Sorry for the long delay. I cannot connect the Bunce's you are looking for to mine. However if you assume that Florence was born around 1900 there is one in the 1901 census for London. There is also one who dies in London in 1948. This could be who you are looking for. I have no current subscription for Ancestry so cannot look further but it may be worth you taking one out as it is a fairly unusual name to research. You8 can also contact others who have a registered Bumce family tree.

Good Luck

Keith

Margaret Chalmers born 9 Aug 1931 to John William Chalmers and Rose Crouch. First marriage to Edmund McLaughlin b1936 Belfast d2007 Belfast. They married in 1952. Their children were Roger b 8 Jan 1953, Paul b 1954, Melinda Jane b 5 Apr 1956, Ian b 11 Sep 1957 and Janet b 25 Aug 1959. They must have gotten divorced because Margaret married again to Harry Kitchener Bunce and their children were James Henry b 2o Sep 1962, Karen Joy b 1963 and Jonathan William b 19 Mar 1966. Somehow their surname got mispronounced and they are called Bance now.

FLORENCE EVELYN NIGHTINGALE BUNCE

Please ignore any previous message (in 1999).
I'm desperately looking for any information about my maternal grandmother Florence.
I don't know and can't find ANY details about her except that she gave birth to my mother EILEEN ELIZABETH BUNCE on 22.01.1928 in Camberwell, London and the birth was registered by Florence and the baby's father WILLIAM ABBOTT, who had disappeared by 1930.
Florence gave my mother up for adoption on 4th April 1930 when she was living at 10, Leander Road, Lambeth SW2 2LH.
I have no idea of when/where Florence was born or what became of her after 1930.
All four names for Florence are definitely correct.
PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE.

I noted that in the bunce family lineage, there is a Hoffman family, and the eldest son was Edwin Hoffman b. Oct 30, 1798 in Hartford, Ct. 30 years ago, I lived in the Edwin Hoffman house in Manchester, Ct. It was known to be one of the older houses in town, and I did the research to have the house listed on the town registry of historic houses. Unfortunately, it's present owner decided to demolish it over the objections of the Manchester Historical Society. If anyone is a Hoffman or a Bunce relative and would like a picture and history of the house, contact me, and i will supply it.

Not sure if we can be of help to each other. I am researching a Captain James Bunce abt 1785 (I think Hampshire) who married an Ellen Teape and had William Pepperell Bunce, Elizabeth Bunce, James Bunce and Richard Bunce. Capt James Bunce died October, 1829. I believe he was in Exeter at the time. I know he had properties in East Stonehouse. He was in His Britannic Majesty's Navy. His sons James and Richard lived in South Australia and then Victoria.
Does anyone have any information on this family?
Thanks,
Trisha

Hi Jo
Thank you for your message. There are many bells ringing in your information. I had to check a few details with my mum's cousin who is also researching the Bunces which why I didn't reply straight away.

We had established that John Bunce originated from Great Marlow but had not found any baptisms etc to support this. However Sue does have John's Indenture certificate into the art of cordwaining from 1811. This states that he was a labourer at Great Marlow and it was paid by his (great?) uncle, Thomas Bunce. Varous other details you mentioned fit with our research there. We hadn't found John's sister Caroline though, so that is very interesting. May I ask where you were able to find this information because we have been searching for ages to find John's parents.

We also knew about Louisa marrying Thomas Gaylard. I wasn't aware of the Unitarianism but I think Sue was. Thomas Gaylard seemed to officiate over several marriages and funerals in the family.
If you would like to discuss this further my email is moleyhill@tiscali.co.uk

Pauline
She is burried in Linden, Michigan cemetery southwest part of Genesee county. She is buried alone, Aaron hasn't shown up yet. I'm looking at a photo of George - union soldier that hangs in my office jcs

