Looking for John/Jack Bullis born 1888 in England, died 1961 in Alberta, Canada. He was in the 1910 Oklahoma census (as Bullas) living with brother & sister, Wm (21) & Alice (23) Anderson. Wm & Alice were born in Clay Co., Kentucky. John/Jack & Alice later married & moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. They followed Alice's parents there, I believe. I found their graves in the Lake Saskatoon Cemetery. Does John/Jack belong to any Bullis family here? Do you know if Alice & John/Jack had any children or anything at all about them? Thanx!

If you look on my public member tree here you will see that my ex-husband's Joe (William Leonard) grandmother was born Flora Bullis. Her Bullis ancestors were some of the earlist settlers of Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Using vital records and census records I come to a brick wall with Charles Edward Bullis who census records state was born cir 1789 in New York and married to Sarah Halsey. One census record gives her place of birth as Rhode Island and another lists place of birth as Connecticut. They somehow had Ohio connections also as some of the Bullises were born in the Akron area. His son Sylvester also born New York in 1814 was married to Louisa Daily who had early colonial New England and New Netherland (Dutch) roots. Louisa was only 14 years old when they married.
Was Charles Edward Bullis born too late to be included in your book?

I looked for the book for years, and I know of one person who has it, but I forgot his name. It's actually a huge book - two large volumes. It's a trip, but there is a copy at the genealogy library in SLC. It's a great resource, I copied off many pages from it on my line. He is pretty accurate until the 5th generation, but I did find several huge mistakes in the 6th generation, so if you do read it, make sure you still check out all of his facts.

The only Bullis in Butler IA were James Pliny Bullis and his mother Elizabeth (England) Bullis. (His father,(John?) Pliny Bullis died before he was born.) They moved to IA from OH with Elizabeth's older married children from her prior marriage to William Hane. Elizabeth is interred in Hitesville Cemetery. James P went on to Brule Co SD and was the seed of that SD line. The Bullis Cemetery is on the west side of his original homestead.

don't know if you are still looking this up but I can tell you that my line in this tree does have Indian blood, I am decended from Milo's grandfather Thomas Bullis sr. his older son Charles is my grandfather, Charles had a son John Silas, John Silas had a son Charles A. who had a son Julius Smith Bullis, Julius Smith had a daughter Esther Mary Bullis, she married Isaiah Welch, Thier Daughter Anna married Lawrence Jacobs. thier Son Jacob E. Jacobs had a daughter with Roberta Doxtator, me, Crystal. now I know that Isaiah Welch is Brothertown Indian, and Lawrence Jacobs is Stockbridge, if there were any indians before that that married into the family then I don't know, Judith Hart who married Philip Bullis was the daughter of John Hart and Mary Merton, both of Oxfordshire England,I don't have a mother for John either, alot of the indians weren't put on rolls because they were encouraged to become citizens of america, if you became an american indian you didn't get put on the rolls. so there may be indian blood in the Bullis line but it was not noted. if you want to get a hold of me my email is mahkwatahaso@sbcglobal.net good luck on your search.

I am not familiar with the name but my grandmother (who I never knew) often spoke of the family as wooden shoe Dutch. I later contacted a man who connected the bullis famiy with a name of Zonne or Sonn. Does this help?
I'm not sure that I can help you but if you will contact me, I will tell you what I do know. My families were not only Dutch but settled in Greene County, NY. (Catskill).
Please let me know. D.J.Hollinger

We're researching our family -- Sopher -- in PA, VA, IL, MS etc. What does the term wooden shoe Dutch mean -- that the family was very Dutch? Does anyone know if the family name Sopher is Dutch?
I'm especially interested in finding out who the parents of William Sopher (b. 1785 Loudoun, VA and m. Catherine Ballard) were.
Any bit of info is helpful and appreciated. Thanks.

Ezra W. Bullis

My great-great grandfather was born 1801-1802 in Canton, New York (we think) He lived in Canton for several years, married and fathered nine children there. He and his family relocated to Cherry Valley, Ill in 1853 and then to Minnesota in 1856. We have been unable to locate either his birth records (he listed his birthplace as NY)or death records. He was last reported in the 1880 census as living in Frederika, Iowa with his daughter Laura Louise Hinkley. Laura and her husband returned to MN in 1887 (?) and they are both buried in Grant County MN. Anybody know about Ezra?
