John Bennett Buhler- is the son of John A. Buhler and Annie R. McEwen. b. Ocean Beach (Belmar) May 11, 1876. He married Catherine E. and had six children. Robert Cyrus Buhler was his father's brother. Check the census records. John B. was my grandmother's cousin. I beleive his one son Paul was a butcher in town. j

Hi I'm in Devon UK where there are many Whiteways and I am searching them over the world. I have found a William Gordon born 1899 marr Katherine Kromer in 1927 the son of William Whiteway b1857 and Ada b1872. I think other children were Ethel 1884, Lily 1886, Frank 1888, and Wilfred E. in 1910. Any good?

Am finding it very difficult in USA and Canada due to lack of records. Would be keen to keep in touch. triciaw@freenet.co.uk
Tricia

Sorry :/

Anyways, he was in Vancouver with Acroplane in 1933, the letter is dated and postmarked from there in 33. I'm not sure if you are the one who posted "Sorry, wrong Gordon" or even if you are still active here, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks, Alexandra

Hi! Yes, I'd love to compare notes on my Buhler family with you. My info is below:

My maiden name: Alice Louise Buhler
My father: Walter Carey Buhler
My grandfather: Walter Gaspard Buhler
My great grandparents: Gaspard Amos Buyler and Louise Agatz
My great-great grandparents: Madelaine (Lena) Hillermeyer and Gaspard Buhler. It is my understanding that they immigrated from the Alsace area of France/Germany. It was France then and is Germany now.

I don't have a John Buhler that I'm aware of. But my grandfather's parents owned a hotel in Monmouth County and it fell into the sea at some point.

I have a cousin Don Buhler (who's grandfather was George Buhler) that lives near Long Branch.

Most of my ancestors were from Long Branch, going back to the 1800's or before.

Do any of these names wring a bell? I can give you access to my tree if you aren't able to look at it.

Best,
Alice

My email is: alice.crandall@gmail.com

John A Buhler was my Great Grandmother's brother. I still maintain a home at the Jersey Shore in Bay Head,Ocean County though we are presently at our Georgia home. I do have information on the Buhler family. Magdeline(spelling varies), John's mother was born in German Twsp, Adam's County, PA in 1814. I have little on Cyrus. Last shown in jail in Strasburg,PA and was a chainmaker, 1850. No further info on him.The family lived in the town until at least 1870. Sallie went to Nashville, Tenn where my grandmother was born; then to Philadelphia before joining John in Belmar (Ocean Beach)I would send you a copy in either disc for Family Tree or hard copy. Letme know. JJW

Buhler was the son of Magdalene and Cyrus Buhler, and owned Buhler's Pavilion. I would love to compare. Reside in Monmouth County.

I don't have any Buhlers in Erie County, but I can tie Fix and Marthia families (all from Buffalo area) to a Maria Buhler who married Matthias Fix around 1692 in Schnellingen Bade Gernmany.
I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have a record of a Maria Buhler that married a Matthias Fix on July 14, 1692. Matthias is said to have been born (and died) in Schnellingen Baden around 1670 and was a carpenter. One child listed as Johann Fix who married a Madgalena Hofmann around 1748. If this sounds familiar of if anyone has any additional information about this line, please let me know.

Jen

I have a friend in Belmar and she is a history buff. She has published two books on Belmar's history and both contain pictures of Buhler's. I am interested, because my grandfather's name was Matthias/Mattheson Buhler until he "Americanized" it to Madison James Beeler, after becoming a citizen. I have her second book which shows a late 1880 picture of 5 men relaxing in front of Buhler's Pavilion which at the time was at the foot of Tenth Avenue. The writing on the side of the building says " Buhlers Boating, Fishing Crabbing, Oysters, Clams and Crabs for Sale. I don't have her first book, but have e-mailed her asking for more information on these Belmar Buhlers. Please e-mail me if you want to see the picture I have. I can scan and send if she gives me permission.

MATTHIAS BUHLER/MADISON BEELER

Mathewson/Mattaeus/Matthias Buhler, b. 1827, Baden, Germany left his family home at age 24. He is listed in Vol. 1 of Germans to America as sailing on the Ship Robert Center from Le Havre, France to New York City, arriving on May 24, 1851. The Le Harve port was often used by Baden residents as it was the closest port. The listing indicates "Matt. Buhler, M, 24, Germany". Another listing indicates "Fried. (probably Friederich) Buhler, 28, M, Schwarzburg, Germany also sailed on this voyage. There is no indication that Mattaeus and Friederich are related.

