Hi John.
Just been reading about the Buglass family on your post, but unfortunately some of the information is not correct. Perhaps I can clarify. It is not Isabella Buglass that was Mons sister ,her name was Rebecca and was was known as my Aunt Becca and she was married to Billy Edwards who was a sailor.
I think you are accurate with the rest of the information.

Stephen Buglass

Hi Cyril, i read your wife's family tree with great interest given that it is the same as mine from Adam back. Here is my line of direct descent starting with me:-

Julie Anne Guthrie 1964 -

James Buglass Guthrie 1937 -2003

John Guthrie, Shoemaker, Selkirk 1911 -2003

James Buglass Guthrie, Shoemaker, Selkirk 1877/8 - 1954

May Buglass of Coldingham 1855 -1890 had child with Archibald Guthrie, Shoemaker

James Buglass born about 1819 m to Christian Younger

William Buglass m to Marion Harrison

James Buglass b 10 jan 1770 m to Jane Calligo or Clark

Adam Buglass b 10 june 1735 m to Elizabeth Shirely

The rest is as per your wife's tree.

Hope this is of some interest, i don't really have much else. Obviously the Buglasses are many and confusing ( did they all have to have the same names?!)so it's nice to connect with a tiny branch of them.

Julie

Hi there,

I am from New Zealand and am wanting to get in contact with any family of my grandfather Alexander Buglass (sorry, I'm not sure what his middle name is). He passed away when my father, Kimber, was about 16 - so that would make it about 1975. He moved to NZ after the war, and met my grandmother Jean (nee Kemp), and had 3 children - my dad and my 2 aunties. Would be great to hear from anyone - I've only ever known 6 people with my last name here in NZ, so it would be good to finally get in touch with close relatives that are living in the Scotland/anywhere in the UK and US.

Thank you
Rochelle

Hello again. I've been doing some sleuthing in the Scottish registers to see if I can link the two Buglass families. So far, no luck. This is what I have found so far:
Thomas Buglass was born 1869 in Whitsome, Berwickshire. His parents were Alexander Buglass, a Ploughman, and Helen nee FAIRLEY. Alexander and Helen were farm labourers at various places in the Coldingham area of Berwickshire. Alexander and Helen were married on 17th January 1845 at Lamberton Toll, which was an "irregular" marriage similar to those conducted at Gretna Green. Their daughter, Helen, was born in 1855 so her birth registration gives a great deal of information about her parents. Alexander was born on 3rd April 1825 at Cockburnspath, the son of William and May nee HARRISON - I haven't been able to find their marriage so far. Perhaps your relative could confirm this information. From what we know so far, it is becoming apparent that this Buglass family does not link to Caleb Buglass who was born in 1738 in Berwick, although his great-grandparents, Stephen and Elizabeth nee CHRYSTENSON were married in Cockburnspath in 1666 so there may be a link further back. Ruth.

Hi Ruth

Managed to gain more information, Great Grandfather was a Thomas Buglass who worked on a farm near Coldingham just up the coast from Berwick. He married a Mary Fish in 1891 who worked on a farm called Lintlaw which is near Chirnside (where my parents still live), coincidemtally Lintlaw is 3 miles from the farm where I was born and was the location of my first School !!. Not that my family is unadventurous or anything !! Si in short, I do not think I have any of that royal blood !!

Hi Ian

Do you have details of your Buglass grandparents? My husband's Buglass family doesn't start until you get back to Barbara born c1797 in Berwick. If you can provide some ancestral information to the mid-1800s we may be able to make a link. If you can link to Caleb Buglass who married Rachel Johnston in 1762 then you have a lot of royal ancestry!

There are links with Cockburnspath, but I think that is through a marriage to a Chrystenson.
Hi,

Please be advised that the photo that I sent you was of Simpson Buglass and Catherine Buglass (nee Hutchison) when they were on holiday in Canada during the 1950's.

Simpson was born in 1889 and died in 1961. Catherine was born in 1893 and died in 1963

I had a look at your site and believe the simpson buglass you have attached the photo to is actually the father of Simpson in the photo. This Simpson Buglass married a women by the name of Jessie Joiner.

For more info please see our site at

http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-42312971/lyons-ba...

If the Buglass's do not appear please use the search engine on the left of the page to find them.

I hope this information helps and that I can be of more assistance in the future.

Just a quick question though. Do you have royalty in your line? There seems to be a lot of lines going back over 800-900 years.

I am jealous!!

Keep up the good work

Cathy

Annie Dorothea Buglass - Sunderland to Tasmania

I am seeking the family of Annie Dorothea Buglass b. 1850 in Sunderland. She married Joseph Pyke, presumably in Australia, although I am not sure yet as I am still checking the records. She died in Ballarat, Victoria in 1910. Annie & Joseph had 13 children, one of whom, William Edward Pyke was my husband's grandfather.
I am also unable to locate her immigration records.
Many thanks
Catherine

Hello Joan

Sorry I haven't replied to your posting before this - have only begun the task.

