Charles Bullock from Springfield, MA

I have very recently discovered a letter my father saved from December of 1968. A Charles Bullock from Springfield, MA wrote asking questions about his name, Raymond Charles Bullock Jr. The individuals he writes about are my ancestors and would love to know if this Charles is still alive or if he handed down his information to his children. I am desperately looking for my Bullock family connections. I know they lead to Canada, but would love to know anything anybody has about Bullocks from the Addison County area in Vermont. The interesting thing is I have Bullocks on both sides of my family. It seems on my Mom's side they may have come from either NY or CT, I just cannot seem to find anything concrete on them. The farthest I can go back is my GGGgParents, Daniel and Rachael or Rachel Bullock. Her maiden name was Northrup or Northorp, not sure which. I am going by a death certificate of their son Roselle Bullock.
Please anybody with anything about the names mentioned feel free to contact me at Erinraid@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you-Erin

Jeptha (Jepna) Bullock married Ada Searcy on February 24, 1841 in Wilkinson County, GA. I know they moved to Alabama then back to Georgia and that Jeptha died in Early Co. GA in June of 1883. I obtained his death mention in a local newspaper. I believe Jeptha’s parents were James Bullock and Unknown (this James is the James Bullock who married his second wife, Elizabeth Searcy, also in Wilkinson Co. GA). I believe Jeptha’s paternal grandparents were John Bullock and Sarah Mayo, and paternal great grandparents were David Bullock & Elizabeth Hood, this last is from other resources.

Jeptha and Ada had at least children 9 children: Three girls & Six Boys

Sarah Bullock b. about 1842 d.
Charles Bullock, Herkimer Co., NY

Bullock, Charles B., Ohio, was born in Norway, N.Y., June 13, 1835. His parents were Ira and Mary (Hodge) Bullock. (See biography of Augustus Odit.) Charles V. was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. He early learned the blacksmith trade, which he followed in Norway and Cold Brook fifteen years. In 1857 he married Mary C. Hall, a native of St. Johnsville, N.Y., and to them were born two daughters, Fannie, who married Samuel Lawton, of Ohio, and has two daughters, Agnes and Myrl; they live at Cold Brook; and Emma. Emma resides with her parents. For the last twenty years Mr. Bullock has resided on a farm in Norway. He and his wife are members of the Baptist church of Norway. Mr. Bullock was drafted in the late war, but furnished a substitute. The parents of Mrs. Bullock were Dennis and Fannie Hall, who were early settlers of Gray, coming there from St. Johnsville, N.Y. They were the parents of four children. Mr. Hall was drum major in the Ninety-seventh New York Infantry and served three years. Mr. Hall was a furrier by trade.

source:
History of Herkimer County, New York : illustrated with portraits of many of its citizens
edited by George A.

I have researched this Amos and Rachel Thompkins Bullock in TN and their son William Jefferson Bullock (1810-1883) and some of his descendants in Pope and Yell Counties AR. I have also researched the roots of Amos' parents, William and Franky Bullock, in TN and back into Virginia.

My research indicates that Amos Bullock's forefathers are probably related to my Bullock family that immigrated into colonial Virginia in the 1660’s. I wish to collaborate and share with other researchers or persons of kindred blood to these families -- especially any living male Bullocks of this family.
I am looking for information on Tennessee Bullocks. I have a William Jefferson Bullock born in Tennessee in 1812, married to Mary Ann (Wallace?) Bullock, but cannot find his father. I think the Tennessee William Bullock may be descended from a William Bullock that immigrated from England in 1775, and possibly settled in North Carolina, but I can't connect the two. Can anyone help?
Which John Bullock married Mary Carter in 1774 in Rehoboth, and which John Bullock married Sally Brown in 1773?

I have seen this question debated on the Internet before (see, e.g., URL at end) but have never seen a citation of a primary source that can settle the issue.

A John Bullock was b. 21 May 1751, the son of John Bullock, b. abt. 1715, and Mrs. Jerusha Smith, as shown by the NEHGS online index to Rehoboth Vital Records, and by his father's 1777 Will. The 1790 distribution of the father's estate names this John Bullock as the youngest son. John Bullock, b. 21 May 1751, was the third in this line, his grandfather
having been John Bullock, b. 19 May 1664, the son of Richard Bullock and Elizabeth Billington.

