had said your dad was in western PA and named Angelo. So of course, my comments about Russ in Glendale do not apply. I am pretty sure that your dad and my dad were 1st cousins.I think my dad, Charlie, lived in Erie for a short while and worked in the Hershey factory. If you do not want to post you can email me at JBLibaw@aol.com.

I am in Southern California, I remember a Russ Bufalino in Glendale when I was a kid and he worked at an aircraft plant named Menasco. Might he be your father, grandfather or yourself. Also knew Angelo Bufalino in La Canada who worked for Gallo wine and Mike and Nick Bufalino (brothers) in Burbank. They were distant cousins. Another Nick was the son of Sam Bufalino, my uncle, and the last Nick was my brother.

I believe your grandfather Joseph was 1st cousins with my dad Charles Bufalino, who was born in Pittston in 1915. Your great grandfather Rosario was the brother of my grandfather Nicolo. THeir other brother was Salvatore. Sadly, I have never met anyone from your branch of the family. My parents, Charlie Bufalino and Katie Alaimo Bufalino have passed on.
