I call your attention to a map entitled "Battle of Baton Rouge fought on the 5th of August 1862, MSS. 4873, Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections, LSU Libraries, Baton Rouge, La." Link to digitized version: http://cdm15140,contentdm.oclc.org/u?LMP,20. There is a notation on this map showing the location of "Dr. Buffington" located on the East side of Lafayette Street, on the block between Florida Street and Convention Street. If you have proof of that being the home of Dr. Thomas J.N. Buffington, I would appreciate knowing to add that to files on Baton Rouge history.

ROMBERGER (& variations) All-Family Reunion, July 28, 2012, get your info packet today

Romberger, Ramberger, Rauschenberger, Rumberger, Rombarger, Rambarger, Rumbarger, Rauchenberger, Raumberger, Raumbarger, Rauenberger -

Carry the name or one of the variations? Carry the blood? Did your Buffingtons marry into Rombergers, or vice versa? 9it happened more than once.) If you're a US Ra/au/o/u-mb-a/e-rger by name or blood, odds are about 99% you're one of our kin descended from our first immigrant ancestor, Barthel, so come join us!

The 2012 All-Family Reunion is set for Saturday, July 28. As in years past, we'll be meeting at the beautiful Hill Church in Berrysburg PA where many of our forebears rest. This year we celebrate 259 years of our family in the U.S.!

We've been meeting since the 1980's, and ours is a well-documented family. This year's reunion will have two historians in attendance- the past historian, Dr. John Romberger (also the family association founder) and Bob Averell who took the historical reins in 2010. Bob's found a new branch of our family descending from our immigrant ancestor's second wife, so we have more info than ever to try to assist you in your genealogical pursuits. This is a great opportunity to explore your roots and ensure you're linked too by sharing what you know about your clan. There's also a hard to describe feeling about sharing a room with many other people who are your kin.

Folks are asked to bring a covered dish if possible, and if not, not to worry, there's always plenty of food. It's a beautiful place, and an occasion for fine fellowship, conversation, viewing displays, and walking the cemetery. Also, there's a lot to do in the area so you can make a weekend of it if you choose. Area activities are in the reunion information packet you may request below.

This is a rare chance to have the benefit of people who truly know the family, as well as to stand where your forebears once did, so take a minute to request your info packet and get in touch.

Send an email to rombergerfamilyassociation AT yahoo.com to receive an information packet suitable for both the serious and the curious. You'll learn about our family association, and have the chance to register for the reunion and/or mail in your family info. Whether you go this year or not, it will get you on the mailing list for future reunions. Hope to hear from you so we may get you your invitation!

Greetings,

I am back in the trail of the Blondins. I have come across a problem with dates for John Samual Blondin b.1865-d. 1903. But his son Eromteem was b.1872. Which means that the son was born before his father.

Do you know where I can go to get this figured out?

Rich

Hi, I believe the next ancestor will be Benjamin George Buffington b. abt Feb 1730, Chester Co. PA, who was said to be the Private who served in the Rev. War (listed in Egle's Notes and Wueries) He served with Capt. Martin Weaver's Co., 1777-1778. He died 11 Feb 1814 in Lykens Twp., Dauphin Co., PA. He was buried in Dauphin Co. at the base of Short Mountain there. (Believe in time his body was moved to a Cemetery.) It was his wish, the story goes to be buried near his friend, Hoffman who also served in the Rev. + was also buried at base of Short Mountain.

This from a genealogy by Mildred Thomas of Kittanning.
He was married twice, first to Mary "Mercy" Frissel (spelled various ways) and after her death - married the widow of Albrecht/Albright Deibler, her given name, Catharine -maiden name unknown to me. He died shortly after second marriage. (This information researched by H.E. Buffington, of Harrisburg.)

Hope this helps. Maybe someone can expand on this?

