Help to update a Burbank Genealogy

Dear Burbank Family members and researchers,
John R. Burbank of Bristol VT has been working for a number of years on an update to "Genealogy of the Burbank Family and The Families of Bray, Wellcome, Sedgley (Sedgeley) and Welch", by George Burbank Sedgley, The Knowlton McLeary Company, Farmington, Maine, 1928. John periodically publishes "Burbank Banner", a newsletter of general information about Burbanks. Included in each mailing is a printout of updated pages. When I spoke to him recently he said he welcomes all new information. His mailing address is 80 East Street, Bristol VT 05443. His email address is
jbrbnk@wcvt.com
There is a small charge for the newsletter that is used to cover the cost of copies and postage. John has been a tremendous help to me in the past trying to connect my Canadian Burbanks to those in VT and NH.

Moses Burbank, son of Moses Burbank and Sarah Emery, born 4 Jan 1781 Boscowen, NH, married 7 Feb 1808 in VT, Rachel Garland, dau of George Garland and Hannah Bailey. The 1810 Census states that Wid. Rachel Burbank had 2 young sons. She was living with her brother-in-law Hazen Burbank and sister Hannah Garland in the Barnet/Ryegate area. She was not on the 1820 Cs as she had mar 2nd James Bailey. I am searching for the 2 small sons. I am trying to prove that my g-g-g-
grandfather, William Burbank, was one of them. He was born 25 July 1807 Barnet, VT. He married Sarah Drew, dau of Enoch, on 25 Dec 1830.

Marjorie Church Burbank of New York

I am writing a collective biography of the 169 librarians who headed neighborhood branch libraries of the New York Public Library (NYPL), 1901-1950.

On of them was Marjorie Church Burbank who was a graduate of the Rye Seminary, probably in 1912. She started work at NYPL in 1915, graduated from the NYPL Library School in 1917, was promoted to Branch Librarian in 1939, and served as the head of two branches until her retirement in 1954.

I know that Burbank was born in Niagara Falls NY but would like to determine her date of birth (probably 1894/95). I also believe that she died in 1989 but haven't been able to confirm that or to determine where she died. I would also be interested in any other biographical information that is available.

Thanks you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Who was Lucy Burbank? In "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson about serial killer Herman Mudgett, aka Howard H. Holmes, on p. 364 it says that in Holmes' office they (police) found a bank book belonging to a woman named Lucy Burbank. This leads to the conclusion that she was one of the many victims in Chicago during the 1890’s whom Mudgett killed.

Moses Burbank - Rachel Garland c 1808

Rachel Garland, d/o George Garland and Hannah Bailey Manchester of Barnet VT, mar 7 Feb 1808 Moses Burbank Jr., (1781-c 1810) in Peacham VT.(VT VR). In the "History of Barnet, Vermont", p 420, her husband is listed as James Burbank.

1. Is this Moses b 1781 Boscawen NH the s/o of Moses Burbank and Mary Danforth in Sedgeley's "Burbank Genealogy" p. 74-5? The father has been referred to as "Jr." in some sources, and as he was born in 1741, he doesn't seem a likely candidate. Rachel is listed as a wid. on the 1810 VT CS, with 2 young sons.
2. Can anyone give me evidence of Moses vs. James as her husband?
3. Does anyone know the names of the two sons?

I appreciate any help.
Ancestor for Lawrence Ansel Burbank

I am trying to find info. on an ancestor for a friend to prove his native lineage.
His father's name was Frank Eugene Burbank of Belmont N.H. He went by Eugene or Gene.
His Grandfather's name was Alonzo Burbank, apparently of Gilmanton, NH.
His Grandmother's name was Lucia A. Burbank. She is the one we are trying to find info. on.
She is said to be full-blooded native american, but the different census' has her down as white, black & mulatto.
One even listed Alonzo as black when he was white.
Her maiden name was apparently Dustin, and lived in Canterbury as a young child, but there is an age ?. According to census she was born about 1850, but there seems to be a 4 year difference between census. Could it be a different person.
Also, the oldest living brother said she went by the name of Laura. (If he remembers correctly.)
She then lived with a Smith family in Deerfield, if she's the same person.
Mr. Burbank would like to know why she is listed as black and not indian. He needs proof of blood line to receive his benefits as he is getting up in age.
If you could help us please email myself or his son, Kevin Gene Burbank at; kevingene@netzero.com

Thankyou

I am attempting to research William A. McNamara (b. abt. 1884). The birth certificate for his daughter Shirley Jacquelind McNamara (b. May 20, 1927 in Oil City, PA) give his place of birth as Pettis, PA. So far I have been unable to locate a Pettis, PA. Is it a city or a county name? William was married to Madge D Smith (b. abt 1899 in Diamond, PA); possibly in 1918. Shirley Jacquelind Smirth married Richard Malcolm Burbank (b. November 10, 1922; d. October 26, 1999). Any information would be greatly appreciated!

John Milton Burbank

I'm looking for the death date for John Milton Burbank b. 14 Mar. 1825 in Belgrade, ME. He was married to Melissa Maxwell Maxwell b. 17 Feb 1843. They had a daughter, Agatha Evelyn Burbank, b. 9 Nov. 1869 in Hagerstown, MD. I found references to John in the Hagerstown newspaper an Orphan's Court sale ad placed on April 28, 1875 with Melissa as administrator. Also, an annoucement from North American Life Insurance Co. stating they paid out $3500 by the death of John M. Burbank to Melissa Burbank and Lewis C. Smith Administrators May 12, 1875. Was this common for insurance companies or what? Does anyone have anymore information on this family?
Thanks for any help.
Evelyn

Can anyone help me with this mystery woman? She appears on 1855 NY census in Kingston, Ulster County. I believe this was a married name. She is said to have been born Vermont, probably 1790-1800, said to be a widow. May have been related to Oliver Hulbert or Almira Yarrington.

Burbank Family Histories

For all who are interested in Burbank family history, there are two substantial compilations in the collection of the LDS Family History Library which deal with decendents of John Burbank, who arrived in the New World in 1635, d. 1683, Rowley, MA:

1. George Burbank Sedgely, "Genealogy of the Burbank Family and the Families of Bray, Wellcome, Sedgley (Sedgeley) and Welch"; The Knowlton McLeary Company, Farmington, ME, 1926; microfilm #1036282, item 2.

2. Henry DeLore Burbank, "The Ancestors and Descendants, Lieut. Daniel Mary (Marks) Burbank, Williamstown, Massachusetts", published by the Daniel Mark Burbank Family Organization, 1983; microfilm No. 1697834, item 7.

The former deals largely with the line of descent from John's grandson Eleazer [through John's youngest son, Caleb]. The latter deals in general with, I believe, a line descended from John's eldest son, John, and focuses on a line that was converted to Mormonism by Joseph Smith.
