John Bullington & Mary Bullington living with Dorothy family in Iowa

I am looking for John & Mary Bullington, presumably brother and sister. They were living with Thomas Dorothy and his wife Sarah (nee Tadlock) in Iowa around the 1850s. Sarah Tadlock's mother was Mary Ann Bullington.

I am guessing that John and Mary were "adopted" by Thomas and Sarah. They can be found on the 1850 census for Wapello County, Iowa, and on the 1852 and 1856 Iowa State Census in Davis County. By the 1860 census, John was no longer living with the family (still in Davis County) but Mary was still there, along with my GGgrandfather William Huddleston. I do not see evidence that Thomas and Sarah had any children of their own.

According to the 1850 census, the children were born in Indiana, but the 1856 census states that they were born in Illinois. This family lived in Orange County Indiana, Hancock County Illinois, and surrounding areas, so either is possible.

Thank you in advance for any clues that you may be able to share!

Amy

I also would like to find some info on the family. I know that he had a sister named Grace, but that's all that I know and my husband doesn't know either. I think that they were from the Abbeville, Ga area - not sure.

Do any of you know of Ada Florence Bullington married to George Medlin. They lived in Putnam Co Tennessee. Ada and George were my gg grandparents. Another curiosity is that I have a picture of a woman by the name of Harriet Maynard (this sometime in 1930s) and she is quite elderly. The back mentions her name and is inscribed "my grandmother's mother" (indicating Ada's mother.)My grandmother Ruby Julian Huffman thinks she remembers that grandma (Ada) was adopted. But she couldn't remember how she gleaned this info. I have been unable to locate any info on Ada and I am not even sure how Harriet connects. Thanks, Tami

They were born in the 1840's or 1850's, my great-grandmother, Jennie Oretta, was born in the 1870's and my grandmother was born in the early 1890's. Fannie, as she was called, was born in Indiana, but Harvey was born in KY. In the 1910 census, they were living in Spencer County, IN. I would like more info about your ancesters. It is just curious that they would have the same names.

Ella BULLINGTON only had one husband, Thomas Madison BORN, to the best of my knowledge (another marriage would have had to happen before she was 20 when she married Tom and they were married for 43 years). They had 6 children: Earl Thomas, b. 1896; David and John Bullington, twins b. 1899 (David died at birth); Bertram Howard, b. 1900; Folsom (female); and Mable.

Re: Ella R. BULLINGTON, more information....

I believe Ella's parents were David BULLINGTON (b. 8 Sept. 1833 Indiana, d. 15 July 1891 Jewell Co., Kansas) and Margaret A. --?-- (possibly HARPER) (b. 9 April 1840 Illinois, d. 29 Jan 1913 Jewell Co., Kansas). They moved to Jewell Co., Kansas in 1879 where daughter Minnie E. passed away on 28 Sep 1882 (b. abt 1875 Missouri). Besides Ella, there were at least 6 other daughters all living in 1933. Ella's obituary lists:
Mrs. P. J. Irwin of Hill City, KS
Mrs. J. L. Irwin of Dallas, Texas
Mrs. W. E. Jones of Burr Oak, Kansas
Mrs. Thomas Kirk of Portland, Texas
Mrs. P. S. Dewitt of Salem, Oregon
Mrs. S. J. Botts of Salem, Oregon

Mrs. Jones was Mary E., Mrs. Kirk was Margaret Almeda, and Mrs. DeWitt was Emily J. The other girls' names I have (from 1880 census) are Emma J. (although this is possibly the same as Emma J.) and Susanna.

Olivia's mother was a NANCE.

The LDS Ancestral File connects this John to the Robert above, but we have not been able to make the connection......

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JoAnn Ford

Thank you for your information regarding the Nance family. It helped clarify some questions we had. Do you have a source that indicates that Giles NANCE was the father of Chloe/Cloa? (Our information was either
Giles OR Fredrick?)

We have the marriage date and place of Olivia Mitchell and John Bullington as 17 Apr 1797, Pittsylvania Co., VA. We also have that the Robert Bullington who md Mary J. Long (dau of Clement) is a son of John and Olivia. We also have information that this Robert is the son of a Josiah and Maria (Hobson) Bullingtion. (This Robert went to Eureka, Woodford, IL) Do you have a clarification on this?