Re: Sally Ann (Buffington) Hyde

I am a direct descendant of Brinton & Margaret Buffington through their daughter Esther who married Charles T. Baxter.
As a matter of fact I grew up in Mechanicsburg, OH. Brinton Baxter was my grandfather.I have made some unsuccessful attempts to locate Brinton Buffington's parents in PA.As you probably know the Buffingtons were Quakers, so it would probably not be too difficult to locate records through Quaker archives in Chester County, PA. It has been on my to do list. The Buffingtons and the Brintons were early settlers in SE PA in the 17th century. Brinton's first name is a big clue for it means he was named for a parent or grandparent. Apparently, Esther and Sally Ann did not follow the Quaker faith. When Margaret Buffington died, Brinton Buffington married Sophronia Morgan, who was widowed in 1869. Sophronia Morgan is my great grandmother on my Morgan side. It took me long time to fully comprehend this. I own daguerrotype portraits of Brinton & Margaret Buffington given to me by my mother. Udney Hyde, Russell's father, was a pretty famous fellow around Champaign County. He was an active "Conductor" in the Underground RR. Hope this helps you. Neil G in WA

Caleb Buffington, father of Pamelia born 1799, would not have been alive during the 1692 witch trials. That does not mean he wasn't a grandparent or other relative. If you have pertinent information that would show a connection between the PA Caleb and the MA Caleb, please let me know what that is. Thanks -

Frist Hannah is not Unkown she is Hannah Olivia Ross. If you look at the 1880 census the name is A Buffington and Hannah Buffington but his parents both were born in Ohio. If you look for more records you will find Hannah's last name and her husband was Alfred Buffington. Alfred the son of Hamilton son of Jacob. They lived in Adams County, Illinois.
Now if you are talking about the Iowa Buffingtons then that Abraham did marry a Hannah.

I have posted a review of "History of the Fire-Lands," published in 1879 by WW Williams on the "Firelands History Website": http://firelands.wordpress.com.
Included in this book is a biography of John Buffington, who came to the Firelands of Northwest Ohio in 1836 where he was later a Justice of the Peace.
The Firelands, or Sufferers' Land, was set aside for "Sufferers" in Connecticut whose homes were burned by the British during the American Revolution. It includes present day Huron, Erie, Ottawa, and Ashland Counties in Ohio.
My post includes a short synopsis of "History of the Fire-Lands" and the Table of Contents with links to the book's histories, biographies and illustrations of the pioneers and their families.
I invite you to check out this interesting biography of John Buffington and other pioneers of the Firelands.

Washinton born IL and Abraham his son IL-MO-AK

Joel Buffington and Elizabeth Logan had 8 children that were heirs to Buffington Island. The following land record establishes their location in 1834and 1835.

The following land record was taken by me from a post by Richard C. Casey.

1834-1835 – Jackson Co., VA deed records. Joseph bought the claims of his siblings in the 150-acre Buffington Island, 8 shares at $300 each.

1. (18 Feb 1834) – Jacob Buffington of Meigs Co., OH to Joseph of Jackson VA.
2. (2 April 1834) – Asa & Elizabeth Buffington of Pike Co., IL for $300 to Joseph of Jackson VA.
3. (2 April 1834) – Richard & Polly Brown [Buffington] of Pike Co., IL for $300 to Joseph of Jackson VA.
4. (2 April 1834) – Reason & Susannah Nighswonger of Pike Co., IL for $300 to Joseph of Jackson VA.
5. (2 June 1835) – Abraham & Margaret Buffington of Jefferson Co., IL to Joseph of Meigs OH.
6. (4 June 1835) – Philip C. & Elizabeth Buffington of Gallatin Co., IL to Joseph of Meigs OH.
7. (8 Aug 1835) – Thomas & Magdalena Dewitt of Jackson Co., VA to Joseph of Meigs OH.

Abraham and Phillip are in the 1820 US Census in Gallatin County. Richard is in the 1820 state census in Gallatin County which was taken earlier in the year. I have found his name in the online index for the US Census but I cannot find him on the page the page. Jacob also made the move to Gallatin County but moved back to Virginia and then to Ohio before moving to Adams County before 1840. The 1930 census shows Richard, Asa and Susannah in Pike County. Richard has 3 sons one over age 5. Asa is married and another adult female is living in the household. The 1840 census shows Jacob and some of his sons have moved to Adams County. Asa and Mary Brown Buffington widow of Richard are also in Adams County. Adams County records show Richard moved to Adams County before 1839 when he was named judge of elections in Beverly Township. A history of Adams County in the Quincy Library lists the children of Richard and Mary as William, Washington, Columbus, Oliver Perry and Evoline.

