I have a Robert Buick in my family tree born on 4th;September 1883,in County Antrim, N.Ireland.
Father's name James Buick Mothers name Margaret
maiden name Mcclure. Robert had a sister Martha b.1880.
brothers, William,Samuel,Joseph,and Fredrick.

Hi,

John Buick is my second great grandfather. I'm in the process of getting a copy of the family bible from my Aunt on Kangaroo Island as I believe goes further back. However I would welcome any information.

Parents were: John "Jack" BAILEY and Elizabeth BRASS
Grandparents: Richard BAILEY and Susan BUICK/BEWICK
Robert BRASS and Sarah BOWRAN
Susan Buick/Bewick was born abt 1812 in Chester le Street, Durham County, England and she died abt Oct 1889. If anyone has run across a Susan Buick/Bewick in their research I would like to hear from you as I have only this little bit of information on her.

Edmond Buick

I am searching for information about an Edmond Buick who married a Edna Edna Erle Ashby born July 1894 in Indiana. He would have been born about 1870 to 1890 and the marriage would have been after 1918. There was an Edmond D. Buick 1877 in Vigo county Indiana in 1930 census. I don't know if this is him.

I am searching for any connection with an Allison Buick from Scotland. Possibly m. John Sime, had 2 d and 1 son (Christina, Jean and John). John b. 12/13/1901 in Dundee. They lived at 46 Kemback St. Allison may actually have been Alice Robertson, but my mother is named Allison Buick after her G-m, and my daughter also is Allison Buick after her G-m. My g-f (John b in 1901) immigrated to the US in the 1920s. I believe his sisters married an Eirce and a McHattie. Very difficult to track down details on his parents. Any help would be appreciated! Replying to your email date 5 Feb 2003. I am replying for Edward (Ted) and John Buick from Melb Australia. They are descendants of James Buick who married Agnes Robertson. Also John Buick married Frances Filmore. John Buick and Frances died at Kangaroo Island Australia. They appear to relate to some of the names you have mentioned in your email.

Thanks, have not given up hope just yet it's just a family puzzle that may take time to solve ie Agnes had a son to someone else the son was called David Amos (searched under Amos not found anything) plus there is a family rumour that William Henry Buick changed his name to join the army (can't think why) but I'm sure I'll solve it.

Steve, just because you can't find a marriage record on Scotland's People, it doesn't mean they weren't married. Quite a few parishes have gaps in the records, and there were others which were in such poor condition that they were unable to be scanned. There is a section on the website which lists the records available for each parish, so you could check that out.

There were also various forms of marriage in Scotland, all of which were / are recognised under Scots law, but not necessarily recorded. If they claim to have been married then they probably were!

scotlandspeople.gov.uk is without doubt the best site and although it is not free, it works out at about $2:00 to view any certificate. Broad single name searches produce mush to think about and I find it well worth the money. 30 credits are purchased by credit card on a secure line at six pounds sterling per set. Careful use of the site reduces costs. Do NOT search for single names, that uses a credit up. It is much better to have a full page of possible names for the same credit. Hey! I am a Scot, my money is worked for.

Ah well, keep my post in mind. Age at death can sometimes be inaccurate. The informant could be a son-in-law or grandchild who was not sure of the decesed's exact age. If you get the death certificate and his father was Stephen Valentine let me know, I can provide a whole family tree.

I have a William Henry Buick. born 13 Nov 1875 in Arbroath (son of Stephen Valentine Buick and May Ann Smith). I'm assuming you don't have your William's death certificate?

You can look this up yourself and print off the Certificate from the fee-paying site scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Unfortunately there is no free look-up facilities in Scotland..

Hi Jill,
I haven't looked at the notice board in quite a while and I don't think I've seen this message before. You located my Grand father's sister, Elizabeth. Granddad was Nicholas Buick born in County Antrin N.Ireland, his dad was Robert Buick, married Martha White in 1850. Robert's dad was John Buick and that's all we know about him. I have a feeling he was the one that came from Scotland as we know we came from there to Ireland.

The John & Martha Buick you refer to were my Gt-Gt-Gt-Grandfather. I know of three children John, Robert & Martha. I am not aware that any of their children went to NZ. If you have such info I would be interested.

