Thanks for the Post.

I also have the marriage document. I would like to have a copy of the tombstone picture if that would be possible.
Do you have a copy of the other B'field men that were married around the same time? If no, I have a copy. Do you happen to know how they are related? During this same time frame, there were two girls (other than Daughter of Meshack Sr.) that were married too. Do you happen to have any other info on Meshack Sr.?

Would you like any info on any other B'fields?
I have over 700 in my list. I only have those in my documentation list... that has Documentation.

Not all are connected to the same line. Or If they are, I do not have supporting data.

Meshack Burchfield

Meshack Burchfield born 1760 was not married to Sally Roan. This is a myth! Warren Co.,KY did not exist in 1785. Sally Roan was not an Indian. Over 100 people have this listed wrong on their public and private trees on ancestry as of Oct 2009.
Sally Roan married Meshack Burchfield Jr in 1825. The clerk spelled her name wrong! She is the daughter of John Rone and Rebecca Anderson. After Meshack Burchfield Jr died, Sally married Joseph Best Taylor. She is buried by her husband Meshack Burchfield Jr in the Old John Rone Cemetery in Warren Co., KY. I have their marriage document and their tombstone pictures.
Please encourage everyone to change their public and private trees. We do not want our descendants to copy false information. At this time, Meshack's Burchfield Sr wife is unknown. He may have married a Baker, Young, and there are also other surname possibilities. We have spent way too much time researching some Indian Myth! The moral of the story is Verify! Verify! Verify!

Louis and Emma Burchfield (Birchfield)

I'm researching my grandparents on my mothers side. My mother was Lorene Burchfield. Her parents, Louis and Emma Burchfield. Only information thus far is that they resided in Bangs Tx in 1900's. Their children were Margaret,Lorene,JM and Sline.

The known residence of Emma Birchfield was in the San Francisco Cal area, I believe Modesto, Cal. Her daughter Margaret also resided in that area in the 1980's. My mother Lorene Burchfield Green resided and died in Midland, Tx.

Also would like to validate that this line has a great amount of Cherokee in us as told to me by Ella.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Blessings.

Sue You may contact me at journey09@live.com

I think this may be my grandmother Emma and grandfather Louis Burchfield I am researcing. Only residence I have is census in Bangs, Texas. I do know that my mother Lorene Burchfield met my father ben johnson in Artesia New Mexico in 1944. She was married at the time to a man named Selman and had a child Rocky Selmon who lived in Rockwell, NM.

My Emma Burchfield lived in Modesto Cal in the 1980's and may have remarried after Louis. The one time I visited with her she told me that we had about 1/4 cherokee blood in us. Any information on that possibility? Perhaps we would benefit from searching as Native Americans?

My Emma Burchfields children were Margaret, Lorene, JM and Sline.

The last contact I had with her she was living in the San Francisco Cal area I think Modesto.

Can we connect as being family?

Thanks! Many Blessings

Sue

You are welcome Jim.

Be sure to always look for the other spellings too.
I'm sure you already know that. But in the event someone passes by this inquiry, Look for:

Burchfield
Birchfield
Berchfield
Berghestfield
Birchfiel
Burchfiel

I know there was another... but I can't think of it now.
The Berghestfield, I just stumbled on today.

If you should find out who his dad was, please let us know. I know that everytime I google search for more b'fields, Stuff on Charles comes up. He is all over the internet.
Just a thought. If you should make it to OH or you find a long lost cousin there that doesn't mind making a trip to the court house. Be sure to look at land deeds and see if Alice actually owned the property, It may give you a clue of how she acquired it. (Death of spouse? Given by family?)
Also, be sure to look at Wills and Probate. I found two names that were not known that way.

Happy Hunting.
Veva

Vava,

THANKS for all the great census work that you did on the American artist, Charles E. Burchfield.

I'm interested entirely in his ancestry as to whether it is German [as is my Burchfield (Bortsfeld) line], or English. I do wish we had his father's name so that we could take his ancestry back a few more generations using the census records.

Jim

Does any reader have any information on the paternal ancestry of Charles E. Burchfield, a very well-known American artist, born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, in 1893? He is listed with his mother, Alice, in Salem, Ohio (on the border of Mahoning and Columbiana counties of Ohio) in the 1900 census, but I've not been able to find any information online on his Burchfield ancestry. Is he of English or of German descent, etc.?

Lisa,

I do not have any further information but I believe that I have answered my own question. The Joe Burchfield that was married to Mary Dotson would have been born about 1880s and the Joe Burchfield that was the son of Woodrow Burchfield was probably born about 1930s.

Thanks any way.

Lisa Frederick-Hughes

I have 13 John Bi(u)rchfields.
If you have other names that could be related, let me know and I'll look for them.

I have over 569 people in my Bi(u)rchifield Database.
Most are from WV and NC. I do have quite a few from TN.
There are other states too.

All of these folks I have found from Census records, Births, Deaths and Marriages. I have documents or links for all.

I am trying to Link as many as I can. I have a brick wall that I just can't bust down.

What else can you tell us?
Kind Regards,
Veva

Dear JMFreed,
I am assuming you have tried to "Google" this person.
I found a new website (at least it is new to me) That may have some info for you: http://www.questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&d=102486657

Unfortunately, it lets you see two pages then you have to become a member. You may be able to get a trial time on it and get some info. What sources have you researched so far.
That way we don't duplicate.

1900 Census 214 East Fourth STreet.

I found him on the 1910 Census Perry Township in Columbiana OH Mother born in OHIO and Father born in PA.
Residing at 214 East fourth STreet.

1920 Census, still living at the same place. Appears to have started working as a Sheet metal company accountant
Siblings: John, Frances (female), Louise N, Fred B.

Unfortunately, I can't see all of the 1930 census yet.

If you have access to a local library that has a genealogy section, you may be able to access Heritage quest for free.
That is what I use to get my census records.

Since we do not know his fathers name yet, not sure of the descent. Bi(u)rchfields have been in this country since 1700's. My family appears to have started in Maryland. Some went to PA and the rest to NC. Then they traveled all around. (OH, MO, KY, VA, WV, NC, TN)

Let me know if this helps at all. If you have more questions, let me know that too, I'll try all my resources.
I have over 700 names linked to Bi(u)rchfields in my Database.
Sounds to me like this may call for a "Road Trip!" to OHIO.
Happy Hunting.
Veva

are you the same person who several years ago was looking for a copy of the Hortense Abbott Triplett book? In case you were never successful, I believe there is a copy of both of her books (she did write two on the Tripletts, one an early less complete one, and then later a more complete edition) at the Columbia, Adair Co. KY library. Hope this is helpful.
