Hi Bryce. Can I just get you into context on the family tree? Are David and Gwyneth Bunny your parents? Or Rupert and Elizabeth? Your family tree ties in with my records - I have Richard Bunny as born 'about 1581'. I too have read all about the Donnington Square development. Such is the power of the internet, that what would have taken painstaking research for earlier generations to discover, is now open for all to see at a click. Henry fled the coup and was subsequently struck off by the Law Society. Jere never recovered. He was a partner in the bank and the loss must have been substantial in those days, and I suspect that Jere had to recompense his brother in law, Slocock. Henry sailed to NZ with his brother in law, Rev Arthur Baker, and applied to the NZ Bar for membership. He is sponsored by Arthur Baker, but fails to tell the Bar that they are related! Later, this is discovered and Henry becomes the first NZ lawyer to be disbarred. The brother in law also becomes involved in a scandal and is branded 'the horse-whipped vicar' by the press! Baker sues the press for defamation and eventually wins, but is awarded only token damages by the court. The rumours persist and eventually he is forced to return to England. Meanwhile Henry prospers, this time doing rather better out of property than at Donnington! He becomes an MP. A bit of a colourful, but ultimately quite successful rogue I suppose. I don't know much about Edward William Bunny, other than he went to Eton and Oriel College Oxford, and then became a lawyer. He emigrated to NZ, possibly before Brice left for Australia, late 1840's, and did I think follow a legal career in NZ. But I am not sure whether he ever married. You can reach me at
