BUFFALO, CHARLES (CHARLIE)_On Saturday, January 21, 2006 Charles Buffalo ( Topa Wakanna Sacred Four Directions) passed away peacefully at the Lakeview Lodge Personal Care Home, Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation at the age of 91 years. He was born on April 17, 1914 and lived his life on Tatanka Najin. He was a surviving relative of Chief Standing Buffalo, who settled his Dakota people in the Qu'Appelle Valley near Fort Qu'Appelle. Charles is predeceased by his parents, Chief Julius and Julia Standing Buffalo (nee: Bird), his brothers: Arthur Joseph and Alex (last hereditary chief) Buffalo and sisters, Vitaline Crowe, Emma Williams, and Annette Spencer. He was also predeceased by special nephews, Prisque and Guy Buffalo, as well as other relatives. Charles is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and other family members and friends. A Wake will be held at the Standing Buffalo Community Center, Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Community Center on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Wojciech Wojtkowiak, OMI, officiating and Sr. Bernadette Feist, assisting. Interment at Our Lady of Light Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Lakeview Lodge staff for the care of our uncle and grandfather over the past several years.
