Please tell us more about your family line. Do you go back to Jan Cornelius Buys of New Amsterdam and his children?
There was a Buys family (spelled various ways) of Brielle, but it turns out that the record linking our family to the Cornelius Buys of Brielle was not real. The person who looked it up in Brielle, seems to have refused to show us the actual record of the marriage of Hendriekje Damen to Cornelius Hendrickse Buys of Brielle and others have not been able to locate it since. There are several reasons why we think this record really does not exists and does not related to our family is that the Brielle family was very famous, well off etc. Jan Cornelius Buys' mother Hendrikje Damen was from a poor or at least average farm family much further north, near Utrecht. Jan Cornelius Buys parents both died before he came to America, and he came and lived with his uncle, Jan Cornelius Damen.
My line is from Jan Cornelius Buys and his second (of three wives) by their son, Jacob Janse Buys.
Jacob married Mariekje Joris Jacobsen/Bauman/Bowmen.
My line goes on to their son,
Jacob Jacobse Buys m. Neeltje Volkerts Bries
Jan/John Buys m. Lena Marselius
( he m. 2: Elizabeth Gordon)
Hendrik/Henry Buys m. Margaret Gordon.
The family moved from Monmouth Co. NJ to Seneca Co. and Wayne Co. NY.
In 1834, Henry and Margaret moved to Erie Co. PA.
