Hi Margaret,

Thank you for the message. The Hazell's did end up moving to St. Vincent and namely Bequia. Our Grandfather Edward Vincent Hazell was born there in 1899.

(Our G-grandfather) Edward James Hazell married Emily Editha Bunyan on Bequia. Before that the Hazell's were born in Little Bay, Isle a Quatre

Edward James Hamilton "Hammy" Hazell son of Thomas William Hazell and Angelina King was born in 1868 in Little Bay, Isle a Quatre, BWI. He died on 17 May 1951.

Emily Editha Bunyan-Bonyan daughter of Charles Johnson Bunyan-Bonyan and Georgiana Spencer was born on 27 Jul 1873 in St. George, Barbados[2]. She died in 1954.

If you email me at alfh1@yahoo.com, I will send you a genealogy report. Also, what time zone are you in? We are EST.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours,
~Annette

Annette,
Some info for you - I checked Barbados Phone book and was unable to locate any Bunyuns, however the following persons are listed in St. Vincent phone book. I believe that there were also a stock of Hazells (also spelt Hassell/Hazel) living in Bequia.

Bunyan Andrew & Oslyn
Mt Pleasant Bequia - Telephone: 784-457-3147
Bunyan Ekron
Port Elizabeth Bequia Telephone: 784-457-3284
Bunyan George T
Belmont Bequia Telephone: 784-458-3416
Bunyan Kelvin
Pt Elizabeth Bequia Telephone: 784-458-3351
Bunyan Vesta
Belmont Bequia Telephone: 784-457-3831

Regards
Margaret

Thanks for your reply. My mother seems to think that Ella was a shortened version of my G.Gmother's name. She thinks the names of the boys taken to America were possibly Jack and Gerald, the girls are Edna and Euna. Edna made visits to America to see her dad and brothers. Our Mr Hazell is of white stock and Ella possibily a Mulatto.
I am awaiting additional info from B'dos Records Office, will post any info that may be relevant to your search.
The are apartments in B'dos called 'Banyan Court Apts' maybe orignally owned by your family - tel 246 426 2815/9482.
Good Luck!

Hi,

I have not heard of your Ella. She is most likely part of the tree but I'm not sure where she fits in. Most of the Hazell's worked/owned ships. Do you have the first name of the Hazell that she married? I may be able to help you in that regard if you do.

Sincerely,
~Annette

My family are Hazells from Barbados now living in the UK. My great grandmother was a Spencer (not sure of her first name but I believe she was called Ella)I have no proof of this as yet. I was told that she married a Mr Hazell who worked on a ship (not sure of rank but his uniform was white shirt and shorts). They had 4 children - 2 girls born in 1902 and 1912 respectively, I do not know the birth years of the 2 boys. When my great grandmother died, Mr. Hazell left the girls in Barbados and took the 2 boys to live with him in America. Burial records at Westbury Cemetery in B'dos shows a Ella Spencer died in 1922 age 49, which will make her birth year 1873, her abode is listed at the same address in B'dos where my family originated from.

From my database of parish register of Pembroke St Mary for the period covering baptism 1847 to 1895 I note
22 May 1884 Emmeline Anne to William & Mary Jane Bunyan of Golden Hall a labourer in HM Dockyard baptised by W. Jones
Mary Jane Hopla is shown as the dau of Isaac and Eliza in 1881 and declares she was born in Pembroke. However I can confirm that she was not baptised at either Pembs St Mary or St Michael, nor can I find her in any surrounding parishes circa 1861.
Isaac Hopla mrd Eliza Nicholas in 1855.
From my database of the parish registers of Pembroke St Michael covering all events 1711 to 1950’s I note in the parish register covering baptisms 1813 to 1839
04 Jan 1835 Isaac to George & Martha Hopla of the Grove a labourer baptised by James Dalton (James was a curate at this time)
Eliza Nicholas was baptised at Monkton 20 Mar 1835 to George & Mary Nicholas

