Virgil Buntrock was born August 29, 1925, in Vernon Springs Township, Cresco, Iowa, the son of Fred and Anna (Smith) Buntrock. He was a graduate of Cresco High School.
Following his education, Virgil entered the United States Navy.
On September 16, 1950, Virgil was united in marriage to Etta Tenney in Cresco, Iowa. The couple made their home in Cresco where they raised their children. Virgil was a self-employed painter. He was a member of the Cresco American Legion Post 135 for 64 years and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Virgil enjoyed golfing and bowling.
On Saturday, December 26th, Virgil passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Etta of Emmetsburg; children: Patricia and her husband, Gerald Theesfeld, James Buntrock and his wife, Jan, Karyn Davis, Ronald Buntrock, and Denise Buntrock; brother, Ralph Buntrock; sister, Cecilia “Bunny” and her husband, Dale DeSart; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale; infant son, Virgil Jr. and his brother, Harold.

Service: A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30th at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in St. John’s Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 2295 of Emmetsburg.