I believe we have a link through David Buglass and Mary Herriot (father James).

As I see it:

David's parents were Peter and Alison, nee Martin

David and Mary had I think 4 children one of whom James (b. c 1819) was my gg grandfather.

James married Jessie Hay, one of their children was James (b. 1847) was my g. grandfather.

James (great grandfather) married three times:

1. Mary Pringle, daughter Mary c 1869. Mother Mary died approx. 5 weeks after the birth.

2. Julia Forsyth, my g grandmother. Daughter Julia (grandmother) born 1881, Jessie b. 1883 and a stillborn child in 1885. Julia died approx 12 days after the birth.

3. Helen Edie - 4 children - Helen, James, Isabella, Robert.

Was interested in your comments re the Charge of the Light Brigade and the Crimean War. Amongst my mother's family treasures was a medallion, badly corroded. You can just make out names such as Balaclava and Coldstream guards?

Love to hear if there is a connection.

Kate
Canberra

I'm not sure where my Thomas c1820 was born. The 1841 census said 'in the county' [Berwickshire], 1881 said Ayton, Berwick but all the others said Gladsmuir, East Lothian/Haddingtonshire. However I have been unable to trace his birth. Whether this is because the records are not there, or Buglass/Bookless was written in another way, or he wasn't baptised, who knows!
There were several families of Buglass/Bookless in the area but I cannot find any link with mine, sorry.
thank you for replying so quickly to my email it's so exciting to make contact.I have some additions to give you re your tree.Richard Turner was born 1846 and died 1905 when he was working as a coachman in Newcastle,he was the son of William Turner 1815 to 1889 working as a farm labourer around Belford and Bamburgh in Northumberland, Richards mother was called Mary (no maiden name)who lived 1811 to 1849 and after she died William married Isabella (no maiden name) Iam interested in you having Jane Renton as David Buglass s wife I have her name as Jane Paterson so I will need to follow that one through, the father of David was a James Buglass born Ayton Scotland 1791 who married Margaret Nisbet also born 1791 in Ayton.James parents were Peter Patrick Bookless b 1751 Scotland and Janet Cow b 1755. I have a link which seems to suggest that we may be descendants of William the Conquerer and Robert the Bruce but that needs more research. To return to Hannah b1891 d 1943 she married Thomas Robson Brown and had 4 sons and 1 daughter they were Richard Henry b1909 Williamson Turner b1911 Thomas Robson 1913 to 1948 (my dad) Leonard and Alan because she died before I was born I only have 1 small photograph of her and when I get it scanned I can certainly give you a copy and I would be interested to see a photograph of Margaret. My dad died when I was a baby so I didn't have much contact with his side of my family so any pictures would be very welcome. Ihave the names and dates of Richard and Williamsons children if you need them.Lovely to have made contact we must keep in touch.

I have only traced her family back to David Buglass and Jane Renton. If you have information beyond them, I would be delighted to have it. I also have absolutely no information on Richard Turner's family. I'd like to have Hannah's branch to add to my tree, and will be happy to reciprocate. I don't have any info on siblings, but I do show record of 8 children based on 1881 and 1891 U.K. census records.

I'm not aware that Williamson did come to America and I don't have a date of death. Her daughter Margaret, my grandmother, came to America through Ellis Island in 1910 while still married to her first husband, Joseph Cragg, and I do have records on that.

I seem to recall that Margaret made some trips back to the Northumberland area. I believe my dad said it was to see her mother, but I could be wrong. A 1927 passport indicated that she was visiting 93 Denmark St., Newcastle on Tyne.

I have a picture of Margaret that I'd be happy to scan and send. If you have a picture of Hannah, it would be interesting to see if the sisters looked anything alike. I believe that Margaret was around 8 years Hannah's senior.

Your family tree cousin,
Condell Keast Garden

I have traced back the family and can send you that information if you still need it. Can you tell me when Williamson Turner died and how she happened to be living in America

There are only three men called Alexander BUGLASS in the 1901 Census -

b: 1866 Berwick-on-Tweed NBL. Living in Berwick-on-Tweed NBL
b: 1825 Scotland. Living in Carham NBL
b: 1880 Scotland. Living in Lemmington NBL.

Names run in families - there is an Anthony BUGLASS in the Methodist Ministry - it might be worth contacting him.

Cyril
If you would be prepared to send me the original I would be very grateful or else a scan would be just as useful [not knowing where you are I wouldn't want to presume of postage costs]. Rather than provide my address here where others might see it can we establish contact via email initially? My mail address is ian.bertram@btopenworld.com

Look forward to hearing from you.
