My grandfather (also Joseph) was sent to live with a Quaker family for a while, when the father died when he was about 2-3.

I would love to know more of this family branch... any information you might have would be great.
thanks
Ann Fishback Bennett (father=fishback, mother=Bumby)

Hi Lawrence, you are correct. I haven't been on the site in a while so I haven't given any updates here. =)

According to my records (and info from relatives and people here on Ancestry), Jesse Bumby is my great grandfather. Check out my family tree if you can access it. But here is what I have been able to determine:

Jason Thomas Bumby (me)
son of
Thomas Lee Bumby Birth 1946 (married to Brenda Abrams)
son of
Tom Bumby Birth 1905 (married to Helen Lee)
son of
Jesse Bumby Birth 1873 (married to Cornelia Pierce)
son of
Jesse Bumby Birth 1823(?) (married to Temperance unknown last name)
son of
Job Bumby Birth 1798(?) (married to Lydia unknown last name)

I haven't lived in Florida since 1995 so I can't say I know who you are talking about. But I appreciate the info and thank you very much for responding to my thread! Please keep me updated on anything else you may run across.

Jason

Re: Joseph Bumby

Hi, Here are some facts. Joseph Bumby son of Joseph Bumby emmigrated form England in 1873 hoping to go to Denver. Upon arriving in Norfolk, Virgina he decided to take a trip to see "cousin" Jesse Bumby in Orlando. Your grandfather is likely a son of Jesse who was living on Lake Bumby in southern Orlando in 1873, when Joseph Bumby arrived from England. Joseph Bumby could not be your ancestor if Jesse Bumby is, since they visited each other in 1873. Ada Bumby my grandmother said these two pioneers never could figure out their relationship. There are so few Bumby's in England that they had to be related somehow. About all of Joseph's decendants are accounted for, but it is great to hear about Jesse Bumby's family since he is how we ended up in Florida. I met another decendant who taught automechanics at West Orange High school and lives in the Mt. Dora Florida. Do yo know him?
Lawrence Fisher
Apopka, Florida

Well, I'm finally back here after losing a lot of records and email addresses, but starting to slowly build back up.

Anyone still post here or looking for any information? I've managed to trace as far back as my great-great grandfather who was Jesse Bumby. He emigrated to Florida from England around 1865 and was born around 1829. I'm still trying to trace back farther, but good lord, sometimes the records are unreadable or there is nothing at all.

I did find a website dedicated to Central Florida history which had burial certificates of some of my relatives, but for the life of me, I can't access the website any longer.

Does anyone else have any helpful websites you use personally that could possibly help with clarifying information?

My family name is Bumbrey/Bumbry dervied from the old English/Irish name Bunbury.

You mention family names as Thomas and his wife Elizabeth whose maiden name is Short. Thomas came to the US as an indentured servant working for Tobias Horton in Lancaster county, VA.

Is there a link between our families. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

Angela

The only siblings I know off the top of my head are Mabel and Pete (<~~maybe short for Phillip?). Pete was at Utah Beach in WW2. I'll research it a bit more though and get back with you.

Jason

I had heard stories growing up that my dads brother went to the phillipines and never returned. I would be interested in finding out if this is the same thomas that I had heard about. If it is not I thank you for your time.......Kevin

Joseph Bumby

If anyone can help out with this I'd appreciate it.

I think I've narrowed down that my great-great grandfather is Joseph Bumby. He migrated to Florida from England in 1873. I'm not positive though and I could more than likely be wrong. My grandfather, Tom Bumby, was a County Commissioner based out of Kissimmee, Florida and was born in April of 1905. I believe his father's name was Jess or Jesse. It would be easier if I could find birth and marriage certificates but all I seem to come up with are death certs. Any ideas?

I just want to thank those who are responsible for this web site.

My father joined the US Navy and was sent to the Philippines during WWII.
There he managed to have three separate wives. I was his first child from
his first wife. I was two when they broke their marriage. Then he had a daughter
from his second wife, then three daughters and three sons from the third wife.
He must have learned from the first two…hehehehehehe.

I found the last six of my brothers and sisters in 1987 on a trip to the Philippines.

I knew about the second child from his second wife but I did not know her where about.

Thanks to this site her daughter Mary found a posting I had on this site. Mary e-mailed
we about her discovery. The rest is history.

I’ve been informed that Mary, her mom Frances, two sisters and two brothers from the third
batch are having a mini reunion in the Philippines.

This did not cost me any but gained a whole family.

Again, thank you Ancestry.com