The NEHGS online index to Rehoboth vital records shows two marriages which might reasonably refer to John Bullock, b. 21 May 1751:

Bullock, John, 3d, of Rehoboth and Sally Brown of Barringtou, [sic] Oct. 30, 1773. Intention (no vol. or page given)

Bullock, John, Jr., and Mary Carter, married by Elder John Hix Dec. 8, 1774. Int. Nov. 8, 1774 (vol. 3, p. 292)

Do both of these records pertain to John Bullock, b. 21 May 1751, with the marriage to Sally Brown having been called off (since only the intention is shown) or with Sally Brown having died within the first year of marriage? Do these records pertain to two different John Bullocks, and if so, which of them (if either) was John Bullock, b. 21 May 1751? What records exist that can settle this question?

http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=tree&m=668&amp...

Bullock/Cota(e) from Vermont

I am desperately looking for any family members from these two surnames. I would love to chat and share. I have been at my family history since July 07 and have hit quite a brick wall with my father's ancestors. Of course, everything seems to point to Canada. I'm just hoping maybe someone out there has other information about my ancestors. It seems they set down roots in the Addison County area of the Vermont, then some came down into the Rutland County, which is where I'm from. My great grandparents names were Theodore Bullock who married Sophia Cota(e). The spelling of Cota is varied I know, but like I said, I'm just hoping to find people with some missing pieces.
Thank you.

Bullocks at Woodville Cemetery, Jefferson, NY -- CORRECTED

(This posting replaces two previous threads by the same name, from which a crucial middle section was somehow dropped in the process of posting. My apologies to all for the confusion).

I am in possession of two listings for the Bullocks buried at Woodville Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY. The listings do not agree with one another, nor with those few vital records that seem to involve the same names. I would like to hear from anyone who knows how the stones actually read (better yet, anyone with photographs of the stones), or who can tell me where the information in these listings originates.

The first listing is photographed as FHL #0414872. The records are typewritten, with a handwritten cover page describing them as "Jefferson County New York Cemetery Records: grave stones copied with deaths prior to 1885..." The Family History Library online catalog further describes the records as a typescript book/monograph, published Syracuse, New York : Hall & McChesney, 1964. There is no further information as to who compiled the records, though they seem to be referenced in a 1977 letter from W. William Whitley of Ellisburg to Charles Lovell Bullock, where they are described as having come from "the DAR death books." Regarding the Bullock surname, FHL #0414872 gives the following 4 records (the only Bullocks shown in Woodville):

(1) Bullock, Elkanah, died july 26, 1847 aged 66 yrs.
(2) Bullock (Lydia Cook married 1799)
(3) Bullock (Elizabeth Colvin, 2nd wife, Married 1812)
(4) Bullock (Anna Slantery Nutting Chalange, 3rd wife)

I do not believe the parenthetical information appeared on the stones, but was rather supplied (from sources unknown) by the compiler.

The second listing was provided to me in 2006 by a volunteer with the Historical Association of South Jefferson. I know nothing more than this concerning the origin of the information. This listing reads:

Elkanah Bullock, Sr. – 2 wives buried at Woodville Cem. (unknown if Elkanah is buried there); m. (1) Lydia Cook (d. 1812); (2) Elizabeth Colvin (d. ca. 1820)

Elkanah Bullock, Jr. b. 1781, d. 7/26/1847. bur. Ellisburg Cem. War of 1812 veteran.

There are three marriage records in the name of Elkanah Bullock that appear to be connected to these cemetery records. The first two come from the NEHGS online index to Arnold’s vital records of Rehoboth, Bristol, MA, and appear to show the same marriage with two different names for the wife:

(1) Lydia Horton & Elkanah Bullock, both of Rehoboth, Aug. 20, 1774, Intention.

(2) Elkanah Bullock & Lydia Carter, married by Elder John Hix, Sept. 29. 1774. Int. Aug. 20, 1774 (vol. 3, p. 292).

The third comes from Volume 2A, page 41, of the town records for Halifax, Windham Co., VT (FHL film #0028362) and shows the 06 Mar. 1800 marriage of Elkanah Bullock of Guilford, and Phebe Cook of Halifax.

It is not clear if Lydia Cook of the cemetery records is Lydia Horton/Carter of the Rehoboth marriage record, Phebe Cook of the Halifax marriage record, or some other woman altogether.

Probate papers for the Elkanah Bullock that died in 1847 show his widow's name as Anna.

As you can see, the records in my possession are highly confusing. Any help sorting them out would be greatly appreciated.

