I have been tracing my family tree and have been able to make some sense of some of the info I have obtained. My father Milo Sr was born in 1918 to Jesse Bump and Nancy
Fredenburg in Brandon, NY. Somehow I am related to a Milo Bump who was born in 1815 and died in the Battle of Fair Oaks in Va during the Civil War. His grave is up in Stephens Cemetary in Brandon or Skerry, NY not far from my father,
Milo Bump Sr. and his mother Nancy Fredenburg and father Jesse Bump.

I am looking for a possible BUMP-STURDEVANT connection. I recently received information that an Arvilla Bump, possible born in New York, married a Harmon (Hammond)Sturdevant. Arvilla and Harmond ended up Crawford, Kansas, and Arvilla lived into her 90's. Her daughter Francis A. Sturdevant married William Beach. As of the 1880 census for Crawford County, Arvilla and Harmon were living with Francis, who was widowed, by then. Francis and William Beach had a daughter, Lettie May (born in New York), who married John H. Kitchen (born in Pennsylvania. They all migrated to Kansas @ 1870s. The BUMP family connection took me by surprise. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Will share info.

Bump and Kester - Miami Co, Kansas

I'm looking for information on my great great grandmother - Anna Mollie Bump. She married Ferdinand Warren Kester in Vermillion CO, IL in 1871 and they had 2 children, Eliza and William. In 1880 the 4 are on the Osawatomie, Miami CO, KS census - but then in 1883 she married my great great grandfather, Miles Oliver Cook.

Together Miles and Anna moved to Oklahoma and had 5 children - before Anna died she traveled back to Paoli, KS to visit her son, William Kester - where she died on Aug 30, 1911. She is buried at OSage Cemetery in Agra, OK - her husband Miles died in December of that year. They were early settlers in the town of Agra.

I found a census from 1870 in Danville, Vermillion, IL that shows their family
William - 53, farmer - born in NY
Elizabeth - 46 - born in Ohio
William - 21, son
Annie - 16, daughter
Lilly - 8, daughter - I believed she married a Kester also.
Betsy - 6, daughter

Anyone who has info and would like to share on these two families - I'd really appreciate the help - thanks.

Ebenezer R Bump/Mary Ann Rose Lyme, Ct.

I’m wondering if anyone has any information regarding the family of Ebenezer R Bump and Mary Ann Rose of Lyme, Ct. I believe that my GG grandfather was their oldest son John L born 1835 in Lyme. He married Emma E Ames of Lyme in May of 1856. Additional siblings include: William Lord (who appears to have married Emma’s sister Sarah M Ames), George E., Augusta, Ellen and Franklin A.

John L was a seaman and eventually moved his family from East Lyme to New London and eventually to Jersey City, New Jersey where he worked as a harbor pilot. It also appears that at some point after leaving East Lyme, he changed his surname his from Bump to Bunce. I’ve recently uncovered the marriage records in Lyme for John L and Emma Ames, as well as the birth records for 5 of their children. All are recorded using the Bump name.

Any additional confirmation (or denial) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help!

Looking for info on my greatgrandmother, b. Julia Mabel Bump 11-Jun-1877 in Elyria, OH. Married Joseph Mckindred Brown 1903 in Erie, KS. She moved with her new husband and several stepchildren to CO, then to Polsen, MT. and finally Deer Lodge, MT. She died there 4-May-1956. Her father's name was John Bump, she also had a brother by that name. John Sr. was supposedly a Civil War veteran, which state unknown. He was supposedly born in NY, orphaned and adopted. I don't know if Bump was his original name or adopted name. I know some of the family ended up in WA., I met Ruth Bump, a daughter of the younger John who lived in Wenatchee, WA., but she was elderly, and I didn't ask the right questions or she didn't know the answers. Any info on this family would be appreciated.

in 1808 Ilaf White b MD about 1750 died in Fleming County KY naming William Bump his executor. One of Ilaf's daughters, Mary was married to Benjamin Bump it seems and apparently they had a son named William born about 1800 in Fleming County or on the migration to KY. On the 1810 census William's household seems to include Benjamin and Benj.'s wife Mary nee White. Has anyone run into these people or their desc?.

I believe they resided in Missouri but she may have been from West Virginia. My grandfather was Richard C. Ivins (b.1914 d.1991) and he lived in Missouri and Illinois. There were 3 other children, Daphne(Hayzlett b.1911 d.1999), Edith aka Elaine (Brejot b. 1913 d. 1997), and David (still living in Wyoming).
My father's name is William Richard Ivins. He was born in West Frankfort, Illinois in 1941.

I know her father was Franklin A Bump b-1853 Old Lyme, CT.
I have the Harris side all the way to the 1500's but my question is .... does anyone have any other info on these Bumps? I don't know her mother's name or even if her and Frederick had any other kids. Also, any Native American lines here?

I have found that Widow, Martha Millington had a second marriage to someone named Bump. Her first husband, Samuel Millington died bef. Feb. 5, 1823 in Shaftsbury, Bennington Co. VT. In the estate papers, she is listed as Martha Bump, late Martha Millington by 1831. I would like to know who her second husband was and find a DOD on her. She was probably born in the late 1780s. It is believed her maiden name was either Wood or Woodard.

In my long search for my Nelson Bumpass,with the help from a friend.We beleive this is what has happen.Nelson that married Harriet Hart in 1858 had a son. They called him Willam Nelson.b 1858 .Something must have happened to Hariet,cuz then then Nelson Sr, married Lucy Burford, in which they had a son Nelson William b.1867. So we have two brother here that are half brothers and only live countys apart.From what we can tell Nelson Sr. died around 1869 to 1870, because Lucy remarried K.P.Henderson.If anyone has more to add please let me know. I am fishing in the dark here with little bait, but I'll give it a try. I am trying to track down Sarah Huggins King Bump, spouse of Robert Bump, around 1862-1875, possibly from the Washington Co. area of New York state. I have no information on Robert Bump at all; e.g., dates, places, etc. However, I do know that his wife Sarah was the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Gleason) Huggins of Co. Monaghan, Ireland. She was born probably sometime between 1810 and 1835. Her siblings, John, Samuel and Elizabeth Huggins McKernon emigrated to Washington County, NY in the 1830-1845 timeframe. Sarah was first married to James King of Argyle(?), who died in 1861 at age 28. Robert Bump was supposedly her second husband. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Bump Tavern was built in Windham, Greene County, NY in 1795 by Jehiel Tuttle. The building was purhased in 1840 by Ephraim Bump who operated it as a tavern for drovers and travelers. Ephraim's descendants, Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Steele, sold the building to the New York State Historical Association in 1952, and it was cut into sections, transported to Coopertown, NY and reassembled on the grounds of the Farmers' Museum. On July 4, 2002, the museum will mark the 50th anniversary of its acquisition of this historic structure. One of the tavern interpreters has enlisted my aid in locating living descendants of Ephraim Bump.

Ephraim Bump (1809-1882) married Hannah Blakeslee (1815-1840) and then her sister, Clarissa Blakeslee (1823-1897). Ephraim was the son of Roswell and Phebe (Chamberlain) Bump. His wives were daughters of Rev. Abel and Clarissa (Munson) Blakeslee. This family lived primarily in Windham and Ashland, Greene County, NY.
