Documents retrieved by Dorothy Burda (daughter of John Burda*) in 1982 from Wisnicze, Poland (Catholic Church records), verify that the Burda’s lived in Radun, a small community near the town of Wisnicze in Prussian Silesia, Poland). All above information was documented by Dorothy Burda in 1982.

Dorothy Burda was my mother's sister. My name is Kay Hennig Stansberry. My mother was Marie Burda Hennig; married to Theodore Hennig, both born in Yorktown, TX (we lived in Bay City, TX).

My Father was Albert Louis Burda born 1919. My Grandfather was Jerry Burda (his name may have been Gerald but never used for the
census)he was born in 1898. His brothers were Jessie, Lambert and Louis. He also had sisters, but I don't know their names. Jerry was the youngest. I know they came from Nebraska, then moved to MN. The Mower County census 1920 shows them. The only story I've been told is that their father raised race horses. He was shot by the local priest for not selling him his prize winning horse. His wife died shortly after. The girls married and ended up in Mandan, SD. The boys went to MN and raised my G.F. Jerry. He married Bessie and they only had 1 son, my father Albert. He died when he was 53 yrs. old, around 1971.

If you suspect that he came thru Baltimore than locate his manifest. At the same time, take a look in Ellis Island website. www.ellisislandrecords.org
If your ancestor had social security numbers http://ssdi.rootsweb.com than you can request his SS-5Form which would have a place of birth. If he was naturalized citizen than those forms would have information. If he was not but lived pass 1940 than he would fill out an Alien Registration Form.

Descendant of Frank Burda from Brzotice, Bohemia

I'm looking for any descendant of a Frank Burda that immigrated from Brzotice, Bohemia.

We have a Frank (Krupicka) who changed his name and I suspect he changed it to his mother's name, Burda. I found a family in Chicago that was the closest fit to the profile but with some discrepancies.
This family had a wife named, Antonia and by 1920 they had 2 children: George and Anna and they lived on Winfield in Berwyn, IL. I can't find my copy of the obituary at this moment!

I would like to get any Male descendant of this Frank, if any are still alive, to join my Krupicka dna project to see if we are related. Please go to this link to find out more. Burda/ Hanus

My gr-grandfather was on the ship "America" with an ALOIS
BURDA". They emigrated from Bavaria, Germany; leaving from Bremen to Baltimore arriving October 18, 1887. went on to settle in Belmont County, Ohio. My gg was John Hanus.
The next available census is 1900, but I could not find Alois or Louis Burda anywhere. My thought is he could have been a brother-in-law to J. Hanus, but I don't know that for sure.
While they came from Germany, I know my gg was Bohemian.

Hi Betty. Sorry it took me such a long time to reply. In the past couple of years I have tried to do some research. The only thing I found is that my great grandfather was Richard Hamisch. He was born in 1896 in Schaudau, Germany and resided in Pirna. He immigrated to the United States (later Iowa) sometime after 1925. I thought that his father was named Johann but I have yet to have that confirmed. I am sorry I do not have much information on this. My whole Hamisch side is very incomplete. -Anneliesa

I am looking for any descendant of Frantisek "Frank" BURDA who also may have been Frank KRUPICKA, Jr. His father was my gf Frantisek "Frank" Krupicka and his mother was Barbora Burda and he was born in Brzotice, Bohemia Nov 1885. I found a Draft Registration Card stating Frank Burda was born in Brzotice with the same birthdate so I'd like to communicate with any descendants about him. His obituary states he died in 1944.

There is a Burda connection in my family. My Grandfather Martin (Marcin) Godlewski had a daughter Anna who married Franciszek Burda and they lived in Chicago. Don't know when they were married but they are listed in his obit in 1934. There is a Franciszek Burda who died in 1963 but lists his wife's name as Zofia Jurek so they may have divorced. There is a Anna Burda buried in Resurrection Cemetery in Chicago but I don't know when she died.

Hi, Martin(Marcin) Godlewski, my grandfather, had a daughter, anna, who married Franciszek Burda. They were married at the time Martin died in 1934 in Chicago, IL. That is all I know. Don't know about children.

My wife's gggf had the name Matej (Mathias) "Mike" Burda. He lived in Saline County Nebraska after immigrating from Bohemia. I am not sure of his date of entry, but I would interested in seeing what other information you have. I think the man I am writing about might have been too young to have sons in the 1860's, since I have his birth date in 1850 and marrying Anna Sipal in 1876. Send me some more information so I could confirm/deny the relation. Thanks.

I am very interested to know if you have any more information on your Johann Hamisch. My John Hanus was listed under this name on the passenger list and he was living in eastern Germany when he emigrated. The family was in Munich, but not the large city we know, but a village with that name located (I think) in the area of Passau. Can you tell me more. Who was the wife of your JOhann?? I don't know my gr-grandmother's name, but she would have died in 1887. they had children named Franz, Wenzl and Albina.

