I know of this marriage as I have records of two of their children in Davos in the 1800s, but I have yet to uncover Verena's parentage. In my searching through the Davos church books I'm currently in the 1620s, so it will be some time before I make the connection to Verena

Peggy, I sent you an email when you posted at another thread. Did you get that email? I don't know of a mailing list. Davos does have lots of very informative church books, as well as a lot of other community books, all of which have been microfilmed by the Family History Library. At http://www.familysearch.org you can search for regional Family History Centers, hopefully near your area, where you can order the microfilm you want.

I do have a record of a Verena Buol, born in 1762 to Ulrich Buol and Anna Rüedi in Davos-Frauenkirch. Could this be your ancestor? Do you know what part of Davos she was born in?

Genealogy Project: Buols in America

I have done research on Buol families in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, and somewhat in Nevada, and after recently getting copies of the whole Stammbaum der Familie Buol, I am planning to begin this fall a project to update the Stammbaum in several ways:

1) To update as much as possible all information, including the continuation of Buols in Switzerland, and also providing supplementary information on any lines that the Stammbaum may have missed

2) To create a similar Stammbaum for Buols in America. I would use the same original 19 original Stammbaum Tables and within each table document members from that branch who immigrated to America and the subsequent lines descended from them.

3) To chart all descendants of Buols, not just through the male line that carries the Buol name.

If you would like to contribute, please email me at the address listed when you click on my name.

I'm not aware of anyone in my immediate family that has any research on a file.My grandfather never spoke of his family as he was kind of an outcast and he left Minnesota for southern Wisconsin.A family member tapped into the Wabasha MN Historical Society and found what information we do have.My great grandfather,Peter Buol was born in Switzerland in 1858 to Christ and Katherine (Loitscher) Buol.Peter came to America in 1880.His brothers also came.Bart and John to California.Valentine to South Dakota and Andrew-not sure where.Peter had the following children;Rosa-1885;Louisa-1887;Christ-1889;John-1892;Lawrence(my grandfather)1894;Dorothy-1897;and Bartley-1900.
None of this is probably what you are looking for but like I said my grandfather didn't speak of his family.I have to believe all of the Buol's in this country are related. The name is so rare, misspelled, and mis-pronounced as any other.
I will mention the other Buol family in Green county.John is the head of that branch. He has done extensive research on his side to when the name was spelled differently. His phone number is 608-424-6128.Belleville WI.I've spoken to him and seen his research. He likes to talk about it.
Hope this helps.
Mike Buol
New Glarus

The name Loitscher was the maiden name of my great-great-grandmother Marianne Caroline who married Jacob Christen in 1829 in Vinetz, Canton Bern. Their daughter Ida Caroline (Christen) Trincano was born in 1838 in Ruegsau, Canton Bern, Switzerland. Do you have any information regarding the Loitscher family? I am desperately trying to add them to my history of our family and I can't go back any further than Marianne's father, Johann Peter Loitscher. . Any answer, "Yea or nay" would be gratefully received. Thanks,
Gerry Hyde

Dear Justin - Thank you sooo much for your quick reply. I don't know which has been more confusing, my Loitscher side or Trincano (Swiss/Italian, born in Porruntruy in 1828). The papers that I have that have been in my family since the Trincano/Christen family arrived here in California in 1869 are either in French or German. Even at the age of 79 I can still translate much of the French, but had to ask a former colleague to translate the German (we taught in the same high school). The spelling of Loitscher has appeared as Lortscher and Loertscher on the Morman website, and that's what really threw me off!! (They aren't very good at authenticating their material I've discovered!)
My Loitscher ggggrandfather might have been born in the last quarter of the 18th century. By the way, I have the print-out of the 1998 Swiss telephone directory in which there are 70 entries for Loertscher, and 43 for Lortscher (with two dots over the 'o').
Do you really think you have someone who would help me out??? That would be outstanding as I am really up the proverbial creek without a paddle!.
Please feel free to email me directly at hanahou@pacbell.net. I'm located in Chico, California.
Thanks again for your speedy reply, Justin.
Sincerely, Gerry
Hello Geraldine. I have indeed come upon some information on my Loitscher family, although it is not very thorough by any means. The information I have comes from some pages I have of the Stammbaum der Familie Buol, which the Loitschers intersect at various points. Here's what I know:

My great-great-great grandfather, Christian Buol (1829 - 1900) married Katharina Lötscher. His sister, Margreth Buol (1823 - 1892), married Johann Lötscher (he died and she remarried). Their sister, Magdalena Buol (1825 - 1901), married Christian Lötscher. I presume these Lötschers to all be of the same family.

Katharina's parents were Peter and Dorothea (Engel) Lötscher. I also have record of an Elisabeth (Ruosch) Lötscher being a witness at Peter's baptism.

