I have been researching BUFF for @ 10 years, and believe me when I say, it is very easy to get them mixed up. Alot of Peter, William, Phillip, and David Buffs found born within a year or so of each other.
I believe the family you have listed in the 1870 census is that
of Joseph Buff and Fannie Cook. Joseph and Fannie married March 08, 1853 in Burke Co. Joseph was the son of Peter Buff and Margaret (unknown), charter members of Pisgah Baptist Church. Fannie was the daughter of James E. Cook and Mary Polly Cook. Joseph and Fannie are buried at the old Buff Cemetery in Burke Co., near South Mountain Resort
I don't have my files in front of me, but I believe the William you show in the 1870 census married Katherine Wortmam, daughter of David and Kizzie Wortman. It is this William Buff that fathered a son, Isaac Wheeler Buff, out of wedlock.
If you would like, you can email me at
StrutYStuf@aol.com, and I will dig further into my files and see what I can come up with.
I also have Swink in my Buff family line, but have not done alot of reseach on the Swink line as of yet.