Hi Moleyhill,
I was searching the net today and saw your post about your Bunce ancestry in Bristol, UK. I think we may be related. My grandmother's maiden name was Bunce and I have done extensive research into her family history. Her grandfather (my great great grandfather) was Alfred James Bunce (1847-1926). He was the son of Thomas Bunce whose brother was John Bunce. I am 99.9% certain that this is the same John Bunce who married Harriet Cull in 1831. Their parents, my 4x great grandparents, were John Bunce and Mary Loosley who married at Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, UK in 1798. Their son, John Loosley Bunce (who married, I believe, Harriet Cull) was baptised at Great Marlow in 1800. A daughter, Caroline was also baptised at Great Marlow in 1801. Their son Thomas Bunce, my 3x great grandfather, was baptised at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire in 1805 and a fourth child, William, was also baptised there in 1807. After 1807 the family left Buckinghamshire and migrated to Bristol. My 3x great grandfather, Thomas Bunce, married in Bristol in 1827. He was a tailor by trade but his sons, like their maternal grandfather, carried on the trade of boot and shoe making, as did their uncle John Loosley in the 1841 census. As well as being heavily involved in the manufacture of shoes (they owned several small manufacturies and a number of shops), the family were also devout Unitarians with interests in social reform. This centred around the Unitarian Meeting House at Lewins Mead, Bristol. I note that Louisa Bunce, sister of your ancestor Henry Bunce, married Thomas Gaylard at Bristol in 1900. Thomas Gaylard died in 1948 and his obituary states 'The Rev. Thomas Gaylard was the grand old man of Unitarianism throughout the West of England....as Secretary of Lewin’s Mead, Bristol, as Minister of the Lewin’s Mead Mission for 14 years, and as Secretary of the Western Union for over 13 years'. This connection with Unitarianism is another strong suggestion that Louisa's grandfather, John Bunce, was indeed the brother of my 3x great grandfather Thomas Bunce. Various dates also fit. However, I have not yet seen a definitive document which absolutely proves the link, everything so far being circumstantial, although I am sure there is a Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Will or such like linkage documents awaiting examination. I have quite a lot of information about the Bunce family, including the Will of John Bunce (husband of Mary Loosley) which he made in 1831. Curiously, the only beneficiaries were his son Thomas Bunce and daughter Caroline Woodward (nee Bunce). There was no mention of his other two sons, John Loosley Bunce or William Bunce (perhaps because they were not yet married). I believe that William married Charlotte Tuff in 1835 although this is speculation. When your ancestor John Bunce died in 1842, his widow, Harriet Bunce (nee Cull) remarried in 1848. Her second husband was George Duffett. She died in 1874 aged 68.
Does any of this strike a chord with your research? Were you aware of the Unitarian connection? Did you know about Rev. Thomas Gaylard? Did you know of the connection with boot and shoe manufacturing? Have you established contact with any other Bunce relations from these lines?
I'd be interested in your feedback on this.
Jo

Hi, I've just found the thread about Bunces in the UK. I know your post is quite old, but I'd be very interested to know more about your branch as it seems to have had a link with Kent. My6XG grandfather, Edward Bunce (1694-1750), lived in Ham, near Sandwich in Kent. His daughter Jane (1731-1791) married John Curling with whom she had 12 children, including a son named Bunce (christian name) Curling. I would love to know if you have them on your tree and would be happy to share any of my info which might be helpful to you. Best wishes LucyAnn Curling

Dear Stuart - I realise that your message is 11 years old! However, I'm just trying to follow up my Bunce ancestors who were in Ham, Kent (UK) in the 17th and 18th centuries. I wondered whether you or your father have any information on the Kent branch of the family. My 5XG grandmother in the paternal line was Jane nee Bunce and her husband was John Curling. They lived in Ham and had 12 children, all baptised in the little church there.
Best wishes
LucyAnn Curling

Just in case it's of any help, I have a 6XG grandfather, Edward Bunce who lived in Ham near Sandwich (truly) in Kent. His dates were 1694-1750. So far I have only found 2 daughters, one, Jane, being my 5Xgreatgrandmother, one of whose sons was Bunce (Christian name) Curling. But I haven't been looking for other siblings so there may well have been sons. Wheler Bunce is recorded as Rector from Nov 11 1774 and Hasted's notes on the parish of Ham include this on the church: "It consists of a nave and chancel, having a small wooden pointed turret at the west end, in which is one bell. In the chancel are several memorials for the Bunces, of this parish." At some point I will be going again to Canterbury Cathedral Archives and will look for more info on this Bunce family. If you're interested I would be happy to pass on anything I find. Best wishes LucyAnn Curling

Hi, I am a Bunce from NZ although not one of your family as our lot arr here mid 1860s. However, Bunce is a rare name in NZ so I'm sure if you search the white pages of Telecom NZ you will trace your family. Don't try the Invercargill or Alexandra families as they are my family. There are only about 5 other families in NZ so your search should be easy. Good luck

Re: Charles Franklin Bunce

I am related to Rhoda Malinda BAY who married Charles Franklin BUNCE. I found a tree that says Charles Franklin BUNCE is buried in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co, MO... I have no proof of that however, and am interested in an obit. to see if Rhoda BAY BUNCE survived him. I wonder if they had children? Rhoda Malinda BAY BUNCE had older siblings that had married into GADBERRY family. Have you got any info?

Trying to find children of Malcolm Harry Bunce, born 9 Sept 1945 in Watford, Herts, England. I know that as a child, he moved with his mother to South Africa but later returned to England. He died in Feb 2005 in Hammersmith and Fulham area.

Malcolm has two surviving brothers, Roy and Clive, who would very much like to find any nieces and nephews that they may have.

Thanks...