My Great-grandfather Mack Bullock is believed to have been born in 1857. He can be located on the 1900 census as a lodger in Norfolk, VA living with the Morton Family. Prior to the 1920 census he met/married a Mary ?-Nelson. Mary's maiden name is unknown, but she was previously married to a Sydney Nelson of Tanners Creek,Norfolk,VA. Mary had three children with Mack. James Albert, Vivian, and Edward L. James Albert Bullock is my grandfather and was born April 13, 1922. By the 1930 census, Mack is nolonger listed. I believe shortly before the 1930 census, he died. Mary is listed on the 1930 census as head of the household including all the children she had in both marriages. Can anyone help with this? Mack Bullock worked on the pier as a longshoreman.

I recently purchased a large lot of photographs. Among them are several of a Margaret Bullock, that were taken in PA. at what looks like the very early 1900s. If anyone would like scans of them emailed, let me know and I would be delighted to do so. The photos are in an old album, so I am sure other family members are there too, but most of them only have first names or references to the places in which they were taken.

Bullock/Cota(e) Families in Addison County, VT

I am beginning to do my family history and seem to have hit somewhat of a snag with my GG grandparents. According to town records, it shows they lived in the Addison County area in the 1800s and beyond (not exactly sure of dates). The names I'm looking for are: Louis & Alfrozene (Frozene) Cota, Theodore & Sophia Bullock, Thomas & Mary Bullock, and George Thomas who died when he was 6. Alfrozene (Rivers), Thomas, & Mary are believed to have been born in Canada. Louis was born in Essex, VT. I'm sure they all came from Canada, but I'm having trouble finding who and where them and their parents originally came from. The other part is I have Bullocks on my mother's side of the family as well. I'm stuck on Daniel & Rachel Bullock from NY who had Roselle who was my mother's great grandfather. Confusing. I would really appreciate any information from anyone who might recognize these names. I would like to go further back in history, but I can't until I find out more. Thank you to anyone.

Erin Thompson
Wells, VT

Looking for information about the family of John Bullock who moved from Saratoga Co NY to Susquehanna Co (NE PA) PA in 1806 with two other families. I annot find him in the 1810 census of PA nor the 1800 census of NY, so must assume that the family was "on the move" John and his wife had one chlld with them when the moved from NY to PA, so I am assuming that they were young, as they had one child with them, so either they were just starting their family, or this was the "baby". No idea of the age of the child. The other families were in thier 30's and 40's and had 4 children between the 5 and 12. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even a hint as to where they came from prior to Saratoga Co, NY . Many thanks, Roger

Bascom-Bullock-Bulloch line

My husbands grandfather was Elmer Bascom and his wife was Roselle Annette Bullock...somewhere, back in the line, a female Bascom married a male, E.O. Bullock. We would like to find that information. It seems rather ironic that the names would be reversed and we would like to know the relationship. Also, would like to find when the name Bullock and Bulloch were changed. Thanks

I have been trying for some time to track down the living descendants of Seth Bullock, the famous marshal of Deadwood – or, if possible, the descendants of Kenneth C. Kellar, Seth’s grandson who wrote "Seth Bullock, Frontier Marshal." (That book, in reference to earlier messages on this board, is now available in affordable paperback.)

Does ANYONE have a line on these descendants? I really need to contact them.

Anyone responding may e-mail me directly: jleeroll@hotmail.com

Thanks.
Looking for info concerning family named Bullock. The name was changed somewhere abouts 1840-1860 to Washington. The family came from Va and migrated to Buxton, Iowa about the time of the name change. The one family was:
William Washington married to Mary Stribbling
Siblings: William, Julius, Harry, Hallie, Anna, Mary, Teresa. Anna was born in Pa and Hallie was born in Va (I was told). William Washington had brothers one of them named James Henry. There was a sister named Verbena who married into the Reasby family.
If you have any info I would appreciate it.
Anna

I'm looking for information about Bullock's that lived in the Stokesdale NC area. My grandfather was Otis Bullock born in August 1909 or 1907 in the Stokesdale area but moved to Reidsville, NC. I believe his fathers name was Merrion Vance Bullock (3/1876 - 11/1917) and mother Luzetta Turner Bullock (11/1880 - 9/1956). I found these two names and dates on gravestones at the Oak Level Baptist Church in Stokesdale.

My Grandfather Otis Bullock had 5 brothers:
Johnny/John Bullock
Clyde Bullock
Earl Bullock
Sam Bullock
Curtis Bullock

Any info would be nice!
