darlene olivo,
haven't read the book you referenced. Found most of my info on ancestry.com. way back when there was a lawsuit about some land grants, any my family told me about family tree. it's enjoyable trying to trace it but i'm at a point when i have to get out of the cheap seats and start looking into some of the "locked" records.
new e-mail address is "shirlaj70@hotmail.com" write anytime.
Darlene,
We no longer have the genealogical society, but I can get you a few of the old back issues. Some of those still available had the 1900 Census for a few of the wards, but not all. The "big" book is titled Le Pays des Fleurs Oranges, French for The Land of Orange Blossoms. It covers Buras(Burat), Hingle, Ragas, Lafrance, Cosse, Martin, and many more families from Plaquemines Parish before the World War II period. It is in its second edition, stopping with many people who are now elderly. A second volume of more old stuff and more living people is planned currently, but not ready. E-mail me at blossom13@bellsouth.net for more.

Plaquemines Parish genealogy books

Hello, I am a descendent of Jean Guillame Burat and a whole host of other folks who landed in Plaquemines Parish according to William Stringfield's Les Pays des Fleurs Oranges, which I have obtained through an interlibrary loan from the LA State Library. I'm now living in New Hampshire, so having specific titles would be very helpful in getting other interlibrary loans. I seem to have a dim memory of an announcement of a book that focuses on the Hingle, Ragas and Buras families (perhaps this was the title?), and I don't know if this is a mnemonic hallucination or if there is actually such a book. When I called the Plaquemines Parish library yesterday, the woman didn't seem to know of it. Thanks to all who reply. I'm going to list all the known surnames on my family tree below, even the ones who were progenitors of those who lived in the parish. Sincerely, Darlene (Hingle) Olivo Concord, NH

Darlene,
I am from the LaFrance side of the family. These families intermarried so much it is hard to really distinguish one line from another. There is a geneology society of Plaquemines Parish you might want to contact regarding the Buras family. Good luck in your search.
Viola
