Hi Heather,

I'm very pleased to hear from you!
I am descended from Edith Lilian Bunny, eldest child of Herbert Bunny, of Akaroa. His parents were John Bunny and Sarah Blackbee.
I have a feeling you are descended from Elizabeth Mabel, my grandmother's younger sister? She married Robert Leslie Kingston, and they had 5 children, I think. I would love to know more about that family!
Other relatives and I have collected a huge amount of information on the Bunny/Blackbee/Rowe/Trenwith/Lackner/Chatterton etc families, which I would be delighted to share with you.
I am in Twickenham, UK, so I can't pop round!
Please reply to my email address chris.lackner@tesco.net and I can then send family tree to your email.
Excited to hear from you!
Regards,
Chris

Hi there
we are indeed from two different lines.
However my research indicates that the was a Bunny line in the Nottingham area in the 1300s. There was also a line in Yorkshire in the 14/500 another in Hampshire, mine, who moved to Newbury Berkshire around 1600 and a third in Cornwall from the early 1600s onwards.
I believe theyall MAY have originated from the same area!
John, Richard, Robert, William and thomas seem to be the recuring names.
Any ideas?
I have a tree, compiled buy a cousin for a family reunion that I could share.
Regards.
Wayne Bunny.

Wayne,
"our" Bunnys are descended from John Bunny who was born about 1835 at Castle Donington, Leicestershire, England. He came on his own to Lyttleton, Canterbury, NZ on board the Victory in 1859. He married Sarah Maria Blackbee in 1863 and had 8 children. I am descended from the third of these, Herbert Bunny. The family settled in Akaroa, Canterbury.
There is another Bunny family in NZ who apparently came from Donington in Berkshire, and produced a lot of solicitors. From memory (I started researching them when I thought tey were my Bunny family)a number of tem came out to NZ so there are a lot more descendants of that family.
Chris

George had a daughter, Mary Ann Elizabeth Bunny, who I think was 10 years older than Matthew (1851 census). This is my husband's gt,gt grandmother. It seems as though the family travelled around quite a bit as Mary was born in Whitstable in Kent and other children were born in Sussex and Bethnal Green. I've only just started researching this side of the family - do you know much about them? Do you know anything about the coast guard death (John Bunny)?

Have you had any contact yet with the other related Bunny descendants living in Wellington yet. My wifes Aunt Evelyn's daughter Noelle and grandchildren and great grandchildren still live locally. One of the grandaughters Michaela is a professional Historian aand also an avid Bunny researcher. Isn't it funny the number of 'legal eagles' the family seems to have generated. (plus 3 Mayors that I know of), The firm of which my my late F in Law was a foundation member, has over the years now grown with mergers and aquisitions to possibly the largest in OZ. I understand the old man's painted portrait overlooks the firms boardroom.

Wayne, I believe that Frederick's Grandfather (Richard), was Judge Bunny's nephew. He studied architecture and possibly law also in the UK but I am unsure if he qualified in either discipline. He came to Australia around 1860 and took out a selection in the Heatherton area, now part of suburban Melbourne. There is a road named after the Bunny family originally known as Bunny lane. He was apparently considered quite the 'English gentleman' and others seemed. His grandson Alexander my wife's uncle, once told me an amusing story of his transplanting a lettuce upside down when first taking up his selection. Not surprisingly others did most of the 'hard yacker' according to family legend which also tells of his being frequently consulted by his market gardener nieghbour's on legal and business matters. The Berkshire connection in an interesting one, what part of the county was that I wonder.

I married Joyce Evelyn Bunny in Wellington NZ in 1952, She was born in Melbourne where we both now reside. She has one sister Dorothy. Their father was Frederick Ernest Bunny. He was born on the land but went on to become a prominent Melbourne solicitor. His sister Evelyn already referred to elsewhere, settled in New Zealand during ww2. Other siblings were sister Jess, and Alexander a market gardener. The family shares lineage with the famous Australian artist Rupert Bunny son of Judge Bunny who was the first Mayor of St Kilda in Melbourne. It is thought the name may originally have been Bunet and in Paris there was and still may be, a lawfirm of that name . Many years ago I visited Ann Hathaways Cottage in Stratford on Avon and in it there was an antique grandfather clock with the inscription on its dial "Bunny Clockmaker Nottingham". During the persecution of the Hugenouts many of them migrated to the Midlands of England, perhaps it is not unduly speculative to imagine clockmaker Bunny's family to have been one of these French refugees. There are a number of Bunny cousins also living in Melbourne. Hope this is of some interest.