Also on my sheet of baptism records I can see at other baptisms a Christina (Ruosch) Lötscher; a something Anna Lötscher.

I want to note that the Lötschers in my family appear to be from, to some extent, the town of St. Antönien. They were not near Canton Berne, at least from what knowledge I have, which is quite admittedly limited.

I saw no Trincanos, sorry. That sounds kind of Italian though. To my knowledge my Buol ancestors around that time were in a predominantly German part of Switzerland.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask again. I may be able to give you an email address of someone who could help you with some research.

Justin

I, too, have a Swiss heritage. My ggrandmother was Marianne Caroline (Loitscher) Christen. Her maiden name has been hard to track down. She was christened in Cornaux, Canton Neuchatel, in 1806, and married Jacob Christen in 1829 in Vinelz, Canton Berne, and died in 1880. Her father's name was Johann Peter Loitscher. That's all I have. Have you found anything on your Loitscher family??? Also, have you run across the name of Trincano? That was the married name of Marianne and Jacob's 5th child, my great-grandmother Ida Caroline.. Please provide me with an answer of yea or nay. Many thanks. Sincerely, Gerry Hyde

One of them is an article on a funeral service for Dr. John J. Janett, with a daughter Mrs. Joseph Leberman. That would be a relative of yours?
I'm sure some of these others would be of interest to you as well. I need to see who in the 'tree' I can connect them with. Would you be interested in the descendents of Leonard? I could mail you a hard copy version.
Jeri

Sheila,
This was a message a received from Mary Ann Buol Clemons:
Yes, I hope she emails me because I have a couple newspaper articles that she would love about that family which I am having a hard time figuring out. There is a huge obituary about a Rev Janett which does not state his wife's name. She probably was dead, but nonetheless, you'd think she would be mentioned. At this time of his death he lived with his daughter, Janet Leiberman. In another news article when she visited Leonard and Mary Rose on the farm, it lists her son, Buol Leiberman so I knew there was a strong tie but I didn't know what it was. These two articles are in the copies I gave you. And, of course, I have more information on Leonard's family than she will ever want. I hope she has some information about other of Leonard and Usula's brothers and sisters.

I gave you Mary Ann's e-mail in my reply to you yesterday. Please let me know if you need it sent again.

Jeri

Hey Michael,

Peter Buol is also my great-great-grandfather. My grandfather was Andrew Buol and my father is Jeffrey Buol. I was born in Janesville, although I have been up in St. Paul for the past four years doing college. Up here I have contacted and met other Buols (descendants of Bartley, Lawrence's younger brother). This summer I am actually going to the original homestead that Peter lived in. Should be cool.

Shoot me an email ( buojus@bethel.edu )! I have done some research at the Minnesota Historical Society and have turned up a bit of info. I'm currently trying to locate some Buols in Switzerland so that I can go there and meet them, as well as continue my research.

God bless,

Justin

I am very curious as to the origin of the name "Buol".

I found this information from the Dictionary of American Family Names:

1. Swiss German: of uncertain origin, possibly Ladin or Romansh.

However, this cannot at all be right. My aunts have records tracing back to Ulrich von Buol, who moved to Switzerland from Bohemia in around 1200 AD. So...is it Czech? German? A place? I would love to know.

After my father died Ron and I were sent to live with two different family members but we were able to keep in contact with each other. The others were adopted out and we have been looking for them. It's a long story but one of my cousin on my mother's side, Betty found me and my sister Kathy and reunited us. We are now looking for my sister Gloria and brother David. Do you have any info on them or know someone that might?

I live in Vancouver, Washington, my brother lives in Sadona, Arizona, and my sister new found sister Kathy lives in Omaha, Nebraska. I hope to hear from you, Michael

Ricky, thanks for the reply! I didn't get the email though. Anyway, if your mother or her relatives happened to know anything, I would be very appreciative. One of the problems I'm having is locating the city in Switzerland where Peter came from. If you want to try emailing me again go ahead. I think I have a copy of the portrait you mentioned, but if your is a high quality let me know- my copy is just out of an old 1920 Wabasha County book.

Justin

peter buol is also my great-great-grandfather. This is actually a pretty cool coincidence. I was searching the web for info on my family as well, when i stumbled upon this message. I sent you, justin buol, an email to the address you provided. I am posting this here just incase it didn't arrive. I don't know a whole lot about the peter buol who came to Wabasha in 1882, but when i am going to ask my mother, aunts and uncles what they moight've heard from their father, Peter D Buol, the son of Bartley Buol and grandson of Peter Buol. There is also a family portrait of peter buol with his seven children in my family. If you would like to see it orobtain a copy, let me know.
