You're welcome.
Are you any closer in locating a place of birth?
You might check out Lithuania and Poland http://genforum.com board.
To hear a pronounciation of a surname:
http://say.expressivo.com
If your ancestor was naturalized citizen, had social security numbers http://ssdi.rootsweb.com than those 2 forms with few others should have a place of birth.

Looking For Upstate NY Bukowski Relatives

My father is Thomas Bukowski, son of Patricia and Robert Bukowski of Rochester, NY. Robert passed away at a young age and I know very little about him/his side of the family. I would like to learn more about my grandfather's side of the family and where we came from. It would be a huge plus to find long lost relatives as well!

No SL~IWINSKI or SL~EWINSKI.
www.herby.com.pl in Polish and only distribution.
441 BUKOWSKIs, 238 BUKOWSKA (ska is female ending) and 191 SLIWINSKIs and 11 SLEWINSKI arrived thru Ellis Island. www.ellisislandrecords.org

Hello,

I am trying to locate information on my Great Grandfather, Anthony (Antoni) Bukowski who was from Poland. He was part Lithuanian and part Polish. He married a Helen (Helena) Slawinski,Slewinski, or Sliwinski most likely in Pennsylvania, USA. The had quite a few children. One son named after the father still resides in Texas. The only other surviving sibling, my grandfather, lives in Western Maryland. Anthony Bukowski died on or around 1938 from Tetanus I believe in Pennsylvania while the oldest son was around 10 years old. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

My grandparents immigrated around 1913, their names were Anna and John. They settled in the Helvetia Area, in Pennsylvania. I don't know what part of Poland they were from. They had Viola, Nora, Josephine, Joe, Walter, Sofia, Stefana, and Chester my father. My dad is the youngest. They left in Poland a couple grown children, Jacob and Andrew. I really don't know what happened to them, my dad says they tried to come over but were sent back. My dad is 83 now, so you can see alot of the family are gone now.

Louis was born either in Illinois or "other country". I can't find any other information about Louis' family. If any one can provide any other information I would appreciate it.

I have found my husband's grandfather's mother's name and it is written as "Louise Berglowski"- pretty close to Bergalowski! His father's name is listed as "Reter Bukowski"? The information is sketchy but the similarities in the mother's names are close enough for me to hope we found a link. Let me know if any of this matches with your information.

I am so excited! My husband's grandmother, Lucy Buck (shortend from Bukowski) divorced Walter sometime in the forties. They had two girls- Caryl and Janet. Caryl is my mother-in-law. They did not speak to Walter very much and therefore they did not know much about him or his family. The girls did grow up in Bayonne. Walter died in 1953 when the girls were teenagers. They are unaware of any relatives on their father's side of the family. Lucy is still alive and living in Lincoln Park, NJ. She has alzheimers, however, and cannot help much. I would love to find out more! My email is breithaupt@aol.com. I live in PA, just over the bridge from the Trenton, NJ area. I was thinking of making a trip to Bayonne to look up some Berglowski/Bukowski records. I can't find anything out about Walter!

Hi Anthony! Eileen and I have been corresponding about Bukowski also. See messages below yours on Message Board. Our line came over to the U.S. from Poland in 1906. John and Peter were brothers who left their families to come over and then John sent for his wife and children. They settled in Bayonne, New Jersey across the river from New York City. John was married to Louis Bergalowski. They had six children-Walter and Elizabeth (Jennie) were born in Poland, and Anna, Eugene, Aloysius, and Josheph were born in New Jersey. John's brother Peter whom he came over with was maried to Berdie. They had four children- Jenie, Peter, Berdie, and Alex. Don't know if we are related- if we are I thought the information might help!
Polly

Michelle,

Wondering if you have any info that may lead to a possible connection. I am not real familiar with the different areas of Poland yet, but I am very interested in any possible connections to the Kwiatkowski name from Poland.

I have a Lawrence Kwiatkowski married to Frances Kalinowski from the area of Przybyslaw/Turzany/Parchanie/Inowroclaw.

Lawrence and Frances had a daughter Josephine born in Przybyslaw I am guessing @ 1870, so Lawrence would be born @ 1850....all guess work on the dates. However, Josephine did marry 2nd husband Joseph Szczupak in Rochester NY 20 January 1908. He emigrated to US in MAy 1907 w/first wife and children, so Joseph and Josephine could have known each other/been from same area. Josephine died 12 March 1946 in Rochester.

Other names from the same area are Kaliska, Niewiadowski, Burmistrzak, Paprocki, Borowicz, Adamski, Zwierzykowska, Karminska, Kruszynski and Ulanowski.

Turzany is a small community @ 4 km west of Parchanie, and Parchanie is @ 8 km east of Inowroclaw. All in the Posen/Poznan area. Most of the families were married in or buried from St. Nicholas Church in Inowroclaw. At some point in history, these villages/towns may have been under Polish/German/Russian rule, but the families have always considered themselves Polish.

Let me know if you think there may be a connection.

Regards,
Maureen
