Isabella Burdette Reaves - not yet proven

This may take me a awhile to get my facts and theories "out there" for you Burdett/Burdette researchers to hopefully be able to confirm/disprove what I think is my new connection to this family.

I randomly picked one of my ancestors to search on ancestry.com yesterday - John Seats b. abt. 1835 Georgia d. prob. bef. 1880. Earlier research had confirmed that he and his wife, Frances, were the parents of my gg grandmother, Georgia Ann(a) Seats (md Archibald Marion Preston). I had found John & Frances, newly married, in the 1860 Chambers Co., AL census, not yet located in 1870, and then in 1880 Chambers Co., AL, I found Frances and her daughter Georgia A (incorrectly written "George A") Seats (female), living with the Daniel & Nancy Coggins family and Frances is identified as "niece" and "George" as daughter. This latter census record puzzled me greatly for years until yesterday and today I found some things that make me believe that Mrs. Nancy Coggins was a BURDETT and was the aunt of Frances.

Yesterday, I found on ancestry in the Alabama marriages database this entry: John G. Seats and Frances Isabella Jane Reaves on 2 Jun 1859 in Chambers Co., AL. So I went "hunting" on Reaves/Reeves and found that Frances' parents were Samuel Jesse Reeves and Isabella BURDETT.

I decided to hunt a little more on Daniel Coggins and found that in the 1860 Chambers Co., AL census, his household is right next door to that of Jesse Reeves and his wife, Isabella. A little more digging turned up info that Daniel Coggins' wife was Nancy BURDETT. If Nancy and Isabella were sisters, then the 1880 Chambers Co., AL census listing for F I Seats as the "niece" would be correct.

Does anyone know if my theory is correct??? Are Nancy & Isabella sisters? Or some other relation? And if they are sisters, who were their parents? Were they Humphrey & Isabella Davis BURDETT?

I thank you in advance for any assistance! I have posted on Reeves & Reaves to try and pick up that trail.

My great grandmother, Pauline, in an interview in 1985 with me said that her mother, Georgia Ann(a), was adopted by Rev. "Bud" Preston and his wife. She didn't know Georgia's birth last name. Georgia married Archibald Marion Preston, Bud's nephew, in Clay County, AL on 19 Oct 1897, and the marriage record lists her as "Georgia A. Seats." Her death certificate from the State of Alabama says she died 1 Nov 1918 in Blount Co., AL and her father's name is shown as "Seats" and mother unknown.

I do not know what happened to John G. Seats and do not know if Frances had any other children than Georgia.

I can completely fill in any info on Preston and have some additional on Seats, should anyone be interested.

Thanks again and I'm hoping to find some new cousins out there!

Allison M. Saxman - alisax@commspeed.net
Hopefully it will be done when I return this june, so I can get some good photo's.
I was only able to find the cemetery with the help of Charlotte, Gracie, Pat and Pauline.

Hey!

Glad to share any information you may need if I have it for you. I have not gotten past Richard Hamilton Burdette myself, but must admit have put this project on the back burner for awhile due to family obligations. Let me know what you need and I would be glad to try and fill in the holes for you. Have a great day!

Brenda Sue

William Burdett/e family

I am looking for my great grandmother's paternal family. She doesn't know much about them. Here is what I have so far.

William Burdett/e married Dennie or Dinnie.
Their first son, James Edward was born in 1891. He is my great grandmother's father.
They had two more children, Henry and William "Willie" before William died. I found a 1910 census indicating that Dennie had remarried. She married Andrew Wilson and they had three children; Andrew, Mary and Mattie.
Dennie's husband Andrew Wilson died so she remarried a man with the last name Hargrove. I believe his name might have been Douglas. They didn't have any children. I found a census which lists them both as divorced. I assume Dennie divorced her third husband. I have not been able to find any further information on this family. My great grandmother is from Tennessee, Nashville and Franklin areas. I did not know my great-great grandfather had siblings before I started searching. If anyone recognizes any of this information, please contact me.

I am looking for info on Laurel Paul (my grandfather), Roy Ryce (my great grandfather),or Payton (my great great grandfather) Burdette. I know that Laurel died in 1991 in Indiana and that Roy died in 1965 in Indiana - I'm not sure about Payton. Laurel was married to Martha Ellen Robinson. Roy was married to Madeline Cooper and Goldie Odessie/Odessa. Madeline was Laurel's and his sister Thelma's mom (she passed away) and Goldie was mother to a daughter named Joanne. I know that there was more children of Roy's, but I just don't know for sure who they are. Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

He married first to Nellie Bell Hanson. He next m Lily Malone. Lily b 1889, d 1968. Issue of William C. Burdett and Lily:
Charles, b 1919; Otha Clarston, b 1923, d 1947; Juanita, b 1926, married MORRIS(?). Locations not known. (p. 256)

William Burdett, Jr. (William, John, John, John, Burdett) b 1800 in Monroe, VA, d May 7, 1861, Kanawha, WV. He m Sarah Ann Young, Jan. 13, 1824 in Kanawha, VA. She dau. of Charles Young and Sarah MORRIS (?). Sarah b 1804 in VA, d 1890 in WV. Issue: Miles; Charles; Sarah E.; Caroline; Willis; William H.; Harriet; Luther R. (p. 99)

Further: "That John Burdett, Sr., was the father of William Burdett, Sr., of Monroe County, (West) Virginia ... is supported by the obituary of a grandson of William Burdett, Sr., (named) James Robinson Burdett. That obituary, kpublished March 12, 1909, in the Herald-Dispatch, Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia, says in part, 'J.R. Burdette died of pneumonia at Ona, Cabell County, March 9, 1909, ... J.R. Burdette was the son of Alexander and Mary L. (HILL) Burdette. Several generations of his ancestors had been residents of Monroe and Greenbrier counties." (p. 20)

These inclusions were the only ones in Howard's book which mentioned the surname MORRIS.

Without additional data, I cannot further assist your effort. Howard Burdett listed his address as: 3831 N. US 23, Oscoda, MI 48750

His research was careful and documented where documents were available. It traces the Burdette, Burditt, Burdett, et.al., lineages in the United States from their earliest arrival. You ought contact him directly for further information. He may yet have books for sale.

Good luck.
