Allen,
There is a place to attach a file to your post. Is that not possible to do? You could attach Mr. Bullard picture.
I, personally, am glad that you take the pictures, do the posts, and have your webpage. It helps people just like www.findagrave.com. I did go to your webpage and at first I did not understand how it is laid out, but I just went to help and you gave me exact directions to find the picture.

Thanks.

I also thought it was too early for the same reasons, but I was hoping there was something during that time I wasn't aware of.

I am trying to find out why the William and Alva Bullard in the 1850 census disappear in the 1860 census, 70 and 20 years old, respectively, yet William's wife Susan remains in place. I guess William could have died and Alva moved away leaving his mother and younger brother to fend for themselves.

Probably there is another reason.

The War Between The States didn't start until April 1861. It began one month after Lincoln took office in March 1861 (until the 20th century, inaugurations were held in March instead of January), although several states had passed secession bills between Dec, 1860 and April 1861.

If I recall, North Carolina was one of the states that didn't secede until April, 1861, so it's unlikely that they started mustering until 1861.

Civil War Effect on 1860 Census

I have noticed that a large number of the households are headed by women in North Carolina in 1860 and also fewer young men in the families. Is it likely that men were all ready being mustered during the 1860 census? How were they counted in the census or were they, if this was the case.

Thanks.

Tony Bullard

Seeking WIlliam C. Bullard born New Hampshire abt 1820, moved to Morgan Cty IL 1832

I am searching for the parents of William C. Bullard. An 1893 biography for William's son Charles S Bullard says the following:

"[Charles'] father, William C. Bullard, was a native of New Hampshire. HIs parents having died when he was a small child, he was brought by an uncle to Morgan County, this state [IL] in 1832, when twelve years of age."

Based on this, William was born about 1820.

There are several Bullards on the 1830 census in Morgan County, and there are a few Bullards in New Hampshire. I just haven't been able to figure out who William came to live with OR who his parents were who died at a young age.

Just a shot... anyone have any ideas??? Sure wish those 1830 censuses helped us out a bit more!

Peg

I am looking for any information on my ggrandmother. Her maiden name is Rosielee Bullard. She was born 1/1/02. Before she passed she told me that her father's name was Green(e) Bullard and her mother was minnie brown. However, on the 1910 census I found Green married to a woman named Olivia and no minnie or Rosielee in Opelika. If you have ran across information please help me put the pieces together. Thank you in advance.

The 2 Alva Bullards in Robeson, N.C.

First of all I want to thank all of you who have tried to answer my questions about some NC/SC Bullards.

There is a lot of confusion and error, in my opinion, that is centered around Alva Bullard. After months of research I believe my findings on Alva are accurate and may be helpful to many folks searching Bullard ancestry.

As always I welcome discussion and descent.

My line runs from Don Bullard to Enoch Malcolm, to Alva, to William all living in the Robeson County,NC and Marion County, SC areas.

The confusion starts with the Alva Bullard and wife Adeline/Adaline. There are actually 2 different Alva Bullards married to 2 Adelines. Both Alva's had a William Bullard for their father. Both were born in Robeson County, N.C. Many people combine the two or confuse one for the other because of these similarities.

Alva T. Bullard was born in Robeson County in 1837. His wife Adeline was born in 1835. He is shown as a boy on page 71 of the 1850 North Carolina census. His father is William B Bullard born in 1814. His mother is Celia Unknown. The 1880 census shows him married to Adaline with a number of children.

Alva Bullard was born in 1840 in Robeson County also. His father was William _ Bullard, born in Robeson County in 1790. His mother is Susan Powell, born in Bladen County. He is found on page 64 of the same 1850 N.C. Census. The 1880 census shows him married to an Adeline born in 1844. They have three children Ann E., Elliot, and Enoch Malcolm, my ggrandfather.

So we have 2 Alva Bullards born 3 years apart with father's William, also born years apart. Mothers also have different names and ages. Both being on separate pages of the same 1850 census confirms they are different people. Although they are both married to women named Adaline, the women's ages are 9 years apart. The children of each family have very different names.

I am currently working through all the Williams in Robeson County trying to figure out which is the right one in the 1840 to 1790 census. I have found no deeds, wills etc referring to William, Alva, Elliot, Ann E, or Susan. I also have a hunch that Susan was William's second wife. They were married in Robeson County in 1837 after Elliot and Ann were born. Kind of old for a first marriage. There is also a marriage record showing a William Bullard marrying a Martha Thompson in 1825, still kinda old but reasonable.

Any thoughts?

Hope the Alva Bullard information is helpful.

Tony
I have ran across a brick wall that I am hoping I might be able to find some help with.
Mary Cathcart (DOB abt 1854) married a Thomas Bullard in Paulding, Georgia. I do not have any information on this Thomas Bullard. Later on in 1910 I found her remarried to a Duke and her son was living with her and his name was Thomas J bullard DOB 1873 and he was listed as a widow. I have not been able to find him in any other Census. this whole marriage has been tough to research. If you might have any information you could share or a tip to get me in the right direction I would be ever so grateful. I have found Mary married to her third husband in 1910, 1920 and then I found her in 1930 but the Bullard child I can only find in 1910
Thank you in advance

1886: Cowboy Gaines Bullard Killed By Texas Ranger, Y.D. McMurray

A COW-BOY FOILED.

He Attempts to Ride Into a House and is Shot Through Heart.

Special to The Gazette.
HARROLD, TEX., Jan. 20. - Gaines Bullard, a cow-boy who it seems has been in the habit of getting drunk and riding into the saloons and stores, came into town this evening and as usual attempted to repeat his old tricks but was foiled. Private Y.D. McMurray of the rangers attempted to arrest him by grabbing the bridle-reins. He request Bullard to halt. At this Bullard leveled his Winchester rifle at the ranger but McMurray proved too quick and shot him through the heart with a six-shooter, killing him instantly. The sooner the festive cow-boy ceases to take in towns and try to bulldoze the rangers, the better for them.

Source: Fort Worth Daily Gazette, Fort Worth, Texas, Thursday, January 21, 1886
Bullard family-Richland County IL

I have been looking at the Bullard family again in anticipation of a day trip to Richland County IL. The 1790 Robeson NC Census shows several Bullards: John, James, Elizabeth, and Priscilla. The only one that I can identify is John (b. 1762) who was married to Polly Hedgepath. Any idea who the other Bullards are? I am guessing that James is a brother to John? What about the women?

I also noticed that Peter Hedgepath is listed, with a Charity Hedgepath next door. I have that Peter's wife was Charity...any idea who this Charity is?

Another thing: I found a John Boolard in 1820 in Gibson County IN...I am quite sure that it is John William Bullard...has anyone else found this?

Thanks for any help!
Sue Adamson Fritz

This is a historic first, in that DNA has matched Ballard/Bullard families in the UK and the US. The two familes listed below share a common ancestor by DNA.

Please let me know if anyone has additional information on the early connections of these two lines. It is apparent that the connection is prior to William Ballard b. 1617 arrival to the Massachusetts Colony. The area of interest in the UK would be Weybread, Suffolk for the spelling Bullard.

Ballard DNA Group 6: Haplogroup R1b1b2a1a4 U106+ L48+
1 Valentine Bullard b 1638, Weybread, Suffolk m.
