Myrtle Irene Firster Burchfield, 89,
of South Woods Assisted Living Center in Titusville, went home to be with her Lord at 2:55 am Sunday, February 1, 2009. Born July 2, 1919 in Oil City, she was a daughter of James and Zoe Ross Firster. Mrs. Burchfield graduated from Cranberry High School in 1937. Throughout her life, she had worked for 15 years for the Oil City School District as a cafeteria manager, and for many years was a homemaker. Mrs. Burchfield enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren, knitting, baking, and in her later years bowling and swimming with her husband. Over her life, she had been a member of the Oil City Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, the Oil City First Church of the Nazarene and the Erie First Church of the Nazarene. On July 8, 1941 she married William Thomas Burchfield. The couple had been married 67 years. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2008. Surviving are three children, daughter Judy Pellicci and her husband Tommaso of Farmingdale N.Y., daughter Darlene Havens of Oil City, and son William T. Burchfield, Jr. and his wife Janet of Girard; six grandchildren, Diana Minarczyk, Lisa Pellicci-Alvarez, David Havens, Tammy Moon, Benjamin Burchfield and Bethany Burchfield; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Sophie Scharff of Ashtabula Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Betty Firster of Oil City and Lillian Lindberg of Union City; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Firster, and four brothers, Earl, Frank, John and Henry Firster. Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 pm Wednesday with the Rev. William Hopkins, pastor of the Oil City First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Oil City First Church of the Nazarene, 601 E Second St, Oil City PA 16301. Erie Times-News on 2/3/2009,
