I'd like to thank everyone for their information, and add my own. I, too, have been looking for the parents of Valentine Bunce.

According to family info: Valentine Morris Bunce was born 9/3/1821 and died 9/2/1880 in Gray, NY. He married Cynthia Peabody on 9/4/1846. Census records indicate that he was a farmer, but we have a picture (he's quite handsome!) on which someone has written that he was a Quaker schoolteacher. We also have an obituary for Madison H. Bunce of Herkimer County, whom I now believe was his brother. He lived 7/28/1833 - 8/6/1916. He was the son of Jacob and Nancy Baryhydt -- so this presumably was Valentine's parents as well. Jacob's father was Lodewick Bunce (Lodowick Bunt) who fought against the British in Cooper's Rangers, later the Second Regiment under Col. Philip Van Cortland. See the book 'New York in the Revolution - as Colony and State' by James A. Roberts (there's info on line too).