Hello Margie

Checked my database, and nothing [so far] on an Arthur Bunny or Bunney. Sorry.

Have you had a look at www.familysearch.org? It has 2 "Arthur Bunny" entries in Cornwall when looking at the English 1881 census records.

The first one was born in 1879 in St Austell [residing with mother Elizabeth, age 30, born in Truro and sister Adelaide, age 1, also born in St. Austell.

The second is Arthur Bunney, age 3, born and living in St. Blazey. Parents are Thomas [age 35, carpenter & joiner] and Kate, age 32. Siblings: Mabel, age 7; Ernest, age 6; Bertha, age 4; Ethel, age 2; Ada, age 10 months [the entire group all born in St. Blazey].

I don't know if this matches up with any possible dates you have for your Arthur, but thought I would pass it on. Good luck in your research. If I run across anything re an "Arthur Bunney", I'll try to forward to you. Cheers.

I found a bit more info on my great aunt Camille Maciukiewicz (Mack) Bunny. Her husband was Edwin. She passed away in 1979. They had 3 children, Bud (?a lawyer who moved to Indianapolis, and died of cancer in his 40's or the 1940s), Peg (who married a Simon, and was a professional? golfer), and Jean (who married a Forsythe). If you know any of these people, I'd love to hear from you. email: hippocampus_ca3@msn.com

Kelly.
An examination of the family tree wouls seem to indicate that your family is a different one to mine.
Henry Bunny was born 7-10-1823 at Speenhill Newbury Berkshire England. He had a son Fredrick John Bunny who was born 27-10-1850 and died i-4-1876 in Southland New Zealand but without issue as far as we can tell.
However John was a common name in the Bunny family. I have seen many refrences to John in a Cornwall family from around 1660.
I also have a handwritten fragment of a family tree given to me by Bishop Brian Carrell of christchurch that shows a marrage licence for Herbert Bunny who married Elizabeth Rowe. Herberts father was John Bunny and his mother was Sarah Maria Blackbee. This was in Akaroa in 1892. Any help to you? If so I could get you a copy and the address of Bishop Carrell.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been away for a few days.
The material that you have noted is fascinating. If the "gentleman" you are refering to is indeed a nephew of Judge Bunny he would be a nephew of Henry as well. I would love to have more details.
The Berkshire connection is from the town of Newbury to the west of London U.K. where the father of Brice and Henry was a solicitor and onetime Lord Mayor of the town.he was called Jere and is buried in the Anglican Church of St. Nicholas Newbury. There was also a Fredrick who came to N.Z. he was another brother of Brice and Henry. I am aware that there was a fourth brother Arthur who became an Artillary officer in the Indian Army and fought at Lucknow. Howere I have never heard of Richard.
Any material that you have about these facinating connections would be gret to read.
Regards.
Wayne.

I am looking for information about my gr-gr grandfather William Bunny. I don't know alot - just that he was born in England Oct 22, 1868 and died in Wier, Kansas in 1944. His wife was Sarah Ann Cowsill, and they had 2 daughters, Elizabeth Jane (my gr grandmother), born in 1896 in Kansas and Rachel, born in I think 1907. I believe Sarah died shortly after (or during) Rachel's birth. I would like to know where in England he was born and who his parents were. Any information would be helpful!
I have been searching for the family of Matthew Bunny, born 1820 in England. He married Isabella Skerratt. These are my husband's ggrandparents. So little is known of his family since they were in England and my husband's grandparents came to the US to find work. You mentioned a John Bunny and his 13 children, all accounted for. Would there be a Matthew among them? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Kathy