Hi Jill. Not much info coming forward but have been given my gt-gt-grandfather-in-law as being John Buick b. 1784 d 30 Jul 1852. His wife being Martha ? b 1787 d 10 Apr 1875. I noticed you had an entry in the NZ Geneology Mag for info - did you have any luck? There has to be a connection somewhere - if only we could just find it!!!!!!!!!

Jill. I am awaiting from Ireland via post a list of my John's children so as soon as it comes I will be in touch with you to see if your John is included. If you think he was born between 1800 - 1820 it is a strong possibility he's conected as that would make my Martha being between 16 - 30yrs old when giving birth to him.

Hi Jill. Looking at your marriage date for John Buick, I am wondering if he is the son of my John. I have found out since last corresponding with you that my John was b 1744 d 30 Jul 1852 m Martha ? b 1787 d 10 Apr 1875 so it is possible that your John could be their son or nephew. Do you have any other info of birthdates re John & Esther?

Hi Louise. I don't think my info will be of much help but here goes. My husband's grfather was Robert Buick b. 1866-8? in Antrim Ireland and emigrated to NZ were he died in 1942. His wife was Agnes Muir Hardy. Another family of Buicks in Ireland, Robert Buick & Martha White, also had a Robert Buick b 4 Jan 1859 who emigrated to Canada, nothing more is known of him. Another child of Robert & Martha's is Nicholas Buick, emigrated to NZ of which I have been in touch with his descendants for you but no luck with your Robert. Robert seemed to be a common name carried in the Buick line. I'm sure they all tie in together somewhere. I hope someone else may be able to help you.

Can anyone help please!! trying to find entry of marriage for William Henry Buick born circa 1883 to a Agnes Smith born circa 1885 we are told they where both born in Scotland (Glasgow and Aberdeen). We think Agnes may have been married before and her married name was Amos. Really would appreciate any help, I've tried Scottish People but not had much look.

I don't know if this is of any help to you, Donald, but my husband's family tree goes back to Dundee and St Vigeans [a village next door to Arbroath].
We have a Henry Buick b.St Vigeans 1831 son of William Buick b.1805 son of another Henry - birth date unknown so far. William Buick was a canvas weaver and married an Isabel Silver Burnett in 1829.
This [1836] Henry's siblings were William, John, David, Charlotte, Jean, Mary and Stephen. Are these names familiar?
I can't tell you who he married but he'd be about the right age. I'm visiting Edinburgh Register House next week to do some work on our Buicks. I can't promise, but I'll try and fit in Henry. You have to pay for your time there and it becomes a frantic race to fit in as much as possible in the time.
I'd be interested to find out too!

John Buick b.9 Nov.1834 St Vigeans, Arbroath Angus Scotland m.on 26Mar 1859 Aberdeen to Janet Robertson b.c. 1837 Old Machar Aberdeen.
John was the son of William Buick and Isabel Silver Burnett.
Janet was the daughter of George Robertson and Catherine Jackson.
They had 10 children: John Beattie, Janet, Helen, James, Elspeth, William, Carnelia, Henry Willis, Jane and Mary. Does that match?
There are other Buick families and confusions are arising in some peoples trees. I''m visiting Edinbugh Register House on Monday and Tuesday where \i plan doing further Buick research. I''ve got a lot more on these Buicks. Where are you and what is your E-mail address?

My great great grandmother was Catherine Buick born in Ireland-probably Antrim 1843ish.
Her father's name was John Buick and her mother was, we believe called Esther.
Catherine married William John Eccles about 1864.
Migrated to NZ in 1874 and settled in Oamaru. She died
in 1916

William Henry Buick born Cira 1883

Can anyone help me trace a William Henry Buick? He died in 1957 at the age of 74 so I'm putting his birth at round 1883.

I know he was born in Scotland and we are told it was Glasgow but then the family moved to London. He married Agnes Smith but unable to find anything on marriage index. They had there first child in 1921. Agnes we believe had been married before and could have possibly used the name Amos but again we are not sure. I'm very new to this so any help anyone is able to give would be greatly appreciated.
