Hi:
Thanks for the reply. I had an old sampler - 1837 - it had the Bunts family history which I wanted to pass on to
a Bunts. I got a reply from someone in Frederick, Md. and
gave it to her.

thanks anyway
Jeri Witt

I am a Bunts family member whose lineage is from Wythe County VA,my ggggrandfather was probably John Bunts, shown in 1810 & 1820 censuses. No record of him or his spouse, Susannah appears in VA after 1821. The family unit seems to fit the 1830 Miami twnshp,Hamilton Cty. census listing. Can anyone furnish any details of this family after 1830?
Yes, I believe we are cousins. I believe you may have talked with my sister Kitty (Katherine Wilkinson). I am planning a trip to Ohio in Oct. I hope to gain some information from the venture. We have our Grand-father Reuben's journel he wrote in 1853 and 1854. I would like to talk with you sometime on the phone. Maybe we can get something worked out.

Eli Easterwood was born in Ohio about 1832; nothing else known about his parents, siblings. Some Easterwoods came from Holland > NY or CAN. Name originally might have been Oosterhout. Some Easterwoods changed the name to Eastwood, but not Eli...census, military all say Easterwood. Have found Easterwood/Eastwood in censuses all across northern Ohio, but have not made the connection to Eli.

Connection to Bunts: Eli's wife, Mary Ann Trader, had a brother Isaac who married Elizabeth Bunts about 1854 in Kentucky just south of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Janet: I have no Easterwoods in my research notes of the Bunts family.
What part of the U.S. did the Easterwoods live in, and did they belong to a German Reformed or Dutch Refomed? If you know that info. we may be able to trackdown the address of a sucessor church. For instance, the Dutch Reformed Church in the Akron area became Grace Evanglical Reformed of Akron, and that church merged into the United Church of Christ.

PMc: Any luck with further transcription? I am interested in anything you would care to share.

I am still poking about trying to find the parents of Harmon A. Bunts b. 7/16/1838 Ellsworth, then Trumbull & now Mahoning Cos., OH. d. 7/4/1893 Akron, Summit Co., OH.

I am certain our branches spring from the same tree; the challenge is to find the documentation.

jrmaxwel@owu.edu (note only the one L)

New Bunts info from 1854 diary of Reuben Wesley Bunts

This information was written in the hand of Reuben Wesley Bunts. This specific entry was undated. The diary goes back as far as 1854. There are also some entries at the back dated many years later. He appears to have began the diary with daily entries for about a year as a young man. Later it seems he used it on a less frequent basis for longer entries, medicinal entries, and other info. I'm still working my way through the VERY tiny OLD script on the few pages I have from here.I have copies of a few pages from this diary and am waiting for relative to get me copies of the whole diary within the next couple of weeks. Some of these dates vary slightly from what I have found posted elsewhere on the net. I'll leave it up to you as to which you use. Sorry to post this as Bible but don't know what else to put it under.
More on Reuben Wesley Bunts

Reuben Wesley Bunts was born in Ohio as mentioned in the last message I posted. He traveled to Wisconsin in 1854. He rode part of the way on a stagecoach, then train, then lumber wagon. His uncle (name unknown at this time) was already in Wisconsin. Reuben bought various pieces of land in Wisc. over the years. Later, he received a government land deed signed by President Buchanan.

Reuben kept a journal. A living relative is going to try to track down which of his sisters/brothers has it so that I may read it. This information comes from Reuben's living grandson who has read the journal. The deed is in the possession of another relative of mine though over the years the seal has fallen off (it was on it as of a couple of decades ago though).

Apparently, Reuben was also a schoolteacher at some point at Mount Hope Wisconsin. There are apparently a few days of attendance records included in his journal for that school.

Harmon Martin Bunts / Reuben Wesley Bunts / Benjamin Wesley Bunts

I am a great grand-daughter of Harmon martin Bunts. Reuben Wesley was his father. Harmon was born 2 april 1902, Woodman Township, Grand County, Wisconsin. He was married 15 Dec 1925, Dubugque, Iowa, and died 11 Novemeber 1980 at Mount Hope Wisconsin. He is buried at ethlehem Cemetery, Rail Hollow Road, Mount Hope Township, Grant County, Wisconsin. He was marreid to Sarah Gladys Tittle (born 27 Nov 1909, Garnavillo, Iowa, died 1984 in Wisconsin, buried at the same cemetery as her husband (above).

Harmon was the son of Reuben Wesley Bunts. Reuben was born Jan 1834 at Alliance, Trumbull County, Ohio. He was married four times. His third wife died in 1899. By 1902, he had not only remarried but his new wife had borne him two additional children. He was 68 when Harmon was born. His wife was 29 when she married him (obviously many years his junior....but do remember she was a fourth wife). Her name (the 4th wife) was Viola Josephine Setzer (I am not 100% positive on the spelling of her maiden name,Setzer). She died in 1955. She is supposed to be from Magnolia Corners, Rock County, Wisconsin. She is also buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, exact location listed earlier in this message.

REueben's father is Benjamin Wesley Bunts. He died in Ohio, probably Alliance and is supposed to be buried there. His mother is Elizabeth Gee. She died when Reuben was 18 months old of Pneumonia. She is also buried at Bethlehem Cemetery.

Harmon and Sarah had 13 children. As a number of them are still living, I will not list those at this time (specifically, one died at six weeks of age but the other 12 all made it to adulthood. 6 are still living. They were born over a span of time stretching from 1927 to 1951. They were all full sisters and brothers born to Harmon and Sarah (no step parents).

If you need more information on soem of this, please feel free to e-mail me!

The death certificate for Harmon A. Bunts arrived on Friday.

The good news is the d.c. lists his place of birth as Ellsworth, OH.
The bad news is, no names for parents' were listed.

The death certificate says he was 54 yrs, 11 months, and 18 days old. I am revising my guess on his dob to late July or early August, 1839. (Previously guessed June).

Any "educated guesses" on Harmon A.'s parentage?

In the 1860 census (recorded 6/12) I found Harmon A BUNCE, age 21, b.OH, carpenter, with Richard age 51, b.NY, carpenter & Catherine J. age 46, b.NY. in Ravenna, Portage Co., OH. Also in the household were Mary O. age 16, b. OH, apprentice millner/at school w/in the year & Alexandra H. age 13, b. OH, at school w/in the year.

On 7/25/1860 Harmon BUNTS, age 22, b.OH,carpenter, is in Brimfield twnshp, Portage Co., OH, with Benjamin age 28, carpenter & Henrietta age 28, b.PA. Also in the household is Ermina (hard to read) female age 4, b.OH.

As Harmon A. Bunts dob was 7/16/1838 the age variance makes sense. Assume that in June he was in his Father's house, and that in July he was in his Brother's house.

Found in the Portage Co. Probate Ct. records: marriage of Henrietta McManis & Benjamin BUETS, 9/23/1854.

I can not locate Alexandra and Mary O. in 1870 or 1880; I assume they married & changed their last names. I have not found Richard & Catherine to date in the 1870 or 1880 census.

In 1870 Benjamin & Henrietta BANCE, are living in a rooming house in Akron, Summit Co.,OH --- Ermina. By 1880 Henrietta is widowed and living at the Infirmary in Portage twnshp, Summit Co., OH.

I am now searching for the household of Richard & Catherine in the 1850 census.