On September 15, 1856 he filed the Declaration of Intention (to become a citizen) in Porter County, PA. The intention states he was 29 years old. On September 12, 1859, he was admitted as a United States citizen at Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania and adopted the English spelling of his name. His naturalization papers state he emigrated to the U. S in 1851, thus verifying he was 24 years old when he arrived. Mr. Moses Clement verified his time in the United States. He "Americanized" his name to Madison James Beeler.

I am looking for parents and siblings. They may or may not have emigrated to the US. Family lore says he married in PA but his wife died in childbirth and he left the child with wife's parents and went to Wisconsin. I would like to verify this info if possible.

Buhler 1800's Erie County, NY

I am looking for information on the Buhlers in Erie County, NY-the Buffalo area- specifically Julia Buhler. She was born in 1844 and married John Bleyle, I am assuming in the early 1860's as their first child was born in 1862. She died in 1920. On the 1920 Census she was listed as being from Switzerland, but on another Census she was listed as being from "Germany".

Christine

I am still searching for a BUHLER connection to my family lineage. Can any one help?
George Buhler ROGERS (1867-1899). He lived in Burton, Adams County, Illinois and died in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri. He was the son of John M. WARDELL (alias John M. ROGERS) and Elizabeth Caroline GOLLIHER (surname spelling varies). According to military pension papers for the Civil War, John, was born abt.1839 in Syracuse, New York and may have died abt. 1878 in Natchez, Miss. He served in the Company G, 2nd New Mexico Inf. and became a Sgt. Major for the Union side. Elizabeth, John's wife was born abt.1848 in Rock Island, IL. She was the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth MURRAY GOLLAGHER. Patrick & Elizabeth married in Rock Island, IL in 1848. Their parents had to sign for the marriage. Patrick's father was John GALLAHER of Warsaw, Hancock County, IL. and Elizabeth's mother was Miranda MURRAY of Rock Island. IL., but no husband signature was on the document nor any name of husband. So my Miranda was married to a MURRAY but as we know that was not her maiden name. There was talk that and even on several census we have found it states she was born at sea and was of German decent none of which has been confirmed. Miranda was born either in Germany or at sea coming to America according to census records.
Other children of Patrick & Elizabeth GOLLAGHER were:
James born abt 1845 IL
William born abt. 1853 IL
Michael born abt.1855 IL
Clara Ann born abt. 1858 IL. married John BUCKHEIT or BUCHHEIT 1872 West Quincy, Marion Co. MO. Divorced 1874 in Quincy, Adams Co. IL.

Thank you,
Judi Gilker
PS. John M. ROGERS and his wife, Elizabeth Caroline divorced in Quincy, IL in 1874. Elizabeth C. married William E. LANE and lived in Hannibal, Mo. She was nicknamed "Granny LANE".
Although
in a genealogical book her name was
incorrectly reported as Sherer. Could
this be Maggie?

Have you gotten a chance to examine
the cemetaries in Neptune or Monmouth
co? I believe there are many of these
buhlers burried there.

Ian

Hi All!

Don't know who I am posting to since many
times I try to contact people my email
gets bounced back.

Robert. George was my great grandfather!
He did indeed run a butcher shop. I didn't
know that it was in Longbranch though!
His daughter (my grandmother) met her
husband whose family lived in Longbranch!!

At my mother's house there is more info
on him. He was in the Spanish American
war btw.

George and Lizzy were just some of the
children of Robert C., Robert A. was another
sibling who moved out west to Indiana
and became a defense attorney! (Fort Wayne)
He was also a circus strongman apparently
and was a very interesting person. Also there
was a peter buhler and paul. I don't know their
details but did have contact with a woman who
was a descedent of one of them.

Robert C. (The father) apparently was a entrepenur
and in the earlier part of the 20th century built a
pavillion in Belmar, Monmouth Co., NJ! It was
called Buhlers pavillion and had a filling (gas) station (Which
was very rare), an ice cream parlor and a boat shop.
It stood for a while but eventually was torn down.
A casino was built on the land in the 1960s...

I heard rumors from my mother that the Buhlers "escaped"
Amish country in PA. They were part of a much larger
family but instead decided to break away. I do not know
wheather this is true or not though...

Ian Mason

Anna Buhler (1811-1887) Jefferson County, Madison Township, Indiana

I am doing some research on a family member that arrived in Indiana from Switzerland around the 1820's/1830's. Louis von Büren who changed his name to Lewis van Buren married one Anna Buhler in 1830. Both Lewis and a Christian Buhler which I assume to be her father are both on the 1830 and 1840 Census lists for Madison Township. I was wondering if anyone had any additional information about Christian, Anna or the Buhler family.

A Catharina Buhler married Johann Matthaus Oreans (Orians)and gave birth to (among others) Johann Hyacinth Orians who married Anna Ringholz - at least that's what my research is telling me. I'm looking for more info on Catharina.
