Hoping somebody can help shed a little light on Matilda Hoyle.
I am trying to determine Matlida Hoyle, dtr of Nicholas Hoyle and Mary Howard, is the wife of Peter Buff that was in Co. F 55th NC Inf. Regt. from Cleveland Co., NC. Her is buried at The Buff Cemetery that is located off Dirty Ankle Road.

1870 #10 Township, Clevelan Co.
Peter and Matilda with children Alice age 4 and Sarah A. age 2.
1880 Knob Creek, Cleveland Co., census with Peter and Matilda Buff, with children Mary Jane 14, Elizabeth 12, John 8,(this is the John T, Hoyle that married Eliza Jane Swofford) Margaret 7, Easter 4, and Lovina 9mo

1900 Cleveland Co.
Peter Buff with children Sarah A. 33, Easter L. 22, and Rebecca 17. Matilda not listed so I am assuming she died between 1882 and 1900.

In a letter from a Peter Buff to Capt. Mull, he states his illness and arriving safely home to his wife. I have researched every Peter Buff I can find born between 1835 and 1840. This is the only Peter I can document his wife. Peter's parents were John Buff and Alice Watts. He is the brother of my Great-Great Grandfather, David B. Buff, Sr.

Any hints of information, no matter how great or small, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Vicki Buff Quillan