Marion Burda born 10 Aug 1908 died 21 Feb 1937 married Mary Wachel born 7 Nov 1912 died 14 Dec 1996 before 1936. They had one daughter Helen Marie Burda, born 5 Jul 1936. Mary Wachel was my Dad - Paul Felix Wachel's sister.

I'd like to talk to you further on this. The spelling on the first name indicates the pronuncation of Czech but not normally the way name is spelled. c is pronounced like ts in cats.
When looking for information in Chicago, I didn't think to have that spelling of the name looked up.

I'm still looking for descendants of my Dad's half brother. I'm still thinking he used the name Frank Burda (his mother's last name) instead of Krupicka...his father's last name.

I recently found a WW Draft Registration and except for the year of birth being off by a year, I'm pretty positive this may be the Frank I'm looking for descendants on.

I can't quite read the street he lived on 2235 ? in Berwyn. He stated he was born in Brzotice, Bohemia (a small place that I have visited). He said he was born 15 Nov 1886 (church records record him as born 23 Nov 1885). He said he was a Machinist. It looks something like employer name Wm. Loomis in Chicago. He was married and had children. He registered in Precinct 2 of Berwyn. He was Medium Height, Slender build, brown eyes and Dark brown hair.

This copy if very hard to read.

My great-grandmother was Maria BREBURDA, born in Bohemia, so far as I know, about 1851. She came to the U. S. in 1874, married Joseph Shima/Sima, settled in the Chicago area. I am wondering if this name has any connection with the Burda surname at all. Thank you for any information.

My maternal grand parents were Jozef Burda born 2- 1867 in Zolynia, Poland, and Maria Falandysz born 12- 1879 in Kopanie, which is a few miles from Zolynia (in Rzeszow Province). Maria's mother was named Katarzyna Burda. I have "Burda" on both sides of my maternal tree. I have gone to Zolynia 4 times and have also researched those names at the church in Przemsyl at that central church.

My mother was born in Mt Pleasant, Pa.

A researcher in Pittsburgh is also researching the name Burda, as both of her grand parents were named Burda. They also came from in, or near Zolynia. (I believe we are related).

My gr grandfather came over from Poland abt 1913 b abt 1887ish to marry Mary Borkowicz b 12/15/1892 f Ignatz/Ignacz Borkowicz m Julianna (1st wife). Joseph came directly to Milwaukee WI due to arranged marriage. He worked for the railroad briefly at that time. They had Edwin/Edward/Irwin b 1914, Alice b 10/23/1915 & Harry b abt 1917? I think J Burda came through Baltimore but I'm not sure and know nothing of family/siblings etc of Joseph Burda. Can anyone help? I know he died before 1970. I was born 1967 and he was already gone.

Do you know if your Joseph Burda had a sister Albie or Albina who married a Slad? Albie was born 1883 in Bohemia and her father was Joseph who lived in Straziste, Czech and was a shoemaker. He was born 1855 in Ounuz and died in 1918 in Straziste as told by a distant relative who is a family historian still living over in Czech. Albina Burda had brothers Francis, Stanley, Emil and Joseph (said to have become a priest) and sister Mary who married a Burger. All lived in Chicago around turn of the century.

Is there anyone related to an ALOIS BURDA (probably changed to Louis after he came) who emigrated on the ship "America" arriving in Baltimore on October 18, 1887? He went to Belmont County Ohio.
I can't find him on the census after that so maybe he moved on to another place. Thank you.

My great-grandmother, Katazyna Kilian Janik was born in Zolynia, Poland on June 10, 1858. Her mother's maiden name was Maria Burda. Katazyna settled in Scranton, PA in 1897. She died in 1941. I don't know anything about any siblings.
Do you think she and your grandfather were cousins?

I have an obit for my Grandfather Martin (Marcin) Godlewski and he lists Franciszek Burda as brother in law married to his sister Anna (Godlewski) Burda. The lived on the south side of Chicago (stockyards) at least till 1934 as that is when Martin died. Anyone have any other info that might help??

Both of my mother's grandmothers were named Burda. They were from the province of Rzeszow in the southeast corner of Poland. (It is like "Smith" in that area". I am trying to see if they were related) How did your ancestors get up to Slupsk, way up near the Baltic sea? I have been to Leba which is near there.

Burda is a Polish word meaning "spat, squabble", a perfect discription of my mother's side of our family.
My mother's mother and father both had "mothers" named Burda. Katarzyna Burda, and Maria Burda. They were born in the 1840's in Rzeszow province, Poland. "Burda" is like "Smith" in that area. I believe that some immigrated to the Checz Republic, and the ones in Germany came through the Checz Repbblic and stopped in Vienna and went on to Germany. BURDA is NOT a Germanic name or word.