Washington born 1826 in Illinois married Maria R. Hughes in Adams County, Illinois. They farmed in Beverly Township until they moved to Missouri and then to Arkansas. Washington and Maria had the following children.
Mary BUFFINGTON (b.1849)
Abraham BUFFINGTON (b.1850 d.1925)
Washington Columbus BUFFINGTON (b.Sep 1850) Maybe Columbus Washington I don’t know.
Josephine BUFFINGTON (b.1852)
Richard BUFFINGTON (b.1855)
Philip BUFFINGTON (b.1860)
Douglas BUFFINGTON (b.1861)
Michael BUFFINGTON (b.1865)
Daniel BUFFINGTON (b.1867)
Marget C BUFFINGTON (b.Oct 1873)

Richard’s brother Joseph had a son Phillip Jefferson. Phillip Jefferson had a son named Washington born 1826 in Ohio. Washington moved to Iowa with his father and grandfather. The US Census his occupation as sawyer (preacher). He lived in Iowa and Kansas and married Abigail Dix in Louisa County, Iowa 1851. Washington died in LA, Cal and is buried in Louisa County, Iowa.

Abraham Buffington son of Washington moved to MO and then Arkansas with his father. Abraham and his parents are buried the Hughes-Buffington Cemetery. Abraham is shown in several family trees and being married to Hannah Unknown. Hannah Never Was is more like it. The 1880 US Census of Mitchell Kansas shows A. Buffington and Hannah with their children. If one looks at birth state of A Buffington it says he was born in Illinois and both parents were born in Ohio. I have Author and Alfred Buffington; brothers that fit. If you then query for Alfred Buffington in the 1900 census you find Alfred and Hannah. It you look some more you should also find their marriage record and Hannah is Hannah Ross. This will clear up the problem of Hannah appearing in the census as a widow while Abraham is still having babies with Sarah Hughes.

Eau Claire Leader; Eau Claire, WI 7 Feb 1905

“A Golden Wedding – Mr. and Mrs E. Partlow entertained their children Monday evening in honor of the 50th anniversary of their marriage. They came to Eau Claire forty-seven years ago and are among the oldest settlers here, highly respected and loved by all that know them. Mr. E. Partlow was born June 9, 1832 at Petersburg, Rensselaer Co., NY and when four years of age his parents moved to Bennington, Vermont. When he arrived at the age of twenty years he moved to Massachusetts living there two years, later coming to Batavia, Ill. Lived there one year and then came to Janesville where he was united in marriage to Miss Priscilla Buffington. Three years later they came to Eau Claire, where they have made their home. There were six sons and two daughters, three of whom are living: Mr. Fred Partlow, Mrs. Frank Hayes and Mrs. Eva Curtis of Newark, O. They have five grand-children to brighten their pathway in their last days. It was the intention of the children to invite all of their old associates, relatives and friends to assist in celebrating this notable event, but on account of Mrs. Partlow’s late illness of the past few weeks doctor thought it not advisable to do so. Mr. Partlow's father is French.

Miss Buffington was born in Cattaraugus County, New York 21 Sep 1835. When 18 years of age she removed with her people J. G. Buffington to Janesville, Rock County and lived there four years and was united in marriage to Mr. E. Partlow Feb. 6, coming to Eau Claire in '58 and have lived here ever since. They are surrounded by a host of kind friends who all join in wishing them many happy returns of the day.

Neighbors from all around called and shook hands and congratulated them. The children are good and kind to them and do all in their power to make them happy in their old age. The old lady is very feeble, but we hope that this spring she will be greatly benefited. She is a daughter of the late J. Buffington and a cousin of the late George A. Buffington. The Leader joins in wishing the old couple evey joy in their declining years.” End

This Edward Partlow is a son of David and Hanna Hester [York?] Partlow Rensselaer Co., NY, Bennington Co., VT and Eau Claire Co., WI. Priscilla Buffington is a daughter of Jashub and Charlote [last name unknown] Buffington.