We have corrected (by research in Indiana) some of the misconceptions that were perpertrated in our "family records" about this family. If you are interested, can send you what we have.

As an interesting note, on another side of the family (WATSON - unrelated to Bullingtons), the Clement NANCE family comes into play again, in Floyd Co., IN.

You can reply to djford1@xmission.com if you would like.

JoAnn Ford

I remember the family. My parents were good friends with Kenneth and Treva Bullington. I'm not exactly sure of their relationship to your Bullingtons. I am pretty sure that Kenneth and his sister, Ilda, were the children of George Edward Bullington. However, I think they were raised by an Aunt, Lydia M. Baker, who was the wife of George Baker.

My parents also probably knew Joseph R. Bullington, who lived in Runnells. I might have known him as well since I was born and raised in Runnells, but, quite frankly, the only ones I recall specifically was Kenneth and his wife, Treva.

I know it's been a while since JoAnn posted her message, but I hope someone can help me.

I'm looking for David BULLINGTON, b. 8 Sep 1833 in Indiana. His wife's name was Margaret A. and she was born 9 Apr 1840 in Illinois. On FamilySearch.org, I found a David b. "abt. 1833" in the family of James BULLINGTON (s/o John BULLINGTON & Olivia Cluree MITCHELL) and Sarah "Sally" GARRISH.

David & Margaret had at least 8 daughters. They lived in Illinois until between 1867 (birth of last daughter in IL) and 1870 when they were in Springfield, Missouri for the birth of their daughter, Ella. Ella's obituary notes that they moved to Burr Oak, Jewell Co., Kansas in 1879. David, Margaret and their daughter Minnie are all buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Any one with info on this David?

Jackie

The Bullington families didn't use much thought in the fact that every generation has the same first names. I have been researching the line for about 5 years and have hundreds of names; however there wasa Boyce Bullington that lived in Union, SC in the late 30s and early 40s. He had descended from Robert Bullington 1740-1821 and died in Sandy River VA.
Robert had a son named William that went to Union Co about 1795. My ancestor, Robert Bullington 1776-1852 went to Union for a few years, but ended up in Spartanburg Co. about 1820.
I feel that your ancestor came from that same line through William that moved to Union Co shortly after the Revoulution.
You can reply to me at: lakebull@bellsouth.net

Hi Lula,

John Wesley Bullington was my great grandfather. His daughter by his first marriage to Evelyn Essex. Her name was Ora Lena Bullington and she was born October 2, 1890 and died December 1961. She married Elijah L. Foutch and she had one daughter, my mother, Geneva. My grandmother, Ora, came to live with us in NY the last four years of her life and brought with her a number of photo albums. I have lots of pictures but not a lot of them are labeled. My mother used to talk about Charles Rhea a lot. Is he still living and do you suppose he could identify some of these photos. He is one of the oldest in the family, I believe.

I have looked at other websites that contain Bullingtons and I have some of the same photos that they show. I wonder how they obtained them. Anyway, it would be good to hear from you. Judy Graham

Check out
www.ajlambert.com. Another one to check is www.tribalpages.com/tribes/bullington. I never heard that John Wesley's father came from South Carolina. In fact I have two sources that say he was born in Tennessee.
I have an invitation that your father sent to my grandmother Ora and her husban, Elijah Foutch inviting them to attend his graduation at Cumberland Univesity. Imagine!

Judy

With that information, I would say the photo was taken just prior to 1909 when your father, Lilburn, was born since he is not in the photo. And Daisy Bullington's maiden name is Chambers? Does all that sound right to you? I would like to put a date with this photo. And I can be reached at aholmes@remax.net.

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Baltimore, Maryland as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: HARRY LAFAYETTE BULLINGTON
Born: August 9, 1925, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 22, 1950, Missing in Action (MIA)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Bullington family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
J.W. was also my grandfather - I am the son of Lilburn Bullington, brother of Charles Rhea (who now lives in Florida with his wife Mary). Do you have any information of John Wesley's father (supposedly to be a Henry from South Carolina)?? I am currently in Williamsburg where Nicholas came in 1623. Full circle??
