Joe, I share your emphasis on validated documentation in genealogical research, but I do think there is another "link" between DeMarquis Buford and the other Buford line of Bedford County, VA. As you know it was quite common in early, sparsely populated Bedford County, VA for multiple members of one pioneer family to marry the siblings of another such family, e.g. the Buford/Early, Buford/Otey, Buford/Scrugg's families' connections. The DeMarguis Buford/Mary Ann Haynes marriage you cite is mirrored by another Buford/Haynes marriage of Bedford County cited in The Buford Family History (both editions, 1903 & 1924): Nancy Buford (1795-?) m. Dr. John Haynes and subsequently moved to Iron Mountain area of Missouri (1903, p.29; 1924, p.42). The family name connection and the fact that both families moved to Missouri is suggestive of a more direct family link.