I believe George Nicholas of Mouncton mrd Mary Phillips at Yerbeston 07 Feb 1829

I believe the ‘Mother’ Martha Hopla shown in 1881 is the wife of a George Hopla and from my database of parish registers of Pembroke St Michael from the register which covers Mrge 1814 to 1837 I note
22 Jun 1833 George Hopla a bach of Pembroke St Michael mrd Martha Childs a spinster of Pembroke St Michael by banns in front of James Dalton. Both signed their names in the presence of William Hopla and George Froyne
(George Froyne was Parish Clerk at this time a position that had been and would remain in the Froyne family for generations)
From my database of parish registers of Pembroke St Michael for baptism covering the period 1813 to 1839 I note ;
Mary Ann Childs a natural child of Martha Childs of the Eastend baptised by James Dalton.
From my database of Pembroke St Michael from the baptism register which covers the period 1796 to 1812 I note
07 Apr 1802 George to Stephen & Eliz: Hopler baptised
(one of 4 children to Stephen and Eliz: in this register)

I trust the above is of some assistance to your research.

Rgds
Orielbenfro
ORIEL a welsh window on a surname
I know these posts are quite dated now, but here's hoping ... I have found out that my 4 x Great-Grandmother was a Sarah Bunyan b.1770 (approx.) & she married on 4/6/1792 in Layston, Herts. to William Poulter.

Seems a lot of Bunyans (and their various spellings!) around the north of Hertfordshire (Walkern espeically which is where my Sarah & William Poulter settled) - any help appreciated!

Thought I would reply to you as soon as I could. Unfortunately I am undergoing health treatments for next few months, but when I get my strength back I will pass on anything I may have re the Bunyans. You may want to check the North Bay Ontario records as I believe that Richard Bunyan settled there. Hope to help in the future.
Paula,
I am trying to prove the daughter of Sarah Bunyan and William Savage is my great grmother. Mine was Elizabeth Hawkins nee Savage but I have no age or birthplace. She died before they had to be legally on NZ certificates. I traced the Elizabeth born 1839, Walken, dau of Sarah and William Savage to London via census's and am almost 100% sure she is mine but I need proof.
I have to follow every avenue and hope by finding Savage/Bunyan kin they may have a family bible or a family story of an Elizabeth Savage/Hawkins who came to NZ.
I do have the birth certificate of Elizabeth to William and Sarah and have traced the Savage lines but have no information on Bunyan family. If I am right tho it would make the Bunyan line mine too. Trouble is I have to prove it. This search has taken me over 25 years and 8 trips to the Family History library in Salt Lake City.Let me know if you want the information on Savage.
Noeleen.
Just a long shot.
In the 1850's in Pembroke Ontario Canada, 2 families of Bunyans were pioneers. John and Micheal Bunyan were the brothers who came with their oldest children. They had more children in Pembroke and were farmers. Michael was married to a Nancy Garrity, however his oldest 2 children list Margaret McCormick as their mother. If this rings a bell with anyone pls email me. mlwpmckenzie@rogers.com

When you received that letter in 1982 was there any mention of the status of Irene or Maurice or Edward. Did the letter come from Anna? She was living in Ozone Park at that time. She passed away in 1990. Were there any children who are still alive today? If so do you know where they are currently living?

Bunyans from Watton, Herts

Trying to research Elizabeth Bunyan, and who her parents were?
I know that she was born in Watton, Herts around 1858, though some census list her birth year as 1861. Married Joel Sams from Waterford, Herts in 1875. Soon after they moved to Lincolnshire. Had several children, when Joel died in 1904 she remarried Henry Kendall

Have always been led to believe there was a family scandal though never knew exactly what, wonder now if it had something to do with her age, for to be born in 1861 meant she would have been only 14 when she married.
Would like to hear from anyone who maybe researching Elizabeth or any of her relatives.

The variations of the name have been used on birth and marriage certificates.
The spelling in 1600 was Bonyan and Bonyon, taken from digitized records, so I am not sure where the spelling errors have occurred.
