Edward J. Bukowski
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Edward J. Bukowski, age 90, died peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge. Born December 14, 1920 in Stevens Point, Wisc., he was a son of the late Anastasia and John Bukowski. Edward was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He served as a Private First Class in the 337th infantry, Company H with the 99th, 85th, and 10th Mountain Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for campaigns fought in North Africa, Casablanca, and Italy. He was a self employed bricklayer for many years until his retirement in 1982. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening where he was known for the wonderful tomatoes he cultivated. He was a long time member of St. Hedwig Church and the Polish Falcons on 3rd and 19th Streets. Ed will be remembered by his family as kind and gentle man to everyone he encountered. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Anna Zausen Bukowski; a brother, Joseph Hampy; two sisters, Alice Zausen and Mary Duska; and a half brother, Joseph Swider. Survivors include, his wife, Irene P. Dubinski Belczyk Bukowski of Erie; four children, Susan Zimmer (Keith) of Erie, Mark Bukowski (Candice), of Pleasanton, Calif., Christine Sanfratello (Joseph) of Erie, and Jean Earll of Erie; eight grandchildren, Julie and Joe Zimmer, Mary and Dan Bukowski, PFC Matthew Sanfratello, Keith, Michael, and Norman Earll; one great grandchild, Sgt. Jeffrey Guzowski; and one sister, Bertha Siggia, of Erie. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. Services will be held there on Friday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Hedwig Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
