I honestly do not remember corresponding, however I am related to the Buffins of Franklin County Kentucky. I believe there were Jacksons in that line, I have not researched it. My familytreemaker is down right now and I cannot send my charts. When I get this straightened out I will write more. Let me know where the Buffins come in your line. Please do keep in touch and I will be glad to share what I can.
Doris

I found your posting from a while ago and am interested in Alfred R. Buffin IV who was something like a 2nd cousin, twice removed of mine. I am actually more interested in his mother's family. If I have the correct Alfred, that would be Susie B. Ealey, d/o Richard & Julia Ealey. In the information that you have from him does he mention the Ealey family? Do you know if there are survivors of A.R. who I may contact for Ealey information?
Thanks,
James

I am researching a Chesley Buffin in Franklin County, Kentucky. His name shows up in 1820 marriage to Rebecca Dailey. On the 1850 Census for Franklin County, it list his birth place as Virginia. I think he may have been nephew to Giles. I have seen a copy of a Will on a Chesley Buffin( 1772 ) from Library of Virginia ( Wills & Inventories 22,1771-1783(reel 11) ). It list: Wife-Anne, Son-William, Son-Chesley, Daughter-Mary, Daughter-Not Named. Will made in York County. My Chesley maybe son of 2nd Chesley. I have seen a Giles listed in 1820 Census of Virginia Index in Charles City. William was listed in York County. 2nd Chesley may have died ? I do have some Family group sheets on Giles's Family that follows Alfred Richardson Buffin 1st, branch. He is Phillip's brother. I have also seen a research on Giles at http://freepages.genealogy.roots.com/~mysouthernfamily/myff/... . I have not connected my Chesley to this family, but he seems to come from same area. I also have not discovered if he came to Kentucky on his own or with someone. I hope this may help you. If you find any info connecting Chesley to Virgina Buffins, please seen this way.

Hello Doris,
Still searching for Chesley's parents, but no luck. I am still looking for Perry-Parrish Cemetery, have you found. This summer in did receive info from a Betty Mefford on Sulfur Lick Rd. about a Buffin-Homeplace on Turkey Branch. She talk to a Rambo and a Johnson Family from that area. They said Dick Buffin lived there in early 1900s. I walk to the area. The house is gone, but barn still stands. Some of the barn is built with logs. I think barn might have been built late 1800's. Do you have a Dick Buffin in your research. No-one in my family has heard of a Dick Buffin. She said he was blind and lived alone. Following another lead on Cemetery on property of a Billy Long. Will send later.

William Henry and Alice are buried in Frankfort, at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. I can not help with search on bro./sisters. My grandfather had died before I was born. I never met any of William's family. I will ask aunts and uncle if they knew any of their family.
Mike

Looking for info on these Buffins in 1880 Kentucky

Note: Nancy Ellen Buffin married George W. Thacker in Grant county, Kentucky on October 23, 1883. This was her second marriage and I assume that this indicates that her first husband had surname of "Buffin".

1. No other Nancy Ellen Buffin in the entire 1880 Morman census database and all associated spellings in Kentucky or any other state.

2. That this Nancy Ellen Buffin is the same individual as Nancy Ellen Spurr.

3. I assume that Nancy married "Buffin" between June 1880 and the spring of 1883.

4. Nannie Purvis of Bath county, Kentucky in 1880 census seems to be Nancy Ellen Spurr.

5. All Buffins in Kentucky and United States were checked in the 1880 database and these are the possible candidates to who she might have married.

1. Richard Buffin

In the 1880 census he is a single male, age 24, living and working as a farm hand for Margaret A. Sheets family in Peaks Mill, Franklin county. He is not seen in the 1900 Kentucky and National census index when he would have been around the age of 44.

2. Rich Buffin
age 23, in the 1880 census he was living in Joseph Newman family in Franklin county, Kentucky. Looks to be a child of his wife Melinda's first marriage?
Hello Bernard,
Good to hear from someone in France. My grandfather James William Buffin always said they were French. He was tall with black hair. My line of Buffins is coming to an end because of no male heirs. I will be glad to send you info on what I have, if it will help. I would like to know more about the area of Lyons. Send me a private e-mail at dcox36@bullitt.net.
Doris

For the life of me I cannot find an address for you. I do know that A.R. Buffin is dead, however; his wife was still living at the last I knew. I connected with him by going to the library and looking in the Richmond Virginia phone book. Rather that keeping you waiting for me to do that, perhaps you would want to try. I have nothing on his mother's side of the family since I was more interested in a connection to the Buffin's of mine in KY. I have not found that connection as yet. I do know that Alfred R. had a brother Charles living in Richmond and he may be able to help you. Perhaps you could find Ealy's in the phone book to write to. Sorry I could be no more help than than. Good Luck in your search.
Doris

A Chesley Buffin is listed in York County, VA tax list as owning real property in 1790, and in James City County VA owning personal property in 1800. The websites are:

http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~vataxlists/York/1790-ind...

http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~vataxlists/JamesCity/180...

I am trying to track down the ancestors of Giles Buffin and his son Phillip Buffin, of Charles City County VA. Philip and family are listed there in the 1850 census.

Giles fought in the War of 1812, and Philip's daughter Jospehine married Thomas Milton Ware. The Ware's were slave owner's up to emancipation, adn owned a plantation named "Monguys" in Charles City County.

I am a great grandson of Thomas Ware.

If I ever find out whether our family story (about my great or great great grandfather gaining freedom) then I may know whether or not I have white blood. I suspect so, since many African-Americans do.....and don't really care one way or another. I'm just interested because this is all so interesting. Yes, please keep in touch.

One family story is that my great or great great grandfather was the son of a slave owner and was given his freedom. Information I have from the census indicates that my grandfather was born in Virginia...I will dig out the Buffington information I have, because some of the first names you posted are familiar. (An African-American employee in the Alabama state archives said that I should search Buffington as well as Buffins..) You can email me directly any time.
I will find the source that I used, but it was another Buffin researcher that sent me some of that . I remember she lived in Williamsburg Va at one time, and did a lot on the Newton family here as well. She printed a small book on her family and gave me some info to use.
She and another relative used the info to join the DAR etc on some lines, but not the Buffin line.
I think we have exchanged info before a long time ago. I am trying to find my papers etc on Buffin and when I do will e-mail you her name .
Thanks, David

Just me again , I remembered the name finally ! Its Ms. Alice Fobister .... If you have been to the Ky Historical Society you may have seen the book I mentioned. I took the names of the children from her records , as well as the sister of Chesley.

David

Doris, I went and walked that entire area about 5 years ago. My father still lives close to there and he told me where to look etc. I did find what looked like an old cemetery, but only rocks had been used for stones. There was an old house close by that a Mr Mefford told me was lived in by some members of the Buffin family. If we can ever pinpoint the location I will be happy to go back and try agin and copy stones if they are to be found .
Thanks for the correction on William H Buffin line.
David