Eau Clare Leader, [Eau Claire, WI,] 21 Dec 1916

Mrs. Edward Partlow

“An old pioneer resident passed away at her home 219 Third Street at 8 0’clock Thesday at the age of 82 years, 3 months. Mrs. Partlow was born in Cataraugus County, state of New York in 1834. When a young lady she came to Janesville, Wis. With her parents where she was married to Edward Partlow. From there they moved to Eau Claire where she has lived for 58 years her husband having died seven years ago. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Hays, one son Fred Partlow, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be announced later.” End

Buffington Family Warren Bradford Pennsylvania

Hi,
My husband is the Grandson of Calvin Allyn Buffington and ggs of Chauncy L Buffington.

My issue is the chart that was given to his family from Ralph M Buffington consistently links Calvin Allyn to Andrew Chauncy son of Luther (son of Preserved). This is apparently not true as there was a Chauncy L who is listed on every document as being the father of Calvin Allyn. Also, Andrew C and Chauncy L were both in the Federal Census for 1850.

Does anyone have any information that would help us find Chauncy's real father. I feel that he might be a grandson of Preserved but might have been a child from another son.

Thanks!
Judy
Re: Sally Ann (Buffington) Hyde

I have a Sally Ann Buffington born in Ohio in 1838. She is the daughter of Brinton and Margaret Buffington. Brinton was born in Pennsylvania (1812) and he died between 1880-1900 in Champaign Co., Ohio.
Sally married Russell B. Hyde and had 2 daughters, Olive and Esther. Russell's mother's name was Olive as well.
Brinton's mother's name was Hester and she was born 1777 in Pennsylvania. I do not know who Brinton's father is yet.
I will start working on this again and see what I can find.
Oh ya, both Brinton Buffington and Udney Hyde (Russell's father) were blacksmiths in 1850 Mechanicsburg, Champaign Co., Ohio.
Sarah Ann's (Sally Ann) sister was Esther Pierce Buffington born 2/19/1841 married Charles T. Baxter in 1859. She named her son Brinton Charles Baxter. Brinton after her father and Charles after her husband.
Good luck. Hope this helps. Keep me posted on any new developments!

Sally Ann (Buffington) Hyde

I'm looking for information about the first wife of Russell B. Hyde (son of Udney Hay Hyde.)

Russell (or Russel) was born 9 Apr 1834.

The 1860 Census shows him living in Goshen, Champaign, Ohio, married to Sally Ann Hyde, with 2 children: Olive and Essa; and a farm hand: Abraham Chichester. Sally Ann would have been born around 1837.

In 1880 he's living with his second wife, Laura A. Hyde (and a 14 year old listed as a servant - Susan M. Harsh.)

I'm descended from Olive - one of the daughters of Russell and Sally Ann.

I couldn't find anything regarding who Sally Ann was. She's listed as having been born in Ohio.

Olive died in California in 1945. The California Death Index helpfully lists her mother's maiden name as Buffington.

I did find a Sarah Buffington who would have been born at the right time (1837) living in Goshen on the 1850 census. She's the daughter of Joshua and Eliza Buffington, both born in Pennsylvania.

I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me if this is the correct match. I don't know how to verify this, and I haven't turned up any other records regarding her. I'm assuming she died, but I can't find a record of her death.

According to a later census (1900) the marriage date for Russell and Laura is 1872, so Sally Ann/Sarah must have died sometime between 1860 and 1872, but I don't know when.

Thanks for any assistance!

Re: Susannah Buffington Lykens Valley and Daniel Plyler

I'll try to help you, but need more data, if you have it, about this Susannah. Just to let you know, the one who is the daughter of Levi was married to a Daniel Weaver. I don't have the Hoffman Church record book (wish I did), but I'm a descendant of that Hoffman - Buffington line that migrated from Lykens Valley, Dauphin County, to Jefferson County. I'll take a further look at all the stuff I have. Do you have anything else to go on? I know a Plyler researcher and have a disc from the preeminent Buffington expert. (won't put it online; it's someone else's work) and I can check it for your folks. Contact me soon.
